NORTH AMERICA'S SMALLEST DOVE, THE COMMON GROUND-DOVE!

Common Ground-Dove is found in the southeast, south Texas and the very southwest part of the U.S. At 6.5 inches, it's the smallest dove in North America! They are also found through Mexico, Central and South America as well as the West Indies. Females in the West Indies have a much more scaly breast than the ones found in the U.S. They are often found in pairs, male and females together. As their name suggest, they are most commonly found on the ground. They make a small flimsy nest found either in a small shrub or on the ground. In this they will lay two white eggs. It really is a beautiful elegant looking dove! Enjoy!

Hello , I am wondering if this common ground dove is the same thing as a the Pygmy ground dove . They sell the latter on Strombergs chickens and I would like to know

All non-game birds in the United States are protected by law. The Common Ground-Dove found in the United States would be a protected species. There are many others species of ground-doves found from Mexico south into South America. The Pygmy Ground-Dove may be a fancy name for one of the others species south of the U.S. border. So species south of the border may not have laws protecting them. So perhaps those are one of the species sold online.
