I heard the Kid A version immediately after the album was released so this is the one the hits home for me. Love the dynamic between you both, a really in depth discussion by enthusiasts. Keep it up...!
I remember a similar debate happening about Videotape. Everyone had been listening to the early live version of Videotape from Bonnaroo for about a year and absolutely loving it. Then when the studio version was released on In Rainbows, a lot of people were saying they'd screwed it up. It was too weird for them. I have to say I love them both equally. Same with MPS - I think all the versions are beautiful and I'm very happy with the Kid A version. Anyway, really enjoying these Radiohead chats guys...best of luck with your channel!
Funny - I went and listened to a boot I have of "Videotape" from Boston in 2006, and it has a lot more going on, whereas the album version sounds very minimalist. In this case, I like the album version better, probably because I didn't listen to the bootleg version a lot prior to the album's release. Reverse scenario of MPS for me.
I was initially shocked when I heard the difference between the familiar (Rockville) and final (Kid A Studio) recordings. After having learned it on guitar and hearing a harp? Come on! But Kid A is a testament to a band taking the familiar and creating beauty with unfamiliar. A stripped down, acoustic version wouldn't fit, nor would piano, no matter how awesome those arrangements are. Over time, I came to really love the Kid A one, it's one of my favorite album closers of all time. Maybe some day I'll come around on Videotape too...
I saw Thom play the 1st version live on the OKC tour and it ruined the album version for me. I like all of the ones you played in this video better. And although it was my least favorite, the last piano version is the only one I could see fitting on KidA. But that 2nd version was pretty amazing
I hadn't heard the version 2 before, it sounds great. I first heard the song on Kid A and liked it a lot. I found an acoustic version, similar to your version 1, that is my favourite: ruclips.net/video/4t-kKueTgFI/видео.html

I always loved the original bootleg mp3 from Napster back in the day too! It’s taken a while to get used to the Kid A version
TWAS A BEAUTY
Enjoyed the comparisons
Awesome!
piano version for me. thats one of the best vocals he's ever done, imo, with how tender it is and how beautiful the falsetto switches are
it is a beautiful vocal - reminds me of how i made my millions
Woah, talk about deep-cuts. Dad is clearly a super-fan.
Indeed - a "Head-head" as we say around these parts!
Damn, I wished I had a relation with my dad like u guys have it
Thanks for commenting, friend!

Thanks for sharing! Love this song. My comrade hopes you'll come around very soon on "Videotape"...it's his favorite closer!
The second one sounded like what MPS would've been if it were on ok computer
It was from the OKC-era Minidiscs, so that makes sense.

Yeah, hearing the old versions first did the same to me!

That's GREAT, thank you for sharing it! Is Jonny accompanying? Sounds like some arpeggio guitar work in there...
Yes, Jonny accompanying.
KID A VERSION IS BETTER
1 vote for the studio version!
