You did nothing wrong and no one should force you to do anything that you are not comfortable with. Traditionally, it's more common for men to go public bath and hang out there; it's like a social event. They have tea afterwards and even play chess. I think the kind of spa that many do like is that you have your own area, where you do whatever you like, and then meet your friends afterwards in the common area with PJs. I have heard that some people hang out at these places all day because they serve food, very delicious food! Here is a good example from Amy in "Blondie in China." I think this is the kind of spa experience that may suit you better. ruclips.net/video/rTLDXED7V-c/видео.html I lived in Berlin at one point where people go naked in the public park doing sun-bathing. No one really cared. People in Denmark also have no fear of going naked in the public in the summertime. Cultural sensitivities are interesting. What's a taboo in one culture may not be the case in another.
We frequently visit the Qing He hot springs, I have a video about that one, be sure to check it out if you haven't yet, and there is one section off to the side of the dressing room that is specifically for the naked bathing, and I just avoid that area and go into the PJ area where we enjoy all the facilities. I've now become desensitized to everything and I'm not as shy anymore but I still try to change by half covering myself with my towel, and that's only because little kids are always looking at us, and I know it's only because they're looking at us as laowai..but I'm still a bit shy to whip out my fat ass in front of strangers 😂 ruclips.net/video/5jtQekcBMEY/видео.html
Public bathhouse with naked people is definitely a Northern China thing, people from Southern China (eg: Shanghai, Hongkong) would have a culture shock in this type of bathhouse.
@@nadineinchina I know people from Guangzhou goes to school in Shenyang had a similar meltdown in the bathhouse, and made video about it. By the way, you are stunningly beautiful, I would be struggling to control myself beside you.
Culture shock stories are funny. Its a self reflections looking at own frail nature and insecurities. Being vulnerable in the mirror vs public gaze makes one imagine how other perception can stir crazy ones paranoia of oneself, place in the world or day to day values and activities.

Accept if you like it, reject it if you don’t like it. Many of my friends like to go to the public bathhouse to take a bath together. They used to ask me to come together. But after being rejected by me many times, they stopped calling. Other things have not changed
@@nadineinchina I am from harbin, the capital of heilongjiang province. There are a lot of public bathhouses too. When I was a boy, china was in such poverty that a lot of people did not even have chances to take a shower for a long time in winter. In Germany you can see a lot of naked people at the beach and sometimes in the park. When I first came to Germany to study, I even saw female students naked sunbathing on the school lawn.
I once met a German girl while traveling in Seoul. She loved going to the bath houses and I was very surprised by it. She told me it's quite normal in Germany 😝 I mean, i wish i was THAT comfortable in my own body to be naked everywhere😄😄
@@nadineinchina In Germany, especially in the summer in the East German region, you have to get used to suddenly encountering naked people lying on the grass while walking in the park. You also have to get used to families who are naked and playing together on the beach. Don't worry though, Germans won't force you to be naked, they'll just make you feel a little awkward about being not naked in certain places.
Fun story! So have you never ever gone back to a bath house again? With all these years in China, surely, you would have gotten more invites and became comfortable with getting naked at the bathhouses
Never went back to a bath house but I've been to the Hot Springs many times and other indoor and outdoor pool places that has showers and locker areas requiring you to undress infront of others and I've somewhat adapted to it.
