I am learning now to become train driver. This month i have my first 3 week practice. I will be ready train driver here in Sweden 2022. Best job you can have.
Good luck!
good luck your live the dream now
Work and study hard and you can look forward to a great life, I’ve been an instructor for the last 15 years and I still love my job after more than 20 years train driving.
Yes and I expect you will be under the same pension rights and travel concessions as everyone else who works on Swedish Railways unlike here in Britain.
@@paulm2467 I can imagine. I worked as subway driver before. It was very good job too. But Traindriver is even better.
He was driving 91132, the locomotive involved in two fatal crashes and the first of the Class 91's to be scrapped.
I wanted to become a train driver but in the 70's the future for rail looked bleak so I became a teacher. One of the little lads I taught grew up, I bumped into him in town and asked what his job was. You've guessed it. I was sick with jealousy for several days. A year or two later I heard he'd stopped train driving as it was too stressful. I am now a professional driver (OO gauge model trains at a tourist attraction, click the logo for fun clips, especially the disco)
Saltspring Railway nice story but train driving up in north, Sweden, Norway it’s a life only mountains and snow forever
RUclips fan Bot You Swedish?
Nick Burningleaves yes up in northern Sweden drives over to Norway on a train road called malmbanan=ore road it’s called so because we drive ore on it from a Swedish mine to the coast of narvik where they ship ore to the world.
@Olaf the Snowman It's a long time ago but I believe he was driving for a yr or two. We bumped into his mum several times and she'd tell us how much he was enjoying it.
@Olaf the Snowman Known few drivers that cant deal with the job its not hard but it can be quite stressful if you think to much into it ie what could happen if you screw up . Also you have to deal with continues assessment ride outs and down loads its great job / pay if you can deal with it
I grew up as a train-loving kid in Japan and currently working in the railway industry but not as a driver. Hope to become one in the future, though uncertain if I'll pass the strict tests and training.
You will pass. Goodluck in the future
My uncle was a train driver who would subscribe to all the magazines, build models in his free time and frequent railway museums- sometimes multiple times a month just to chat to likeminded people
he never 'worked' a day in his life. If they gave him food and shelter he'd have done it for free. My goal is to find something im half as passionate about as he was
Who ever decided to cut it off so suddenly huff's paint thinner.

It's a great job! Only downside is the public.
Hi what difficulties have you had with the public ?
Hopefully I am aiming to be a trainer train driver so trying to build up a clear view of the job
Trainee**
Red 2005 the public are the only reason the job exists.
@Olaf the Snowman freight is good but not very secure. Passenger work is more stressful but very secure
@@user-lg7jo3md5n Dealing with the public ???? How about drunken passengers trying to open the doors whilst moving along, thereby cutting power to traction motors, bringing train to a halt, neccessitating leaving the cab, resetting the failsafe at the offending doors, being abused by passengers for stopping and buggering up the time table, then Traffic control gets on your back expecting you to make up time ILLEGALLY. How about passengers being assaulted by other passengers enroute, besides driving train, you need to alert the authorities to ensure police in attendance in advance locations, or even rape attempts of stealing. The list goes on and on. Stay the hell away from passenger trains, stick to freight. They are the best.
For me it's not a 'Dream' job but it is a very good one! Has many downsides especially to social life and long term health due to shift work. Been a Driver for 16yrs

I’m love with trains at the minute 😍
I'm currently training to become a mainline train driver. Would anyone be interested if I made a channel and dedicated it to the training process, what to expect on the course and other bits and pieces I pick up that you might not know?
YES! If you could do that I would very much appreciate it
When I Was kid I would have dreamt of driving one the problems is so much intense training now which including health and safety safeguarding security risk assessments etc it is not just the signals to worry about it is also looking out for unexpected dangers the line such as fallen trees larger bits of debris and other rubbish even people or animals on the line and even dangers on the platform such unattended luggage people too close to the platform edge for comfort and so many other factors
I’ve sent my application, I think this is something I would like to do. The pay is also pretty good from what I’ve been told.
Is it really???
Indeed, it's my dream too.

And I've just stuck to the idea and I'm really pushing for it to he my future job.
I will probably have to pick up some temporary jobs in the future untill I've reached maturity, but yes it will forever be my dream job. 😊
I am a manufacturing engineer . I have worked in the car & similar industries. I have a yearning to drive a freight locomotive ( Diesel Electric) in between say Melbourne & Sydney in Australia. Major issue against are rough track & becoming very used to the one route .
I would be willing to drive a train only if i had the possibility to start every day at 10 or 11 am. 🤗
You can do. At my place you do a week of earlies (start about 5am ish) followed by a week of lates (start 12 noon-ish) some drivers have swapped so they do constant earlies or constant lates as that suits some people better. I prefer earlies but like the change every week.

It’s funny, they have a lot in common and share a lot of safety critical and training methods such as simulators but pilots are seen as middle class, smartly dressed professionals whereas train drivers are perceived as scruffy, working class oiks who are always on strike, I’m a driver/instructor in London and have never been on strike.
Any full episodes of these?
the franchise ended in feb 2015, so it was deffo filmed between 2009 and 2015
yep
Great but far too short. Why didn't we get the full feature?
It is my dream job, I could probably start up a class 66 with no instructor present.. sadly I don't know what I need to do for it... qualifications, do I need a Car driving licence before I can drive a loco.. If I had this job I'd never strike I'd never ask for a raise. I'd never work a day in my life because I'd love barrelling down the rails. Delivering passengers or freight to their destinations
I always wanted to drive a loco, well I was born in the 50s so drivimg steam was the dream.
In reality it was dirty and hard work but more to the point,, even today with the cleanliness of diesel and electric traction the downside of it is shitty work, not just plain mornings, afternoons and nights, but strange shifts that vary slot.
It is well known that shift work is bad for health,, humans aren't nocturnal and we like routine.
It's principally earlies and lates, our earliest shift is 0430 start and our latest finishes around 1:20, nights are permanent in our organisation. You are quite right in that it's the worst and hardest part of the job but it seems to be really variable from person to person. The shifts also vary in length and difficulty so you can have a 9 hour shift with 8 hrs in the cab or one with 5 hours driving, our shortest shifts are only between 6 and 7 hours with 4/5 hours driving and these are all the really early starts and some of the really late finishes. Normal day shifts are pretty rare and also unpopular as they necessitate traveling in the rush hour.
This is too foreshadowing. I'm also an accountant and I'm here watching because of how stressful tax season is. I hope this becomes me 1 day.
Help. All the keys are in German. I don’t know how to make it go forward. How do I get it to go forward. I DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE THE TRAIN
I have worked 34 year as train driver on diesel, electric locomotive
Is the pay good???
literally the only reason im here is for an english assignment
I love the massive sign on the panel "Do not cover up this sign" :D Obviously it is for the TPWS buttons but I felt like the sign could have been put somewhere else.
I’ve developed a permanent neurological issue to artificial lights so I cannot work as a train driver anymore :(
Hi Steve, when did you first choo choo choose to become a train driver?
To become a train driver, how long does it take?
I love the fact they called East Coast ''East Coast Trains''. It's funny because next year we will be getting a new company called ''East Coast Trains'' onto the ECML operating express passenger services just like the current LNER, wich will therefor make it a perfect rival company as they will use the new Hitachi 800's too just like LNER.

Vigilance is more like 4-5 seconds to respond lol and yes. It's an awesome job.
@Green Pudding so do I you dick. Look at my picture.
The speed determines the period of time.
Perhaps you're talking about a specific traction? But generally the answer is no, speed doesnt determine period of time.@@Ahmad-f5d6x
@Floofarri 458 Yes it is, in fact I think it’s longer than that. I think about 6 seconds but of course it could vary slightly by traction. I think you’re getting confused with AWS which you only have about 2.5-3s seconds to cancel (again, it will vary slightly by traction)
2.7 seconds on a 377/455 for AWS
7 seconds on a 377 DSD, every 60 seconds if not action taken in cab while in forward.
0 seconds on a 455 DSD as u keep Pedal depressed the whole time while in forward But that’s just with Southerns Trains.

How much are train drivers paid per month?
Day and night, weekend or holiday, sometimes in high noise, dirty and oily vehichles, not really well payed, one malfunction here, one suicidal person there, but keep attention no matter what. Yeah, dream job alright.
The average base pay for a Train Driver in the UK is £54,184 per year
Does that count as good? In my country, our salary isn't much above as a school teacher's.
Special Guest Star yes it is good. Double the national average wage and only 40 hr week. One of the top paid jobs in the uk without a degree.
I don't think we're in the same country. Not even counting the high pay other people have mentioned; train drivers in the UK are incredibly well looked after. Working at night? Double pay. Working weekends or holidays? Double pay. Dirty or oily locos? Refuse to take it anywhere until it's cleaned. Malfunction? Do the same. That suicidal person just turned into as much time off, fully paid, as you need. Get three suicidal people in your entire career? Immediately retired (optional, of course) with a final salary pension, never have to work another day in your life. Yeah, dream job alright.
@@Freakymonify I'm a train driver, and no, we don't get double pay for night shift, weekends, or holidays... it's all part of the working day. If we refused to take a train coz the loco was dirty (which it always is), we'd be sacked. As much time as we want after a suicide - fat chance! Again, we'd be sacked straight away. Three suicides and final salary pension??? What world are you living in? I've had 7, and am still expected to drive. I'm not saying it's a bad job. However, your assumptions are completely wrong. Unfortunately we get assaulted so often by people like you who assume we do nothing, but you have no clue what goes on behind the scenes. But I'm starting to see that everyone is an expert in what they know nothing about...
How it's qualification progress which degree ITI/deploma 🤔🤔
Only is Asia and the middle east. In the UK train driving has no independent qualification related. If you pass the entry tests and exams, you are trained ftom 'ab initio' (completely unqualified) until you begin work in operation.

@@GJB21 thank you you made my day 😁
It's not necessary to be particularly smart, you have to be able to concentrate for a long time, to be able to follow instructions and apply the correct methods and techniques consistently, to take responsibility and to communicate, collaborate and understand what is required of you, take the assessments and they will show whether you are potentially a train driver, you have nothing to lose and you might be pleasantly surprised.

If the driver dies and rests on top of the DSD pedal, its only vigilance (or TPWS/ AWS)that will stop the train from the cab. Passengers probably wouldnt know so wont pull the passcoms that will bring the train to a halt.

You don't need academic qualifications in the UK. You need a confident command of written English and numeracy but not with a stipulated academic certificate. My brother-in-law became a train driver with Northern in 2016. He only had a maths and an English GCSE. There are around 30 assessments and tests that they do in-house. It's more about concentration and fast response times than academic knowledge.

The vigilance device is also known as AWS. I think
@EnglishMuffin AWS is for warning of signal aspect sounds a horn applies brake it not acknowledged on any signal at a caution aspect only time used for speed is with a TSR temp speed restriction . TPWS can be triggered by speed when approaching signal at caution to fast DRA is passenger train only it helps prevent setting of on a red Drivers reminder apparatus
@Floofarri 458 Don’t forget some networks/traction have additional safety systems. For example, the GWML and Chiltern are fitted with Automatic Train Protection (ATP). And the WCML are fitted with Tilt Authorisation Speed Supervision (TASS) for Class 221s/390s. Another example is the underground and Thameslink in the core which have Correct Side Door Enable/Release (CSDR/CSDE) which prevents wrong side doors from being released.
