- Today marks the 15th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Nearly 3,000 people died that day at Ground Zero in New York City, where the Twin Towers collapsed. In the days that followed, Martha Teichner logged several reports from the area. She recently returned to lower Manhattan to visit the memorial built there, the people who return to commemorate lives lost, and the rebirth of a site that is hallowed ground.

The Fountain is beautiful.
Glad they built it.
I love how the water keeps the shape of the towers columns
ScootsNB
Sadly the same water on the fountain is the water that partly caused the towers to explode...
Berniksus how come?
Defosaur It's pure chemistry; the aluminium the plane is mostly made out of upon the crash melts down to the point where it's as liquid as liquid water, in whose contact it reacts explosively. I won't explain it as good as there's some videos on RUclips that will do it along with some visual animations so you would probably understand better
Years to build,seconds to fall..
56 minutes to an hour actually
Yes it took them that long before they fell, but when they did fall it took seconds to Fall

I went to see the fountain- it immediately brought me to tears. It's a powerful way to remember the horrific things that happened on that September day.
The water fall became the winning design as a respectful 9/11 memorial, offering calm and reflection where the original twin towers once stood until the fateful day of September 11, 2001.

I was only 13 years old when the attacks happened but I remember that day. I was leaving for school in the afternoon when I saw the news coverage on TV. I didn't really understand the magnitude of what had happened on that morning at the time. I only came to realize it a few years later as I aged and matured. Though I live in Brazil and I don't know anyone who was there on that day or anything of the sort, I often find myself watching stuff about 9/11 every once in a while and I always find myself moved, often almost crying. It's interesting how just hearing about someone else's suffering can trigger some emotions in some of us. I hope to one day be able to visit the memorial and pay my respects in person instead of just seeing it all through a computer screen.
To all the people who lost their lives that day, from the passengers to the workers, to the brave firefighters, policemen and other members of the emergency services who gave their lives to save others, for those people and their families who had a huge chunk of their own lives so brutally and cowardly taken away from them, to all of them I send out my good wishes. I was 13 years old as well when I saw this on TV. But it had somewhat different vibe for me, as my country has been bombed by USA and other "brave" NATO countries, few years prior, when I was 11 years old. We had burning tower just like this in the center of Belgrade.
Keep in mind that USA is the only country that dropped nuclear bomb on the whole city full of civilians. Twice.
But as our teacher in our school explained us at the time, all the people that died in the 9/11 attack were innocent and did not deserve that.
Hope USA has good teachers to teach their youth to consider why USA deserved to be attacked...

@7:35 the ghostly nod. So genius. Art is an amazing way of expressing grief and memories.
Regardless of weather the planes brought down the buildings, or that it was an inside job people died. Americans. Patriots. Your average joes. There was sons, daughters, mothers, fathers. All of them, someone's child that was each raised to change the world in their own way, and mercilessly had their life taken. We don't remember September 11th because of who was responsible, we hold ceremony to remember those who were lost, and that we as a country are stronger together.

IKR? I don't live anywhere near there, so I can't see it myself, but that was the first thought I had when I saw it..... Maybe you cna call 911, and firefighters will pull you out, the water seems fairly shallow, but I don't know how no one thought about that.
Matthew you'd have to call either the fire department to get them out. They have ways or getting people who are stuck out of where they are. The sky tower at sea world? If you got stuck up top in the cabin, you'd be brought down in a bucket.
Matthew sad the wtc only stoos for about. 31 years two great American towers reduced to rubble even sadder to lose 3000 souls on the site

Janek Sienki 2018
Even tho im half greek, i might break down in tears... RIP to those who passed in the 9/11 attacks..
I feel like the water fall sound just resembles peace and comfort.
It’s sad all those people that died there. Hope their souls find peace.
I'm thousands of miles away and my eyes are watering while watching this.
I'm watching this in 2020 and it is still bringing me pain of sadness to all who died in the World trade center, the pentagon and everyone on each airplane
😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞🌹 r.i.p heros
Sergio Torres Next time if you’re trying to be serious about something don’t use emojis it’s unprofessional and imo disrespectful.
@@luislara1564 ^ stop making an issue out of little things. At least he did not make fun of 9/11 or something. He's just paying respect and tribute. While your trying to be problematic
@@luislara1564 i always use emojis too so wats wrong with that?
Almost been 19 years. Can't believe how fast time fly's. I was 12 years old and had no idea what had happened until I got to school and our teacher said "America was attacked today." We listened to the radio the entire school day. I'll never forget that moment.
I still feel the pain for all the victims. 😭😭😭😭
