The thermal paste is what I've always referred to as: Heat sink paste. You are absolutely right in the amount you apply, and what its job is. My first use of the paste was in 1977 - Horizontal Output Transistor in an old Magnavox TV - along with a mica insulator. (a "Maggie"; loved 'em; kept me in business for a LONG time. :-) Thanks, Brian, great information.

Screw Organizer was a great idea! im gonna gladly steal it! thnx man! just started working with repairing laptops. i use a white working bench and that helps alot, and if the bench is other color i recomend puting the screws on a white paper

I plan to apply thermal paste after the warranty on my Dell expires in 2014. Usually, how long does thermal paste last?

Sure Ed, I was thinking I could do that sometime. I always like looking at others work spaces, especially if they are in the electronics repair business. Great idea Ed, will do.
