And it's not just the Hiby R3 Pro Saber... it's the Hiby R3 Pro Saber 2022 😅 . The 2022 version has a decent power boost compared to the previous Saber.

You could have mentioned the Hiby have streaming (Tidal and Qobuz) and the M1s doesn't..... (Shanling said they would bring Tidal in a future firmware update but no news about that since the release......)

Ah that's good to know. I stream 99% of the time and thought that these non-Android DAPs meant no streaming services so I immediately discounted them as something that wouldn't be much use to me. Now I might reconsider.
Personally don't stream at all as I'd rather spend my money to make a permanent collection, so no streaming support is a non-issue, personally
@@jafizzle95 tidal integration on the R3 is so poor I almost never use it, even though it was one of the reasons I got the R3. I constantly have to sign in and then the UI is such a pain to use. They really need to make it better. I thought it would work like USB audio player pro or BubbleUPnP which both have good tidal integration.
Tidal streaming is now supported on the Shanling M1s in the latest update.
The volume controls flip on the R3 when you flip the display. So no matter what orientation you have it on up is up and down is down.
The pull up menu on the Hiby is essentially a visual clone of the older iOS pull up menu before they made it a pull down menu, in case you were wondering why it looks the way it does. Like the redundant track info and playback controls in that square, basically it looks like that because the old iOS menu looked like that. Not saying it's a bad thing, just an interesting tidbit.
Would it be better pick up one of these new DAPs are swing the same $$$ for a used A&K AK or SR15?

@Zeos KPH40 with the KSC75 earclips. Perfect! Folks who complain about the clips. You have to move them/adjust them. A little elbow grease. Once you get it right, they’re great. No pinch. No discomfort.
Next DAP comparison Hiby R2 Gen II vs. Shanling m0 pro please. 😊 Some of us are poor... or have wives and kids.
I have yet to be able to afford headphones that require me to move up from the hiby r3 sabre, it sounds fabulous, I have literally KZ Pr2s, and QKZ HBB Khans. I got a very good midfi balanced cable and good eartips, I am very happy with it, given the MSEB magic..they both sound amazing.

im super excited to get the rinkos. i heard planars need more power. so gonna grab the chimera cables, but Zeos. QDC ARE THE TRUE CONNECTORS!!! im always nervous with the 2 pins.
I always think of the QDC connector as an "uncircumcised" 2pin 🤣

Use my R3 (2022 Saber) with a Little Bear BX-4 but now I'll be popping it on the Hip-Dac2! Oh yeah, the latest firmware splits the pull up and adds a pull down menu, its a little easier to navigate now.

What update is this? I seem to be on the latest firmware (2.2) but don't have a swipe down menu.
@@jawileth5412 it's 2.2.on the R3 Pro Saber 2022. Swipe down has your wireless/by/line out etc. Swipe up has volume and playback controls.

@@jawileth5412 System Settings->UI Themes, pick the first one (blue). Other custom themes can be used but not played with any yet.

So…I am pretty sure both have Saber DACs…not the same Saber DAC but both are Sabers. :) And the M1s has discrete amps for each channel. The 2.5mm on the HiBy is a complete NO for me. I have too much invested in 4.4mm cables :)
I dont need portable. I need a digital music player to plug into my edifier s3000 pro. How do these compare to something like a Topping M50?

My issue with Non-Android DAP is they can't seem to shuffle play Tracks that are in Sub Folders. E.g I want to shuffle play an Artist Folder which houses their Album folders in it. It doesn't allow me to shuffle play at the Artist Folder but instead I had to shuffle Play at the Albums. Does the shangling have this problem?
I THINK I understand what you want. This should be a Software issue not an OS issue. I'd need to know the exact folder structure. It really should go off of TAGS and not the folder for an Artist specific shuffle.
You don't need any folders if you have proper tagging
@@ZReviews yeah I guess you're right. I'm just too lazy / unorganized to TAGS everything at this point. I use Foobar2K w/ Folder Structure on Desktop. Whenever I click on a Folder in Foobar it list Every tracks on the main Box and I just shuffle play that. For Example : Cowboy Bebop (Main Folder). in the Cowboy Bebop Main's Folder houses OST 1, OST 2, OST 3 Folders, etc... with Android, I am able to shuffle Play at the Main Folder(Cowboy Bebop) and it plays everything that is within that Folder. but for these Non-Android DAP I not allowed to do that. Hope this clears up everything. 😆
I recently watched your Fiio M11S review and I have to agree with you the sound is lacking with no real punch or richness to the music, I wish I got the M11 Plus ESS edition as I've heard that sounds better but now can't afford it, I use the Sennheiser HD 660s with the M11s which aren't too hard to drive but there's no real slam or kick to the music with the M11s.
if you didn't get a slam with M11S you would not get it with M11 Pluss ESS either. Zeos's thoughts about M11s were wrong. it's excellent dap with powerful and engaging sound.
Your issue is the 660s. That HP is wack. All mids. No bass. No treble. You’re never gonna get punch and slam with a 660s. Get different headphones.
@@JohnSmith-oe4bw Yes definitely, I'm very disappointed with the Sennheiser HD 660s headphones, I'm looking into purchasing the Audeze LCD-X as I've heard they have extended bass and treble as well as good mids, better imaging and soundstage too.

The real question is, one of these or a BTR7? BTR7 has more power I think but having a built-in DAP is pretty nice. No idea about sound quality but if these can make up for the power with good sound then it's pretty obvious. A shame about 2.5mm on the HiBy though
btr7 has the sound close to the M11 Plus ESS :)

For sure. The lower bitrates don't matter that much. Common streaming bitrates, (256-320kbps 16 bit) are usually indistinguishable from 'higher quality' bitrates (FLAC, ALAC, 24 bit etc.).
Blind tests often show this. Aficionados may be able to hear a difference... If they're looking for it.
Buzzwordy words like soundstage, instrument separation, low noise floor, resolution, etc. do get thrown around too much, but they are real things that get improved substantially by upgrading from a phone to a good DAP.
Keep in mind diminishing returns though, a $200 player will often sound 90% as good as a $1000 player. And people often obsess so much over 'better sound' that they start listening to the equipment instead of the music.
Shanling m1s looks smoother. My hiby unit also is too ofter restart by itself.

Pretty sure both of those DAPs are running some version of Android OS. While I like the idea of DAPs my old LG V30 phone with a decent DAC for FLAC / MQA and ability to run headphones like HD 600s made them a little pointless.
No, they both run HiByOS, some of the only ones left to do so. Its a small footprint linux based OS.
