Thank you for your patience these last couple weeks as I have secretly toiled behind the scenes on this project (All 5 parts are done). Let me start by saying that this series is intended to raise the bar on all coverage regarding Cannae. The script was sourced from four authors and is over 16 pages long. In all aspects I have sought to make the content as accurate as possible! The Rome II engine and mods such as Divide et Impera have allowed me to realize this goal. I hope you enjoy, stay tuned for more! (Also the Punic War series will continue after this)
I wish you many views so that you can not only continue to create more amazing series of vides but also for others to experience this great documentary. Words can not describe how happy I am you made this.
"lying in the pool of their own blood.." me: *hmm.. such gloriouos* '.. and vomit.." me: * huh? * " ..and feces.. " me: *lol wut?!* mass shitting on the battlefield.
Forget about all the negative reviews man, you did a stellar job. I hope you make MANY more documentaries like like so myself and my kids can learn. I say you have ingeniously merged this PC game with visual history in a fantastic way. Please give us more on more topics. Please use mods on steam as well.
Couch ! Now they do reality shows and other crap. I used to love the channel, I wonder if it ever die since it's longer what brought it to prominence in the first place.
Absolutely brilliant, great work. Such an in-depth and well made piece. I especially like the human element you've kept throughout it, whether it being the soldiers perspective or the reminders of what war actually is, even though it was over 2000 years ago the experiences are still the same. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man, I think the human element is perhaps the most important part of history that must be kept alive. Without understanding that any of the participants could just as easily have been you, history is reduced to numbers and figures
I just came across your channel, and wow, the quality of your productions is amazing. Well sourced material with the added help of Total War animations (perfectly executed I might add), makes this the best channel to breath and live historic battles such as this! Keep up the great work!
I have watched all of your 'documentary' videos and I've got to say I absolutely love them! Your research and the quality of these videos is overwhelmingly amazing. At first I was put off by your narration, however, I quickly came to enjoy it because it has an Everyman quality about it and it makes it that much more 'real.' Seriously, thank you for this. I can't wait to see more.
You know what I was really skeptical of these videos being shit but holy fucking shit dude it's really good. I take Roman classics alongside energy at university and surprisingly this is a really good revision tool. 10/10
That's awesome, really awesome series man, you should do another if you want, i think Teutoberg would be good, or Carrah (I hope that's spelled right) anyways those are just my ideas, have a good one.
Please make one about the battle of Thermopylae, Marathon, and even some of Attila the Huns exploits. If I'm craving it then so must be thousands of other history buffs.
Wow, this is amazing, brilliant editing and clips used from the game, and for educational purposes! Who said video games didn't teach you history HAHA, this is awesome!
spartan5536 its always a work in progress and I believe the script is usually the part that needs the most development. If you take a look at my first documentary from the Punic Wars series you will see that this is a huge step up, but I can still improve by leaps and bounds
Absolutely awesome work. These videos really deserve to be seen, thank you for taking the time and effort to do them. Will you make more videos of ancient battles?
Could you do one of these about Octavians actions and campaigns after Caesar's assassination? I try to recreate the period in my Rome DLCs. It took me 4 years to complete Caesar in Gaul because the AI doesn't always like to cooperate with history
THEF Productions, you say in your commen that you had a script 16 pages long made from four authors? Could you cite a few specific books? I would like to begin reading about ancient cultures and I think the Punic wars would probally be a good place to start. Would you mind listing some?
Sworn an oath at only age 9, to fight the Romans to kill or die, at the battle of Cannae, legions of Romans were slain. We take no prisoners no quarter given, in a rout our enemies are driven. For the siege of Rome we fight, we'll take to plunder every city in sight. :)
Invicta thank you so much for this excellent playlist!! One thing (and this may just be my RUclips n00bishness) - the playlist (Classical Antiquity (Documentaries): ruclips.net/p/PLkOo_Hy3liEJYEQ23l6bDrFrQYdkoZ3BC ) seems to be in reverse order and I can't figure out how to change that. I can enable shuffling of videos, but what I really want is to play them all in the correct order (e.g. Battle of Cannae Part 2/5 after Part 1/5). At the moment, if I play I have to manually play the next video. Any advice? Thanks again!
Found a more efficient solution for now - I used Amit Agarwal's RUclips Playlist copier ( ctrlq.org/youtube/playlists/ ) which was recommended by LifeHacker ( lifehacker.com/copy-youtube-playlists-pulls-another-users-playlists-t-1457077411 ) to take a copy of this playlist, then I ordered the videos chronologically. Playlist link, for anyone who's interested: ruclips.net/p/PLTsnNK-n4jm43B1mAPXvrUmEeplEtw0Fo
I am a dolphin if the Roman side had 80 000 of warriors! Do you know that at rise Roman Empire around all the world what they had were just 28 legions?
+Владислав Демьянчук Those 28 legions (plus dozens of cohorts of auxiliaries) weren't fighting a major war against an equal of Rome, they were on garrison duty.
+Владислав Демьянчук Its actually estimated that the Roman army during the imperial age was around 300,000 strong. It should also be remembered that these troops would be spread out in garrisons, only mustering together in large numbers for big fights.
THFE Productions I write just about what I know about war in different times and ages. As for first, people who had written about big battles, often was borned many years after! Second, - medieval battles were much smaller, than the ancient! Can you explain how it can be possible? At last - no one can't to know number of soldierds on both sides. P.S. My English is poor, sorry.
+Владислав Демьянчук The medieval states were a lot less centralized and with a much less developed administration than the ancient empires, especially Rome. It wasn't until about the 1600s that the European governments had centralized enough to establish the efficient administration that is required to armies of that size. The ancient and medieval military systems were completely different. The medieval kingdoms were simply not organized effectively enough to extract all potential resources and consequently lacked sufficient resources to field tens of thousands of trained troops.
Do you have a speech impediment? I notice you seem to stutter on some of the words and sentences. Either way, the video was done very well. I wish you'd make a series covering the second punic war.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. Compared to your previous series on the first punic wars, I think you did a much better job on this one. The your explanations seem a bit more fluid and natural. Your previous series seemed to have a few awkward phrases where it seemed like you were unsure of how to pronounce something and kinda stuttered a little. This series was amazing though. I was a big fan of the old History Channel series that used the first Rome engine, but honestly they did a TERRIBLE job of using the game to actually reflect the voice-over. Your videos however, do a much better job. In your videos I actually get the sense that what I'm seeing matches what you're saying, and that's NOT something I often felt when watching those Decisive Battles shows. They did a terrible job using the game. I look forward to checking out all your other videos. I also like how you make frequent references to the historical sources that you get your troop numbers from, as well as all the references to modern historians and their thinking on these events. My favorite is Don Kagan, though I don't know if he's ever lectured about Rome or Carthage. I hope you might do some series on the Peloponnesian war I would really enjoy that.
Thanks! I try and make every video better than the last and couldn't improve so much without all the awesome feedback from you guys. Let me know what you think of the latest video on Adrianople I just put out!
bahahahaha that guy's beard at 34 seconds looks like someone took the spraypaint feature from MS paint and went to town. graphics look like crap even on their own production movies!
hey, so I was really tempted to keep you guys updated on this but went dark. I like being mysterious when it comes to these projects as it allows me to work at my own pace and without too much pressure. In any case, all 5 parts have been completed already and I will be releasing them in quick succession! enjoy
The United States is 100% a European society build on European ideology by European people, they even speak a European language (English). Tunisia is an Arabic country, Carthage was a Phoenician city (country). it was destroyed in 146BC by the Romans who subsequently colonized it until it was occupied by Arabs and colonized for the third time by the current people of Tunisia. Carthaginians were a Phoenician people whose homeland is in the eastern Mediterranean, Syria, Israel and parts of Cyprus. It’s historical fact, it’s not an opinion. Phoenician language is similar to Hebrew.
Carthaginians were a Phoenician colony. Phoenicians were a people who originally came from Syria and Lebanon. To put it into perspective, they would be similar to English speaking people of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States...etc who originally migrated out of England, Phoenicians also originally migrated out of what is modern day Syria and Lebanon. Carthaginians were not Tunisians, they were Phoenicians. The Phoenician language is similar to Hebrew and it is a Semitic Canaanite language. The Native people of Tunisia are people like Berber.
This documentary on Cannae gets 5-Stars. Seriously. Production quality that surpasses some (if not most) History channel budget-docs. Good detail from the historical side of things without getting too long. The first-person camera is what sets this one apart - that part was amazing for immersion! Bravo! And to remember that humans fought, suffered and died in this battle shows that you see beyond the pornography of war which Total War fans enjoy.
This was pretty well done. My only suggestion is to not skimp on the audio editing. A few times you stammer, say "uh" or otherwise misspeak! Re-record those lines! The is an audio-visual presentation, after all. Don't spend all that time on the visual aspect to only do a half-measure when it comes to narration.
I find the voice-over to be very good. Sure there's the odd pause, but it comes nowhere close to being a problem or distracting (for me at least). Some other creators' videos have excessive cuts in the audio track, which are obvious and much more distracting (again, to me).
These video's of Total War History are a really cool idea. You should definetly persue this a little more. I would very much like to hear your take on maters of Mythodical Greeks. Maybe the Trojan War would be an epic one to venture to if possible. Very Good Mate!
Like others have said your research and attention to detail in these are really really good and are better than some other history docs on YT. The way that you assemble it all together with Total War is awesome and as I am pretty new to the TW party, just started playing, but love history documentaries I will be watching them all, thanks a lot. History AND Total War?? My two favourite things combined... I love this channel
Forget about all the negative reviews man, you did a stellar job. I hope you make MANY more documentaries like like so myself and my kids can learn. I say you have ingeniously merged this PC game with visual history in a fantastic way. Please give us more on more topics. Please use mods on steam as well.
You had me at feces.....
+Jeffrey Toman Shit happens
You are doing a wonderful work THFEProductions. :)

Did you just compare the history channel to this?
This is hundred times better.
Sondar12 History channel used to do stuff this good in the 00's. :/
Couch !
Now they do reality shows and other crap. I used to love the channel, I wonder if it ever die since it's longer what brought it to prominence in the first place.

Holy crap man this was so awesome
Thanks for sharing your great knowledge with us!
I have watched all of your 'documentary' videos and I've got to say I absolutely love them! Your research and the quality of these videos is overwhelmingly amazing. At first I was put off by your narration, however, I quickly came to enjoy it because it has an Everyman quality about it and it makes it that much more 'real.'
Seriously, thank you for this. I can't wait to see more.
thanks for your support : )
Watching these videos over and over again, keep up the great work.
I remember those older documentaries using ROME total war 1 like this, but... Oh my god this looks far better. Good job!
Well done! This home movie is actually the best coverage of this battle I have seen so far. Thank you!
Haha awesome! Moar moar! Like how this channel is going. Keep up the good work bro. Makes history so much more immersive.

I love that you always put a lot of context into the narration. gonna watch the rest now!
You know what I was really skeptical of these videos being shit but holy fucking shit dude it's really good. I take Roman classics alongside energy at university and surprisingly this is a really good revision tool. 10/10

That's awesome, really awesome series man, you should do another if you want, i think Teutoberg would be good, or Carrah (I hope that's spelled right) anyways those are just my ideas, have a good one.
good stuff, really cool. played a few strategy games, but tying in the history really makes it watchable and meaningful. good job, cool
Hey glad you're alive, man.
Please make one about the battle of Thermopylae, Marathon, and even some of Attila the Huns exploits. If I'm craving it then so must be thousands of other history buffs.
Holy fuckin shit dude, awesome content.
It's best phrased as: "One more victory and we are undone!!"
Wow, this is amazing, brilliant editing and clips used from the game, and for educational purposes! Who said video games didn't teach you history HAHA, this is awesome!
The only complaint I notice, is that every once in a while you pause or mess up a little bit when reading your script
spartan5536 its always a work in progress and I believe the script is usually the part that needs the most development. If you take a look at my first documentary from the Punic Wars series you will see that this is a huge step up, but I can still improve by leaps and bounds
THFE Productions yeah I agree, and that's the only complaint if I where forced to say one, but it is very good though! keep it up! +1 Subscriber!
That looks like a lot of work. Very well done, too. Kudos.
Interesting and concise. Great work mate.
"As soon as age allows I shall arrest the destiny of Rome!" Hannibal Barca, aged 9 years.
This is really well done. Thank you very much!
Absolutely awesome work.
These videos really deserve to be seen, thank you for taking the time and effort to do them.

+egw esu I had to record most of the clips from in battle
THFE Productions damn, that must have been time-consuming...
Stay strong :p
Inspired me to do this on Europa Barbarorum!
Could you do one of these about Octavians actions and campaigns after Caesar's assassination? I try to recreate the period in my Rome DLCs. It took me 4 years to complete Caesar in Gaul because the AI doesn't always like to cooperate with history
Do I need permission to show these on a large screen before Phi Alpha Theta Club at the local University?
Hey i was think it'd be amazing if you could recreate the battle of Brávellir.
Great Work !
THANK YOU
Awesome videos, dude! Behind the scenes possibly?

THFE Productions Do the reconquests of Belissarius too!

very awesome but also carthage and rome had an alliance vs Phyrus
THEF Productions, you say in your commen that you had a script 16 pages long made from four authors? Could you cite a few specific books? I would like to begin reading about ancient cultures and I think the Punic wars would probally be a good place to start. Would you mind listing some?

My birthday is August 2nd dafuq? So I celebrate the day 50,000 men died....
I like to play as Rome everywhere, but i hate it´s fabricated so
called history.

It's identical if not better than a NatGeo, Military History, or History Channel Documentary on the subject. Nice work.
