I’ll always hold Jamal Hartwell in high regards. I’ve been watching his videos since I started playing keyboard. Over ten years later, I’m still learning from his content. Such a blessing!
I was one of the first people in England to get the MoXF8. Having previously owned the Mo8 this blows it away in sound quality as it has 8 elements and 128 note polyphony . The main reason I did not upgrade to the motif XS or XfF is that as a pianist I need 88 keys and they were to heavy for one person to carry, this is light weight and as short as you can get in a 88 key version due to the pitch and modulation wheels being above.
I would love to have a moxf. I want moxf because its lightweight, it has a 1 gb expansion slot, and it has all the motif xf sounds. ALL OF THEM !! And the sounds are incredible !!!
Unfortunately, you are better off getting the Motif XF7. At first I had a XF8, but it got so heavy from bringing it up and down three flight of stairs, every monday and sunday for church. Therefore I invested in the the XF7. I said to myself I never buy a keyboard without the heavy weighted keys, but after playing the xf7, before buying it, I said, "man, these keys feel great". And I got the keyboard for only $1850. You can buy up to 2gb of flash, and it comes with 128 SDRAM for sampling, plus you can sample, and it has the 8 sliders. This keyboard weigh approx., 37 pounds, a lot better then 75 pounds. And you will be able to still load Jamal sounds. If you want to think about the future, this is the keyboard go with, 1gb isn't enough space for loading samples, before you eventually run out. You will have to stay patience, and wait when the xf7 have a special, which I did.
Michael Knight I would agree with you Michael. The Motif XF IS the ultimate, BUT it's just too expensive for most users. The price you got yours for is a steal and not realistic. The XF7 is about $2,700. You can get the MOXF8 for $1,700. That's a hard sale for most people to pay $1,000 more :(.
GospelMusicians I totally agree with you !! I know that the motif xf still is a much better machine to buy but the motif xf is too expensive !! And the motif xf is a very heavy machine to go around with. The moxf is lightweight, Have the same engine as the motif xf and it almost have all the sounds that the motif xf have. And it have a 1 gb flash rom so you can load new sounds into your moxf. So the price is huge for what you get ; )

Man I agree with you 100% about the weighted key opinion! I been wanting this board forever! I'm buying a studio bundle for it hopefully around early December. It'll be my very first personal owned motif sound engine keyboard.I an VERY excited for this...oh and the Playstation 4 too! lol
It will be so awsome if GospelMusicians bring there new software of Fm Tine Dx mac & pc plugin and bring those sounds into a flash for the MOXF8, mannn if that could happen i'll be the first one in buying it, please jamal make that happen, scripture teaches for God nothing is imposible AMEN
Brother, thank you for your wisdom and knowledge. May God keep blessing your ministry always. The MOXF6 just might be my next gigging keyboard, the price is just awesome!!!!! Thanks again for the very detailed info especially knowing that this keyboard is also a USB audio interface instead of good old FireWire. God bless.
This definitely seems to be the best keyboard of it's type out there in the 'mid-range' price bracket, mainly because of the expandable flash memory slot and use of the Motif XF sound engine. My only big vice with this keyboard is it's omission of aftertouch.- That may not be a big deal to most but for folks like me that are used to having it, it can be a little bit' of a downer. (Of course, proper use of an expression pedal can alleviate most of that). I'm not expecting polyphonic aftertouch but it's not a big deal to include at least channel aftertouch at this level and it shouldn't be a 'carrot item' to a multi grand$$$ piece. Overall, this is a fantastic piece of hardware and the good far outweighs any bad... highly recommended.. and yes, I do own one myself. :) Btw and for reference.. the Kurzweil PC3LE8 is a similarly priced and very good keyboard with decent aftertouch.. but you can't expand the sounds. Firewire smirewire. For new hardware? I don't even consider it and I only expect to see USB and MIDI as that's all we really need. I also tend not to buy anything like this if it's USB only.. I want to see both.
Very helpful. I've always been fascinated with my friends who have Nords, but the default sounds I find are no where near the Moxf. I was looking at the Nord, but after watching this I'm looking to purchase this keyboard probably within the next week. lol
Bought one about a week ago and I love it the hammer action has grown on me . I still have my s90es although I love the feel of the es the feel of the keys moxf seem a little more expressive and thank you as I also have another interface and was wandering aloud using both at the same time one which is FireWire and the moxf USB so thanks for clarifying.i will pick up your flash when it becomes availible and thanks again brah!
That was very thorough and useful demonstration. I think that opened my eyes for what's important and what's not. Thank you very much for your video:).
Thanks bruh. Tell Yamaha that they sewed into you, and after watchin' this video (and the unboxing).. ..influenced my purchase decision. Got one last night; the 88. And yeah, you were on point with the weighted action. Good lookin' G. Gopel Rap now has a new paint brush.
Hi - great video! i think you mean the wall-wart electric plug...not Walmart ;-) Also, the reason the unit is made of plastic has nothing to do with the price, though price does come down with plastics; however, the reason it's plastic is to reduce weight. This unit is so light. Thank you for these informative videos though - :-) best ~R
Thanks Jamal. I got the MOXF8 last tuesday, and are so happy! Have used your sounds for Kontakt 5 for some time, and are really looking forward to have them inside the MOXF - and let the macbook and babyface stay home :) Hope you make both 1024 and 512 versions to buy. Thanks for the inspiration!
I've owned a XF for years... I thought it would be a significant upgrade from my XS, but they're basically both the same... and you can buy a used XS for $1200... the problem I have is that they both weight 50 lbs.... how can you put that in your lap and play in a recliner, the weight hurts your legs... so the MOX6 only weights 23 lbs.... a significant advantage for playing while watching some movie on my TV.... if I want to record I can use my XF, hooked into my computer using Studio One Pro..... any of them are a lot of fun and a real challenge.
There's not a lot of places that carry Yamaha in my city. I'm in Florence, SC, and also do the companies finance the keyboards so you can get them or you have to pay in full before getting them
I googled "MOXF instructional DvD" and nothing for that came up. It did however have your site listed to similar searches. I see you don't have anything like that and maybe that's due to Yamaha or something, but to put it out there, I admire your skill, enthusiasm and business sense. I'm not interested in the sound sets but I just play a different genre is all, and different sounds, etc. However, what I would be interested in is for you or someone like you to put together an instructional DvD on the MOXF8. I have a Korg Triton that I still don't fully understand and can never make sense of the manuals. A good instructional DvD to basically cover all the ins and outs of getting the most out of it. Using Master mode for instance, in using it in a live situation to most effectively switch through your set list. Modifying patches, explanations of key concepts, etc, etc, etc... I don't know the barriers in the way though and imagine if it was that simple, you would be doing that already, but if you sold something like that, you could put me down for one right now. Just food for thought. If there was legal issues in the way of such a thing, I can tell you that you could have a private channel with unlisted videos and make that available to people who donated a certain amount to your site (PayPal). It's legal and bypasses lots of things like this since you would just be making videos available to people as a courtesy for their generosity and technically they wouldn't be purchasing anything. Again, just food for thought.
Can you make an in depth video on its sequencing? It's the selling point for me. Cant find any videos on that. I'm deciding between the motif xf6 and this one based on sequencing mainly.. Thank you
Have to disagree on just one point buddy, the Kronos and Nord are pretty much top of the range. You’re right about the Mox range though, they are excellent keyboards, professional sound and very light. I think the only slight criticisms are the keybed and small monochrome display. For the price though it’s crazy, you’re getting so much for low cost and the sound banks are incredible. Greetings from the U.K. by the way.
Always appreciate your videos.... I'll finally have the opportunity to sit down a play with my MOXF6 today. Unlike the Krono's, the sequencer of the MOXF is easy to use such as the ES, which is the last keyboard I purchased. Every Guitar Center I've walk in, no one knows how to operate the Krono's lol. To be honest, I based my decision from Jamal's unboxing of the moxf video, everything he said was enough for ME to make a sound decision. Money well spent :-)
Thanks for your excellent demo(s). Just want to share that, at 14:00, you mention the "Wal-Mart" plug. I'm pretty certain that these adaptor-type plugs are actually nicknamed "wall wart" because of their appearance when plugged into the wall outlet. Thanks again for your informative videos and God bless.
Oh, another thing. The ES might be "old" technology to most, but to me having an option to have alternative synthesis methods (VL, AN, DX) is still as attractive (if not more attractive) as flash ROM. Don't get me wrong, I was seriously thinking of preordering MOXF8, but once I saw it and felt it in the store, I am glad I didn't preorder. Still wouldn't mind to get Yamaha sounds in a rack format.
I don't think a Rack is coming soon. Companies have been getting away from racks. I use to have an ES with all of the Xpansion boards, but I am fortunate enough to sample, so I can sample all of my favorite VSTs and it's like I have my VSTs from my computer sitting inside of my Motif.
GospelMusicians That's too bad about the unavailability of the XF rack version. When it comes to sampling, of course sample libraries are wonderful, but for some form of expression, some things seem to be impossible to sample. For instance, I have never experienced a sampled DX elec piano, that is even remotely as expressive as the one on the DX7 or PLG-DX150 board. Never even mind attempting to sample a VL sound (WX5 wind controler seems to be the way to go for the VL anyway). Having said that, the SRX sample library in Roland Integra-7 is quite amazing, and in my opinion better than sort of gimmicky "superNatural" sounds. When it comes to Yamaha, of course I can't afford a Motif. I like Motif XF7, but $3,200 is very steep. The most advanced Yamaha I have is the EX5, which interestingly has flash ROM, albeit 16MB, but flash ROM it is, nonetheless. As far as new gear goes, Motif rack would be the only option to me. I cringe at lack of expandability of the Rack XS. But since you're saying that companies turn away from rack units, I might decide to get the Rack XF and SPX2000 while they still sell new.
Mr. Jamal, could/would you do a comparison video of the Roland FA to the Yamaha MOXF? I am having a lot of difficulty determining which of these two boards I need for worship music/home sequencing? It seems that the FA may have better functionality, but I absolutely love the MOXF sounds (much more so than the Roland).
Jamal, When are you coming to Europe again? I live in Switzerland and I would love to attend one of your workshops with Precious. Please let me know. Thanks and God bless.
First this is a great review. Second, you mention getting bored. I've thought about that and in all honesty, if someone is bored with hundreds and hundreds of presets and the ability to tweak those presets, there's something wrong. At that point you're not as focused on music as preset mongering. I'm guilty of it myself but I need to slow down as do many of my colleagues. Just a thought. Great info and thanks for doing this!
Have you yet created an instructional video of step-by-step of loading new samples onto the Flash card and then showing how to use those within a voice patch? Please give us the low-down on how to use the Flash card. Thanks
Hi Jamal ! You are doing a great job,Blessing to many..God bless you! I have got two questions; 1.I want to know how to cut sustain to the left bass when you split, 2.Can you share your personal tones, combs and samples?
Great video! I have purchased this keyboard and NEED a video explaining how to enable the keyboard to receive MIDI signals from the iPad apps. The apps would in theory alleviate the lack of sliders but communication between the devices is not being made. PLEASE HELP
Hi, can you explain how to change sounds in a live situation only with one button, (favorites ! ... not a list or scrolling in a menu ...) beside all the cool things that i never use : ) grtz
Dear brother what we need are some instructional videos and tutorials on the OS. we have the moxf6 and coming from the triton and the m50 the yamaha system is not registering on our old man brains. things like creating a strumming guitar, the korg does that easily. If you put up tutorials we will definitely have to purchase. Peace!
Hi Jamal - thank you for this great video. Have you played the newer Yamaha MODX8 and, if so, how do you like it compared to the MOXF8? Do you prefer one over the other?
Question for you GospelMusician im getting ready to buy the MOXF 6 got the mox6 and after checking out your video its going back only had it 4 days didnt even take it out of the box lol really. When I buy your flash do i have to do anything to get it going just plug it in and its ready to go?
Hi. You mentioned that you were going to be selling these boards. Give some type of time frame and price point with the flash and sounds you spoke of. I bought the uvi soul keys from you. Love um.
Hey there! Anyone can answer. I play with a super loud guitarist and need to hear myself on keys (discussions of the meaning of "ensemble playing" get me nowhere). Is there a way to use the mono left out to the soundboard and have the headphone channel also function?
Okay great! Is Cubase or Ableton better? I have the lite version of both. Which one will be easier to use? Or, do you recommend something else. I am also gonna pick up that neo soul keys 3X from you...its smokin!!!!
Any chances of Motif XF Rack coming out? The Rack XS has been around for FIVE years!!! I think it's time. If Rack-XF is NOT coming out, I have to get Rack XS, no choice... I can't have another keyboard.
how do i saved song from my Yamaha moxf8 to the usb stick and load it back on the motif xf88

Very good video, I'm Brazilian, and always watch your videos. Could put subtitles? I read English well, but do not quite understand when spoken so quickly. grateful congratulations for videos
Hey, Mr. Hartwell. my name is Shekinah Antoine. I play for my church.. but I can't seem to get the volume control of multiple voices. I press the 2 buttons but it doesn't work. can you help me please? thanks
Hello Sir, I really need to ask you a professional question… It’s been many many years since I played a piano, I’m still in the beginning to intermediate playing… Since I’m not a church key board player, a professional, I’m looking to purchase a Yamaha GDX 670, what do you think about this keyboard as far a starting over, Or should I just invest in purchasing the Yamaha Moxf8 88 keys… However I will also need a amp to go along with this keyboard, please help…
Hey Jamal, I have a couple of questions to ask you If you don't mind. I am brand new to playing the keyboard and the piano. I bought the Yamaha MOXF8 a couple of days ago to play for my church and to make gospel music but I am completely lost and I need some help. Would it be possible that u can do a description video showing the functions and how to work the MOXF, please? Also i want to purchase your flash for the MOXF but i don't see it any more can you send me the link or tell me where i can purchase it from and tell me how to install it in my keyboard. I love the sounds from your flash! Also i am teaching my self how to play the keyboard online, do u have any beginner videos that i can watch?I know its a lot but your consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated. P.S. I admire your work that you have been called to do. Thank you so much for putting the church back into music!
No way will we be able to offer lessons on the MOXF for free. That takes way too much time and resources to shoot quality videos. We may consider doing this as an instructional video, but there are already great resources at: Motifator.com/ The Flash will be available Monday. Make sure you are signed up for the mailing list. Yea. we do have a beginners DVD that would be good: store.gospelmusicians.com/Play-By-Ear-Package/
Just wondering if you make tracks for church I'm a Pastor and I have church in California I also own a MOxf 88 keys but i need some tracks recorded on them. If you could will be grateful.
I'm a musician on a budget. This is the keyboard I'm drooling over but perhaps just a little too pricey at least for the moment. I understand what he said about penny pinching though- so true. My question is: What is your opinion on the Yamaha MM8? I see mixed reviews on it. Its a couple of steps lower than the MOXF8 of course. (Open to anyone)
I have owned the Classic 6, MM8, MO6, ES6 XF7 and would say that the sounds are fine in the MM8 but the keys are very cheap. I sold it after 6 months of owning it. If you are looking for a good Motif on a budget then the MOXF or MOX are the way to go. The MM8 has nice sounds but if you are not a new musician you will be wanting something new a few months after owning it. FYI: I am getting ready to buy the MOXF6 myself.
I don't think is it fair for people like me to buy just a new keyboard, most of us have already your software at least we should have a discount on those flash board, other then that I love you my brother.God bless
Well we don't have control over what new keyboard comes out. It's just the way of life. You buy one thing and the next new thing comes out. The FLASH boards are already discounted.
@6:28 sir, it's the first time i heard that "classic gospel fat horns" thing.. and i love it! can you point me in the right direction of drawing near to those sounds? i just started like half a year playing for a congregation and i want to use those sounds in our ministry. Thanks in advance and God bless sir! :)
Did you have to make adjustments on the concert grand piano like adding eq and reverb? the concert grand piano on mine sounds more electronic than acoustic.
On the MOXF6 / MOXF8 Is it possible to load my own samples - let's say drum one shots - and load them and use them as a drum kit on that keyboard. For instance 50 drum one shots spread across the keyboard just like the factory drum kits ? Thanks for your videos!
Jamal, I noticed when you where in the Ep 2 on the MKSensation you moved the modulation wheel and the chorus came on, was that the original MKS chorus like the one on MKSensation? It didn't sound like it but maybe it's just my ears.
I’ll always hold Jamal Hartwell in high regards. I’ve been watching his videos since I started playing keyboard. Over ten years later, I’m still learning from his content. Such a blessing!
Did something happen to him?
I was already sold on the MOXF 8. This video just increased my excitement!!!
Jamal bro we need you to do an instructional video on the new Yamaha MODX
I just got the MOXF8 last month and I’m loving it! Thank You for inspiring musicians like myself. God Bless You My Brother!
Congrats again bro. I am also inspired by Jamal. Amazing player and human being.
Congrats brother!!! Jamal is an georgeous player and a better person. I'm also getting the MOXF8 next month!!!
@@criskeys14 Enjoy it. It's a very deep keyboard. You may want to spend some time in the manual.
@@AirplaiTv yes, I will. This keyboard needs a deep overview, because of the profesionality on there
How do you guys compare it to MODX? Thinking to get MOXF mainly for acoustic instruments nd the onboard controls. God bless.
Got this keyboard awhile back and I'm loving it. Still trying to figure out how to learn all the ins and outs if it though haha.
I keep coming back to this video just to see Jamal's expressions when he plays. Ha! Hope i can smile that great when i perform!
Just smile, it's not hard

To be honest, I based my decision from Jamal's unboxing of the moxf video, everything he said was enough for ME to make a sound decision. Money well spent :-)
Now you got to get the Flash when I'm done!
Bella tastiera, belle mani amico mio! vorrei studiare con te!!!!!
I'm sold. Now should I trade in my S90ES or keep it for a stationary keyboard to replace my Baby Grand piano?
Ur videos have always been enjoyable with u playing I actialy prefer u playing in ur videos 👍🙌
Jamal, another difference between the MOXF and the Motif XF is that
the Motif XF has twice the number of performances as the MOXF.

Jamal,
When are you coming to Europe again? I live in Switzerland and I would love to attend one of your workshops with Precious. Please let me know. Thanks and God bless.
First this is a great review. Second, you mention getting bored. I've thought about that and in all honesty, if someone is bored with hundreds and hundreds of presets and the ability to tweak those presets, there's something wrong. At that point you're not as focused on music as preset mongering. I'm guilty of it myself but I need to slow down as do many of my colleagues. Just a thought. Great info and thanks for doing this!
I absolutely agree with you on your second point!
Have you yet created an instructional video of step-by-step of loading new samples onto the Flash card and then showing how to use those within a voice patch? Please give us the low-down on how to use the Flash card. Thanks
So sad Jamal can't answer my question
Hello Bro are you gonna a review of the MODX ?
Blessings
Great work 👏 👍
I play acoustic piano
and i like to move to keyboard piano
I like to create
I'll appreciate which keyboard you recommend to buy
Hi :) I really like your videos ! Can you please post some smooth jazz piano chords progression you often use in your videos ? Thank you
Hey Jamal the sounds you were playing from your personal collection will those be available for sale, say via a flash card or so?
Hi Jamal ! You are doing a great job,Blessing to many..God bless you!
I have got two questions;
1.I want to know how to cut sustain to the left bass when you split,
2.Can you share your personal tones, combs and samples?
wow this so educative learning a lot sir God bless u
Great video! I have purchased this keyboard and NEED a video explaining how to enable the keyboard to receive MIDI signals from the iPad apps. The apps would in theory alleviate the lack of sliders but communication between the devices is not being made. PLEASE HELP
Mantap bang....
Greetings from brazil man!
Thanks for the demo. I think my Kronos is on its way out.
Muito bom Jamal, sou teu fã!
Hi, can you explain how to change sounds in a live situation only with one button, (favorites ! ... not a list or scrolling in a menu ...) beside all the cool things that i never use : )
grtz
Dear brother what we need are some instructional videos and tutorials on the OS.
we have the moxf6 and coming from the triton and the m50 the yamaha system is not registering on our old man brains.
things like creating a strumming guitar, the korg does that easily.
If you put up tutorials we will definitely have to purchase.
Peace!

Jamal, great playing and sounds on your Flash!! But do you offer B-3 organs? If not, do you recommend the B's Knees?
Hi Jamal - thank you for this great video. Have you played the newer Yamaha MODX8 and, if so, how do you like it compared to the MOXF8? Do you prefer one over the other?
Cool stuff, I have question... Should I sell my yamaha cp33 and get this? I really like the Key bed and the sound of the cp33.
I own a yamaha mm6 which was a gr8 buy 4 years ago. In church I'd like to expand but everything is budget. I'm debating between a macbook or moxf8
I read English well, but do not quite understand when spoken so quickly.
grateful
congratulations for videos
I CANNOT GET THE KEY VELOCITY TO WORK WITH THE ORGANS ON THE MOXF, I PLAY IN A REGGAE AND I REALLY NEED THAT TOUCH VOLUME CONTRAST
Hey, Mr. Hartwell. my name is Shekinah Antoine. I play for my church.. but I can't seem to get the volume control of multiple voices. I press the 2 buttons but it doesn't work. can you help me please? thanks
Hello Sir,
I really need to ask you a professional question…
It’s been many many years since I played a piano, I’m still in the beginning to intermediate playing…
Since I’m not a church key board player, a professional, I’m looking to purchase a Yamaha GDX 670, what do you think about this keyboard as far a starting over, Or should I just invest in purchasing the Yamaha Moxf8 88 keys…
However I will also need a amp to go along with this keyboard, please help…
Do you still recommend the MOXF8? This video was 2013. Thinking about maybe purchasing one.
Man that Ep2 spoke to me!
Jamal what is the difference between the yamaha moxf6 and the yamaha modx6 keyboard/synth?
Hey Jamal,
I have a couple of questions to ask you If you don't mind.
We may consider doing this as an instructional video, but there are already great resources at: Motifator.com/
The Flash will be available Monday.
Did anyone ever end up getting the sounds if so how are they?
What is the difference between this MOSXF8 and the Yamaha PSR S970? And, How big is the difference? (Not to mention key number)
Is Yamaha going to make or do they have a upgrade kit for the Motif XF from Firewire to USB? Changing the card to USB internally in the Motif XF
@@Utoober-yp7mf the sound You hear in the video is the same exact sound we deliver. No EQ
On the MOXF6 / MOXF8 Is it possible to load my own samples - let's say drum one shots - and load them and use them as a drum kit on that keyboard. For instance 50 drum one shots spread across the keyboard just like the factory drum kits ? Thanks for your videos!
Hey Jamal! Are we still not able to buy the NeoSoul Keys for Kontakt Player? It says out of stock on the website.
It's back in stock
jamal i would like to ask what is your thoughts on the yamaha,MOXF as far as being in the church
Jamal, I noticed when you where in the Ep 2 on the MKSensation you moved the modulation wheel and the chorus came on, was that the original MKS chorus like the one on MKSensation? It didn't sound like it but maybe it's just my ears.
