If automatically activates traits our just display. And if you're talking about how to activate them like use them just click your screen after you hold it.
You can only have one trait at a time. When you do meguna raid and get the demonic usurpation it's a item drop, which you can use to get the demonic usurpation trait. It won't automatically replace your current trait and no you can't store it
