Mr David Wise - thank you so much for the music of my childhood. The whole Battletoads series are one of the best games I've ever played and I can still remember every single music track from all of these games.
it's a little bit difficult because games don't always list who did what, you see 2 or 3 composers on a game's credits, but then not what they did, some can be found with some research but it seems like others are nowhere to be found
I love the idea, but the other problem is that if you eliminate the 1 per franchise rule and make it 1 game rule instead, you have a few composers that were so entrenched in one series that half the compositions would be from that franchise that it would make more sense just to make it best of that franchise (ie. I bet Nobuo Uematsu's list would easily have 5/10 from Final Fantasy)
The entire list could be from Tropical Freeze imo. I mean, talk about creativity with the Frozen Fruits world of music. I've never heard anything like those songs, and they are amazing.

Also, some of the arrangements from Tropical Freeze have so much DKC2 callbacks, but with a much better sound quality, it's a treat to the ears!
DKC 1&2 are all-time best game soundtracks of all time. It's been like 30 years and that shit still slaps even outside of video games. We put it on in the house all the time.

Thats why I generalized my list, I figured anything haunted, spooky, creepy, etc; a music track you could easily play on Halloween, Friday the 13th, or during some type of horror marathon would be fair game.
It's a shame the Diddy Kong Racing music in this list isn't Darkmoon Carverns theme, which is much better. But I think was an amazing decision to choose Mining Melancholy instead Stickerbush Symphony in DKC 2. In my opinion, of course.
Great list. David Wise was the man. That Roger Rabbit track is a nice rendition. I remember seeing the movie again a few years ago, and immediately recognized the theme when Jessica confronts Eddie in his apartment. My personal favorite of Wise's work is the Stage 2/High Score theme from Super Glove Ball. It got that ethereal vibe like NES Tetris' "Theme 3," but with more punch.
So many tracks to choose from. How do you pick just 10? I'm not as familiar with his more recent work but it still sounds great from the few tracks I've heard. Seriously though I think I could easily create a Top 50 list. Some will say DKC 2 was his magnum opus and I agree. Every track from that game is amazing.

Music on carts really aren't compressed though. They can't be. Even compressed audio even for small audio bits take up large fractions of those cats. The infamous SEGA intro on Sonic takes up like half the cart space and it's only 3 seconds long. What's going on is much like Midi and sound card on a computer, strings of code are instructing the sound processor in the SNES to play specific notes, on specific channels, on specific settings, with specific effects like waves and fades. So with the code instructing the sound processor to play x sound, it's playing true audio, not compressed, and only just a few bites. As storage size increased in games, audio engineers no longer had to program the sound processor, and instead were able to use actual recorded audio and sample off that... Which were usually compressed. So in an ironic twist of fate, the bigger the storage limitations grew, the more often you'd find compressed audio.
Its always subjective, I dont expect all my suggestions on there, as some of my suggestions are Japan-Only and unheard of, but I throw them in anyways. Most of my video/computer game knowledge comes from C64, NES, SNES, and N64, the next person might know more about Playstation games, when Ive NEVER owned a Playstation in my lifetime and know little about the games themselves. Everyone has a different video/computer game background on here, so its always good to try to get everyone in on it, and being a good sport about what is finally picked.
you can download software titled "SNES SPC700 Player" and then download spc file from a place like zophar.net ... load the spc into the player and then you can improve the sample rate, bit rate and more... then export each individual track, load in multi-channel mixing software, mix the levels to how you want it. some people do this and then claim "remaster" and share the music files. i did it for a 10 second clip --- hope that helps

DKC2 just has too good of a soundtrack. Personally I'd go with Stickerbush Symphony or Lockjaw's Saga, not that Mining Melancholy is bad, it's up there too, but that whole soundtrack is like top 5 game soundtracks of all time That wouldn't be a bad list either, just probably more than top 5
I’d honestly put it in 2nd place, along with Forest Interlude, and Stickerbush Symphony/Underwater Ambience, in 1st place, but i definitely feel like Stickerbush Symphony, would beat out Underwater Ambience.
Man David Wise, is such a awesome, and cool dude like he really seems to enjoy his job when it comes to making music which gives me undying respect for the man, and when he dies just like Iwata, it isn’t going to be the same without him, plus he is no doubt one of the biggest figures in the video music composing business, and it clearly shows, but even though he has nothing to prove i feel he’s always trying to outdo himself to me anyway. That being said my top 3 picks i would have to say. Number 3: Fear Factory. Number 2: Forest Interlude/Minning Melancholy. Number 1: Stickerbush Symphony.
