I had 2 AV-30s installed in my PA-28. I linked a Garmin 396 to the unit configured as a DG. I was able to have the vacuum system removed. Bottom line: I love them!
TO be primary you need two of them. They recommend three. So you have a spare to switch in , in case you lose one. This system is not cost effective, they cost about 2200-2600 each retail. SO unless they were 1K each. You can beat this setup in price and functionality all day long. A single E5 is less than half what 2 AV30s cost, and does both in single unit. Also very important. These units do NOT interface to a GPS as they suggest. They are a GPS mini MFD ONLY. there is no capability to act as a Waypoint or NAV steering unit on the DG with any GPD pr Nav com. the units do NOT OUTPUT any signals to the GPS or CDI. The DG is really nothing more than a digital compass. He may have started out trying to be a cost effective solution. But he didnt end up there. He is way over priced and under capable.

Will my AV30C connect with Garmin GDL52 without the AV Link?
