I would argue that single dose only would scare away the kinda coffee drinker that has money but doesn't wanna dive into a new hobby But having the option or offering both a 250g hopper and a single dose with bellows would be great
YESS!!! Been waiting for you to review this. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this review. I used to use a whole entry-level prosumer setup (Profitec Pro 300, Baratza Sette 370, distributor/leveler/spring-loaded tamper) but over the years I realized I just want a simple, quick machine that outputs decent stuff for milk-based drinks. No one else is innovating like Breville is in this space.
We need this machine without the grinder built in. In many ways its the perfect machine for coffee enthusiasts. Fast heat up time. Thermal stability and control. What more can you ask for? Maybe profiling :D.
Fully agreed. I have a Breville Barista Pro in large part because of the 3 second start up. I had a Baratza grinder when I bought it and a DF83V now The built in grinder is great for showing people how much of a difference a high end grinder makes vs the built in grinder, but that’s about it. Give me a high end 54mm Breville with a 3 second start up and great control and no grinder built in and I might consider upgrading my machine.
Espresso machine/grinder combos shouldn’t extend to this price point …or at least there should be a grinder-less option. A lot of the consumers at this price point are informed and would prefer to optimize their setups to their tastes.
I couldn’t believe my eyes!!! Delta Chavena?! I honestly thought: he’s not gonna drink it, he’s going to use it to season the burs! 😂That was real courage man! The things you do for us!!! 😆😆😆… Keep it up!
I know what Lance is doing with Breville. No-grinder, lever machine with thermojet. I assume 58mm cause of market demand, but Lance loves smaller portafilters, so maybe 54.
Looks like the machine for those of us that like to play with different parameters (even if they are buried in the OS) and a spouse who just wants to push a button and get a good cup.
I'm really hoping they decide to give us an "advanced/pro" menu in the settings to alter a bit more stuff. I like machines like this because, to be honest, I don't always want to play with all the toys every time I want an espresso or latte. But there are times I want to fiddle around a bit more.
Another great review! Thank you for this. I've been very curious about this unit. Last year, I bought the Touch Impress after watching your review and deciding to jump into the espresso market. I've learned a lot since and have come to really appreciate the machine. My latte art has also gotten pretty good! So, when I saw this come out not even a full year later, I was very curious and sad haha!
@@LanceHedrick I think I've decided. I have a Breville Touch Impress - I'm going to buy a Eureka Oro tomorrow. I'll get more out of my coffee, and it'll be softer to upgrade to a machine without an integrated grinder later, since I will already have the grinder. Thanks!
I have the Barista Impress Touch (seems pretty much equivalent except for the auto tamp and admittedly slow touch screen). It's been AMAZING. I would personally prefer a bit more manual control, but the fact that my wife, friends, mom, dad...etc. can come over and make *me* a perfect latte on my machine when they have no idea how to pull a shot is totally worth it.

Still waiting for someone, who can make a machine with subscription for coffee beans and factory alignment. For example, you order a machine like this, with grinder and WiFi. You get a certain blend, scan QR code on the bag with an app and your machine sets the correct grind size, dose, temp and ratio, which Lance determined for that exact batch of coffee. And then the machine goes slightly finer as beans aging. What a wonderful world that would be! Even my wife would become a real home barista!
Look at the Meraki, that's kinda what they're going for. Personally, I'm not sure about them because of how new they are, and I'm also not that keen of every bag of coffee having an RFID tag in it from an e-waste perspective.

@@fuzziestlumpkin Yep, I saw Meraki review from Tom and based on features that machine is insane value. Rotary pump, dual boiler, scales, grinder, PIDs, NFC reader... but scales were not that precise, almost 1.5g margin, the grinder was not calibrated well, etc., but if they nail that idea down and it will be really working, it will be amazing! Regarding tags as an e-waste. I think that is not a big problem, as the tag itself has less metals, than a metal wire holding the bag closed that some roasters use.
Thanks, Lance a good review with a lot of rapid fire info. The price point is a bit of a nosebleed given the target audience. I’ll keep my veteran BDB and Baratza Sette for now. Wish it dosed by weight.
I own the Oracle Touch and have been enjoying it since 2017. My issue with Breville is that they make it difficult to order and replace parts. After my machine dies, I will likely switch to Bezzera, ECM, or Profitec. Luckily I have been able to persuade Breville to sell me parts, but it is like pulling teeth. Inside the machines is like working on a newer BMW turbo v8 engine. Everything is crammed into the space and it is a pain to replace parts. What would be ideal is for Breville to make another machine that has more room inside; get rid of the cr@ppy grinder and spread out the rest of the components. Just my two cents.
My $3000 Breville Oracle died, and their support.. they offered a 10% discount if I ordered a new. That's it, just "too bad, wanna buy a new?". Never buying from that brand again.
Yeah the lack of repairability and parts is awful. I wonder how many almost working machines have ended up in landfill all because they won't sell a cheap part but would rather sell you a new machine. I have ended up with a parts machine that someone gave me because they couldn't find parts to repair it.
31:40 The water spout in all machines from Breville are like this, it's such a pain in the ass when I need to use mine, that I've converted to first dispensing water into an empty cup then pour it into my coffee...
I went from the Rancilio Silva to a E61 HX machine... I'll be honest, steaming and brewing simultaneously is still a novelty for me. If I had a ridiculous haircut, I'd both feel and look like a pro barista. 😅
I do love the concept of this machine! I would much prefer this over a superauto where you cant see the dirt piling up in the brew chamber. Espresso and Milk should be far better then for example a Jura at the same pricepoint. This is not for me, but i do see the value.
Loved the video, you offer a great combo of info and entertainment. I think these Breville combo machines are a brilliant idea, and they are improving on the implementation. We suffered too long with a $$$ Oracle that demonstrated the brilliant UX, etc. but offered a crappy grinder (brilliant auto-tamper though!), lame milk system that refused to work even after multiple repairs, and several trips to the repair shop. Breville Customer Support was very good to us, I have to say. However, there'll be no more Breville products in our house. We really need them to last more than 2 years. Bought a Profitec (for me) and a superautomatic for her. Can't help but think that this price point is all wrong. You've priced this near the point of a Jura E8 super-automatic? Who is this for?
That’s expensive but I want something I can use quickly. I bought one that’s manual and I never use it bc I couldn’t dial in. I’ll wait for yours to come out lol.
For 2k you can a decent grinder plus a PID single boiler/thermo block (Timemore plus Ascaso dream) , Would that be a more complicated set up? I think it would a lot simpler and will give you more flexibility.
Hi Lance can you do a video on best long term solution for what water to use for long term health of espresso machines? I'm thinking filtered water and Third Wave coffee tabs but want to know if there is something easier like a Brita or something but which one?
I can't use lever machines anymore so im in the market for something that can be ready without delay in the AM. I have a good grinder already so i think i'll grab a used duo-temp pro or bambino until the stars align on thermo-jet-like brewers
I've not seen that to be the case but I've had my doubts. That being said, I couldn't imaginr these companies like tone and manument would implement them if that was a fear.
If it does scale up, I'd much rather descale one of these than a dual boiler. I would hope there super expensive filters would take care of the calcium carbonate though... Personally I also use a Brita undersink filter for tap water, but I admit I use both because I'm ignorant of whether just the Brita is enough and I can forego the Sage one.
I want to upgrade to one of these from my flair signature but I already have a pretty good grinder and don’t want to buy a machine that has one built in. They need decoupled models
Haven't stuck a thermometer into the cup, but it's a lot hotter than previous Sage/Breville thermojet machines. I'm guessing 85c... it hurts my little mouth if I try to drink it right awyay, which was not the case with the Touch Impress.
Because they engineer their products so that only they can repair them (from experience), I will never buy another Breville product. While I'd love the near instant "oracle jet" technology in my Gaggiuino, I'd expect to find this Breville machine in a landfill, a few days after the warranty expires.
I have many questions regarding engineering choices as well as overall design but what I'd really love to know is the customer research process, or whatever they call it at breville. Who even is a target for that machine? What's the gap in the market this machine could fill?
I have family that definitely fall into this market category. They easily have the budget for this or more, but they just don't have interest in going down the espresso rabbit hole. They just want good espresso they don't have to fuss over, especially when they're working from home. I believe one of them actually has this machine, and it's great for guests, too -- it's pretty user friendly, so guests can just walk up to it and serve themselves as long as there's beans in the hopper.
I wonder why they think that machines for „normal people“ do have to look super ugly and cheap even if they cost 2000$. Even the items on the screen look not nice 😅.
Hmmmm... The question is, does 2k justify this machine when the Ninja is a quarter of the price. Does this produce a 4x better espresso? You mentioned this is for those who want an easy way of making an espresso but it seems quite complicated.
Great video 💪 We definitely have different tastes in espresso. I think body is very important… yeah Crema by itself isn’t that tasty but the espresso needs it. It balances the flavour out and gives the espresso its texture and mouthfeel. If I want to drink some flat clean hot coffee I drink filter(pour over).
Lance, have you found a meaningful difference with preheating a plastic aeropress? I'm wondering what your thoughts about its thermal retention is and if it's worth spending the time to preheat it. Thanks
Nothing about any of that requires a quad core processor. It will be using part of one core, and they're just using the rest as marketing because the cheapest processor they could get that drives that screen happens to be vastly overspecced.
Well, they are most likely going from their sales figures... If your integrated grinder machines significantly outsell your standalone machines, you make more integrated grinder machines. At least they actually put decent grinders in them now lol
Don't they own Lelit now anyway so the Breville Sage brand will be the appliance and perhaps more tech focused with Lelit being the prosumer and craft focus I would imagine.
Well Breville support is really bad, back when you reviewed Touch Impress I got one, that machine is complete trash after 2 months of back and forward with sage/Breville since grinder was fauly and something with brewing was off since machine couldn't pull 2 shots that are remotely equal. I must say milQ thingy worked very very well ! In the end sold the machine half price to person who would accept faulty grinder.
I had the same problem, but sage took pretty good care of me. In case you are interested, all your machine probably needed as a new outer burr, they had a faulty batch of them
While I accept that this satisfies a certain market it absolutely is NOT for me. I'll stick my my energy inefficient E61 dual boiler rotary pump Profitec.
@@LanceHedrick but a very interesting video nonetheless Lance, and it's clear the future of coffee is bright (but I hope it keeps it's body too). Brew something tasty my man.
Honestly this machine is so trash. Its appliance grade, thermojet is such a copout. Its just a slightly better version of a thermoblock. For 2k you can spend just a little more and get a proper e61 that you can have for a lifetime. I get that its more energy effecient but its not even close to the same experience as having a dual boiler.
I can understand most of your critique but condemning the thermjet is silly. It's ferros tech. It's in the manument 20k lever and in the commercial machine Tone. They're incredible.
Just went and rewatched the first two minutes. I say there are exciting applications outside the oracle, taking away attention from the product itself. I point out my potential bias for those who might be curious but also note I'll be critical because I have pissed off lots of companies, breville included. Not sure where those "excuses" are you mention. Happy to see a direct quote or time stamp if you have one.
@@LanceHedrick Excuses are, admittedly, my opinion, and they may have been made in the first few minutes, not exactly the aforementioned two. Timestamps are roughly 3:15 and 3:38...
@jontpt ah. I get it. You're a weird obsessed person who need steaming and pulling same time. I'm super against boilers. So for me, of course I'm biased towards non boiler machines. But also, the second time stamp is objective. The upper limit in the US, or even Europe, won't allow two thermojets to run simultaneously. The power draw at one moment is too high. Still not seeing your point at all but all good. L opinions are technically legal.

I had the same problem, but sage took pretty good care of me. In case you are interested, all your machine probably needed as a new outer burr, they had a faulty batch of them
Not first?
Honey, wake up! My opinion on the Oracle Jet just dropped!
❤ On with the review, I'm sure it's awesome! Mazzer Philos when? 👀☕
While I accept that this satisfies a certain market it absolutely is NOT for me. I'll stick my my energy inefficient E61 dual boiler rotary pump Profitec.
Yeah definitely not for prosumers!
@@LanceHedrick but a very interesting video nonetheless Lance, and it's clear the future of coffee is bright (but I hope it keeps it's body too). Brew something tasty my man.
…you wore that hat just so you could drop it, didn’t you?
.....😇
Result of the tamp really looks bad :-(
@@70starre that was stopped mid way. Not post tamp.
@@70starre final tamp looks even. I pulled it before it was done to show how poor distribution is.
Oy vey I’m crying 🤣🤣🤣
Boy, you are getting thick!!
down 22 pounds, but the muscle volume increasinggggg
@@LanceHedrick Muito bem! Parabéns! E treina bem o português também, pra quando vir no Brasil tomar café em Minas Gerais.
Breville keeps finding ways to bilk suckers out of their money
Welcome to unbridled capitalism! Same with all grinder companies and every other espresso machine company! Lol
@LanceHedrick that's fair I have to check it out to have a proper opinion 👍
Love the way you make a ton of excuses for this machine's shortcomings within the first minute of the video, haha. Very objective! 😅
How did I do that? Pls enlighten me lol
I was very negative about numerous things
Just went and rewatched the first two minutes. I say there are exciting applications outside the oracle, taking away attention from the product itself. I point out my potential bias for those who might be curious but also note I'll be critical because I have pissed off lots of companies, breville included. Not sure where those "excuses" are you mention. Happy to see a direct quote or time stamp if you have one.
@@LanceHedrick don't even worry about it, the video was great mate. You were plenty critical of it.
