    Japanese here.
    About the fortune.
In Japan if you get the
大吉 the best fortune many ppl will not be happy with it. Best fortune means that you are at the peak and from this time on it can only get worse. On the other hand bad or worst fortune大凶or凶 has a meaning that it can only get better from now on.
Many Japanese people like half fortune since there is still chance to improve.

Oh, Tokyo really looks amazing. Möhöhö. I still remember that uber delicious looking thing called "sweet potato crunch". That cake seems to be just super nice as well. I love the plushies. But the main event food is always the last thing on a plate i go for as well. 🤗

So glad you guys tried Meijiya (Blue Cheese Beef Cutlet)... That's my favorite in Asakusa... I fight myself every time not to buy more than one. And he always gives the free wine. he gives it to me every time I stop by.

So much fun to see where you end up each week! Love all the fried foods, listening to you crunching down, I’m wishing I was there too, lol. Deana, love fortune games too, I had this one as a kid, not as fancy of course. Happy you cleared yourself with incense and tried again in the beautiful temple receiving a positive message😉. Thanks Deana and Phil for the tour, always enjoy the places you share. Note: Ahh Sa Koo Sa. It’s really hard to learn so many unfamiliar names from other cultures, for myself the worse is when I tried to pronounce a friends husbands name, eyes wide open they said, don’t call him anything, apparently I said his mother was a whore…egads😜. 💕👍

Every time you say Asakusa I think you're saying Bad Sachsa and think "Wait, they're in the Harz? I thought they were in Japan!" 😆

I was so excited when I tried japanese beer for the first time...and was slightly disappointed that it tasted just like the usual Pils. Did some research and, who'd've thought, beer was introduced to Japan by Germans. 😂😂😂

Yoshiwara and Kabukichō are the pleasure districts for Tokyo although they aren’t what they used to be yoshiwara became a regular neighborhood after a massive fire in 1657 and moved to its current location. Kabukicho is full of mostly pachinko parlors and host/ hostess bars. Hosts/ hostesses mostly are dressed up people that make talk with clients while they drink. Most if not all their clientele are businessmen who are taking a prospective client to talk business over drinks or are housewives needing a night out. Honestly the host job is a good one just it’s not exactly looked on with favor. It’s not really sex work but more like a step up from wait staff. It’s usually a good way to earn money in a hurry as you bounce from table to table. Clients pay up the nose for the people they like. Prostitution was outlawed and banned years ago in Japan. Gambling is also outlawed, pachinko parlors sidestep the law by saying they are “arcades” as they allow people to win prizes although they can win cash if they get the right prize to trade for real cash.

A lot of Japanese sweets aren’t really that sweet. They are more neutral flavors that aren’t very strong like sweet potato which beyond its sweet what else is there, chestnut is fairly neutral flavor as it’s not very strong, and red bean paste has some sugar but what else as it’s just beans underneath. You have to peel back every layer and unravel each flavor to figure it out. It’s a slow process but you learn each flavor and why it’s there. I’ve done that a few times as my dad is a chef and he basically told me to recreate a dish from taste alone as he didn’t know what a certain dish was. It wasn’t hard I nailed every single ingredient in perfect harmony. It’s something that nobody can teach just its instinct and knowing what is around to cook.

Ordinary Japanese people, including myself, use Google ratings in the following way. We arbitrarily give low ratings to restaurants that we like or don't want to be crowded. I think this is a common behavior around the world, but I often go to restaurants that have been given low ratings. The restaurant rarely disappoints me.

Deanna you reminded me why I didn’t want to watch your vlog again it’s your “oh you took the delicious part”, “oh you ate the top part”, “oh you ate a lot” like seriously let Phil eat want he wants to eat. If you can’t take that then don’t share your food and get one for you. Unsubscribing thanks
