- Welcome to my channel! In this video, I’m taking you along with me as I build my dream terrarium. I’ve always wanted to have a fairy garden setup but never had the proper place for one.
After visiting a local garden center, and seeing their setup, I decided right then and there I was going to set one up.
This fairy garden will be contained in a terrarium. I’ve used a 20 gallon aquarium for this build.
Some plants that will be in this are begonias, Fittonias, and pinguiculas, also known as pings or butterworts.
I hope you enjoy watching the creation of my dream terrarium.
Thanks so much for watching 💚.

This turned out so wonderful. It feels very magical, like a person just left the main structure to go pick flowers and will be back soon.
That’s how I feel about it too 🥰. Thanks!!!💚💚💚
Omg!!!! I absolutely love your creation! Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!!! Thank you for watching :).
This tiny World looks very cute.
Thank you, Conny 💚💚💚.
I absolutely adore the way this turned out; it's breathtaking! I have really been wanting to put one together for my plant room but I never knew where to start; so thank you for showing your process it is going to be so helpful to come back and reference this 🙏
I cant wait for updates on this terrarium and your cute little pings 💚
Hi!!! Thank you so much!!!! So far this terrarium has been doing amazingly well. Things are growing like crazy, including the pings...I love them so much :). I will definitely be giving periodic updates. You can see some updates already in a few of my videos I've made after this one. Thanks again :).
it looks awesome!! well done ..🪴🌿🍄
Thank you, Maria!!!!💚💚💚
Thank you so much for sending me the link to this video. I have the 20 gallon long tank which is not as high bit but longer in length. Better for my arms. Looking forward to cleaning my aquarium tank, getting rid of the sand (never use for fish, always looked dirty and when cleaning sand the siphon sucked sand up.) Your steps were excellent and loved how beautiful the fairy garden came out.
Yay...have fun setting it up!!! I have very much enjoyed having this terrarium. Thanks, Paula!!!!
It's incredible! You really did a fabulous job! I'd love to do something like this but all my 5 aquariums are occupied by fish. Lol.
Wow 5!!!! Awesome!!!! I am a big fan 🐠. Thank you sooo much 💚💚💚.
This is so lovely, great job! 💖
Thank you so much!!
@@ThePinkTrellis you are welcome dear 🤗💖
How lovely and so YOU! I’m planning one myself as soon as I find the right container.
Thank you so much 💚💚💚. I’m always looking at glass containers at the thrifts. I’d like to have a little collection of terrarium jars. I hope you find your vessel soon 😊.
You did a great job it looks awesome. 👍
Thanks, Anita!!!!
It’s very cute.
Thanks, Patti!!!!
I LOVEthis. Mine is so boring just plants and soil. I did add a little spag on top. More because it was just used spag. I did not feel like drying it out. Thanks for sharing. I might pick up some cute things to add to mine. I did have a knom garden in my yard so I might put it in my 20 gal tank. Not even sure I can get to those pieces for awhile with the snow and where they are stored in my shed.
Oh cool, do you have a video that shows your 20g tank? I’ll have to go look 😊. Thank you 💚💚💚.
I love how your fairy garden turned out. It looks like a place I’d like to shrink myself down to and visit!
Agreed! We just have to watch out for the carnivorous plants 😂. Thanks, Karen 💚💚💚.
@@ThePinkTrellis 🤣😂oh yeah, I never thought about that.
Your fairy garden turned out so beautiful Gena. 😊 If I were the fairy I would take a nap all the time in that pink fittonia 🧚🏼♀️💖
@@elanor9353 perfect spot!!! Thank you 💕.
I absolutely LOVE it!! The Ping's are so neat, my husband is into carnivorous plants. Maybe once my last 2 fish go to heaven I could make something for carnivorous plants?? Fun video Gena 😄
Hi, Jamie!!! Thank you!!!! You should when the time comes. Glad you enjoyed it 💚💚💚.
Came out amazing!! It's magical to create one!
Thank you!!! 💚💚💚

Hi pretty lady, loved your dream coming alive. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. Enjoyed your step by step process. My husband was fascinated with the ping plants. I hope you have a wonderful week ❤
Hi, Sylvia!!! Thank you so much!!!! I hope you have a great week too 💚💚💚.
Hi Gena … That’s a really awesome fairy garden. You got me wanting one now Lol!! Ty for sharing!
Hi, Rosemary!!! Thank you and thanks for watching 💚💚💚.
Very Cute! Love Fairy Gardens!
Thank you!!!! Me too, obviously 😊. I may try to set something up outside this summer. But the decor isn’t cheap, so I may just have to be satisfied with this. Thanks again 💚💚💚.
Wow that is soo beautiful
I stare at it constantly 😊. Thank you Araceli!!!! 💚💚💚
So whimsical and enchanting, I love it!
Thanks, Paul 💚💚💚
Wow I have to made myself one love love ❤
Yay!!!! I hope you do 😊. They are mesmerizing.
Gena what a relaxing and fun video to watch! You got some great deals on supplies and the end result is enchanting and magical!
Hi, Molly!!!! Thank you!!!💚💚💚
@@ThePinkTrellis 🙂👍
It turned out so cute! I especially like the pink Fittonia and the adorable Pinguicula. Love it! ❤
Hi, Karen!!! Thank you 💚💚💚.
It looks beautiful Gena! Glad you’re happy with it. It’s definitely something I would love to try but right now space is limited. Thanks for sharing your process with us.
Hi, Lynn!!! Thank you so much 💚💚💚. If I had more space I’d set up a few more 😊. Thanks for watching!!!!
Oh my goodness, the little ping flower!!! I am OBSESSED! I am always looking at mushroom garden inspo for a future plant set up I hope to build one day and this is really close to what I would want. Pilea peperomioides would be so cute in there too if you ever want to add some different height values. So obsessed, Gena!😍😍
Hi, Sera!!!! You’re right, a pilea peperomiodes would be so cute in there. If I ever change things up, I’ll definitely consider one of those. I’m hoping the begonias will eventually give me the height I’m looking for. 🍄 obsessed here, glad I’m not the only one 😊. They are just so cute!!!! Thanks for watching 💚💚💚.
Great work Gena! The fairies will love their new residence ! Love it 😍
And the gnomes too 😂. Thanks Duncan 💚💚💚.
One of the things you can do to keep up humidity is to put a plastic bottle cut off big enough. You can drop an air stone down in it with an air hose and fill it with water. You usually do this first so that you can hide the bottle completely with the plants and you fill it with water when you’re done and drop the air stone down in and it will bubble keep it full of water provide a humidity to the air in the tank.
That sounds like a great idea!!!! I’ll use it if I end up having issues with humidity. Thanks so much!!!!
Your hair is so pretty!! Reminds me of a fairy :) I absolutely love fairy gardens, I had one last year but most of it ended up dying in winter (they were annuals) I never thought to make one in a tank, it turned out so beautifully! So adorable :) thanks for bringing us along!
You are so sweet….thank you ❤️❤️❤️. I may try an outdoor fairy garden this year 😊.
Wow! Fantastic job! I'm afraid the maintenance would be too much for me 😆 but it sure looks nice!
Thank you!!!! I think I’ll be trimming things frequently 😊.
It's beautiful!!!
I made one in a 2 gallon jar and now I want a big one.
I want mine to be kind of a geisha/ oriental theme.
That would be so awesome!!!! Thank you 💚💚💚.
Dollar store has rocks
Good to know! I'll have to take a look at what they have. Thanks for the tip!
I loved this vide. You did a wonderful job. It is precious. How did your Pings do? I was wondering how you built that retaining wall. It added so much to the set up. I am in the process of making a lava rock Ping set up I've always grown them in pots with trays of water. Please show an updated video. Blessings to you from Texas.
Hi! Thank you!!! Glad you enjoyed it. The pings continue to do really well in there. The retaining wall is just some rocks I bought at Lowe’s glued to a plastic sticky tape. It seems to be holding up really well!!! I’ll include the terrarium in my next monthly plant update. Thanks for watching and commenting 💚💚💚.
I look forward to an update. Thanks for the tip on the retainer wall blessings

Yes, I built mini fairy gardens. My favorite one was a big round washtub that had developed a slight leak which I filled with silicone. He gave me the most space for a little paths to go through the fairy garden. PS if you go to the pet store again, you can look for glass lids for your terrarium. I always just seem to use lids from storage boxes and build another fairy garden in the lid that I place upside down because you know why wouldn’t you have a two-story fairy garden?
Oh wow that sounds awesome!!!! Thanks for the tips 😊.
Past summer, I got a 20gal “kit” at a pet store for $200. I wish I got for $50! It is still in the box😅. I love the trellis, walkway and how Marilyn was watching you build with approving smile.
Thank you 💚💚💚. What was/is your plan for the aquarium? I’m a big fish tank lover too, currently have a saltwater aquarium running. It’s 10 gallons.
I’m too novice to try saltwater.I was thinking of getting a divider and getting 2beta fish. I use to not like them as a child. I was told they were fighters. Now, in my 50sI see often in stores in a tiny cup. They look so sad. No room to swim. then I see other pretty fish and thought perhaps a community tank. Even the modern look of just schools of rummmy nose tetras looks so pretty. I need to decide soon.
@@asianangie7209 I love freshwater community tanks! I love any type of aquarium, they are all so soothing :).
I think I did one on the first time I put it together. Later I traded it out for a 10 gallon thrifted tank. Now back to the 20. Nothing in it as far as decor other then a few rocks . I am oretty sure I know where my fairy garden stuff is I just can not get to it until the snow melts. It is in the center of my long narrow garden shed I think I called it the metal monstrosity. LOL I built it all out of dump shopped metal pieces. Painted it all purple.
Sounds like an awesome shed! 💜
Where do you get sheet moss? Your terrarium is very inspirational..best constructed i have ever seen...many look messy, but yours is amazing! I have been searching for that more pink 💗 fittonia, but have not seen anywhere..where did you purchase?
Where did you get the arbor?
The sheet moss I found on Amazon. This is the one I purchased, but there are others:

The pink Fittonia I found at my local Ace Hardware!!!! I was so excited to find it 😊.
The arbor I found on Etsy.
Thank you!!!! 💕💕💕
I love fairy gardens and your’s is gorgeous! How did you make the rock walls?
Hi, Dorothy!!! For both the retaining wall and the rock wall, I used rocks and water-proof glue. The retaining wall I glued to a flexible piece of plastic so that I could shape it as needed. Thank you 💚💚💚.
@@ThePinkTrellis thank you so much for responding and letting me know. Best, Dottie
It is absolutely enchanting Gena! I look forward to updates on the growth, especially the fittonia, I’m curious how it will spread.
My dad has recently given me a 100 gallon tank that he used as one of his salt water tanks when I was a kid and I plan on using it as a terrarium. Your video is helping me get my creative juices flowing, thank you 💚
Hi, Sherry!!!! Thank you 💚💚💚. You could do soooo much with a 100 gallon tank. If I had the space, I’d do another 😊.
Wow Gena. This is stunning, creative, and simply fun!! I have never watched one put together before. So very interesting. I did not even know what a "ping" was!! So neat!! Love it.
May I ask the light you used in the other video? it went across the top and was on a stand? I need something like that for my "baby or pre-natal" greenhouse that I am creating. :-)
I love love love this so much!!! So creative!!
Thanks Tamra!!! Let me look up that light and I'll link it for you here in a bit :).

@@ThePinkTrellis Thank you so much!!
@@ThePinkTrellis Thanks!!!
I believe Pinguicula can not be planted in the substrate with nutrients. It can only be watered with rain water or purified water (less than 50ppm). How are you going to fertilize and water all other plants ?
Hi, Mandy! So the pings have a very shallow root system, and I planted them in a substrate with basically no nutrients. It’s peat, sand, and perlite. They will not touch any of the other soil in the terrarium as they are isolated from the rest. It won’t be an issue with the other plants.
@@ThePinkTrellis I am wanting to put pings in my terrarium also. I was worried the different care requirements. I planted them in their own cup without holes.
