McCall Point Trail is a popular hiking trail in the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon, known for its stunning views of the river and the surrounding Cascade Mountains. The trail is approximately 2.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of about 500 feet, making it a moderate hike suitable for most hikers. Weather conditions in the Columbia River Gorge can vary widely, so checking the forecast before you go is important. The trail is typically open year-round, but winter conditions can make it more challenging. Spring and fall are generally the most pleasant times to hike the trail, as the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller.
That's why Misha, the hiker, and Roman, the filmmaker, ventured on a springtime adventure along the McCall Point Trail on May 2, 2024. Their goal was to capture the vibrant wildflowers that bloom in the Columbia River Gorge. Unfortunately, a sudden downpour cut their journey short, but not before they witnessed a stunning display of balsamroot, lupine, and harsh paintbrush.
Adding a touch of intrigue to their exploration, they stumbled upon peculiar bentwood trees. As the day drew to a close, they were rewarded with a breathtaking sunset that painted the sky in hues of orange and purple.
To capture the stunning scenery, Khomlyak relied on his Sigma FP L camera, equipped with a versatile array of Canon EF lenses. His arsenal included the wide-angle Canon EF 16-35mm F/4L IS USM, the versatile Canon Ef 24-105mm F/4L IS USM, and the vintage Meyer Optik Gorlitz Trioplan 100/2.8. He also experimented with the AUTO-TAKUMAR 35MM F2.3, HELIOS 44-2 58MM F2, Sigma MC-21, and Fotodiox Pro Fusion Smart AF adapter to achieve unique perspectives and effects.
The video footage underwent meticulous cinematic color correction to enhance the natural beauty of the scene and create a visually stunning experience. This process involved adjusting the color balance, contrast, saturation, and other parameters to ensure that the colors accurately represent the scene and evoke the desired emotional response in the viewer.
