Its the AEG. Most trackers count *every* bit of climb you do. This peak is just short of 6400ft, and you're gaining most every bit of that in a few miles. Basically it averages out to around 1000ft per mile.
sitting here at 60yrs old and wishing these kind of adventures were more readily known in my time. Great stuff and keep going. One day, your bodies will not be able to do these things so make all the time you can worth it.Love watching your videos and it inspires me to do all that I can.
I'm 35 with an absolute blowout of a knee. I used to do things like this, so this is my favorite way of reminiscing. That's why we love these guys and their excellent lust for adventure!
I'm 59 and spent the '80's, 90's and early 2000's doing what these guys do. Not at the the level of MA but not too far behind. My knees are not doing well, tomorrow I will try and do a hike to see how the left knee is fairing. I did a 12 mile hike 2 months ago and the left one went out at the end. I love these guys, brings back the joy of mountains.
Im 18 about to be 19 and im thankful that I recognized the value of youth early. (Not currently do to rona) I travel the world for very cheap by hitchhiking and sleeping in hostels, ti know i wouldnt want to do any of that in my 50s
Sorry to hear you’re not able to these things anymore Gregg. At 59, I’m ramping up and getting faster and taking on longer day as the months progress. Not at the level of these guys yet, but hoping to get there. We did do a 26 km, 2659 m three peak day this summer. But it took 12.5 hrs. I went plant based food at the beginning of the year and I think that’s helping. Hopefully your health improves.
@@alane3983 wow you're doing very well for 59 if you're able to perform at that level. I've been thinking of switching to a plant based diet since we've all gone inside this year. I'm curious why you attribute your improvements to the dietary change. It's one of the reasons I'd like to make the switch.
Seeing all the guys with their Black Diamond poles reminds me of the video with "Fat Weesy" Blake where Danny called poles a "gateway gear to like big rimmed hats and vented shirts. Blake is well on his way to just giving it all up and becoming an old man who doesn’t run but can power walk like the best of them". The point is this...we still miss Blake, but we can see his impact even when he's not with the guys.
“Me, blake and his two poles are going to hike up...” 😂😂😂 whatever happened to blake i never saw an official statement from him or danny on what happened
I’ve literally been binge watching all your videos and now you upload how perfect. You guys are really the reason I climb mountains and want to get out there and see more of them. Keep up the amazing work maybe one day we can hike together.
You should check out Foresty Forest channel. He's a Canadian guy living in his mini van but, every video he goes out and climbs a new peak. Many haven't been climbed in decades (or at least the log books suggest this). Some great climbs for sure. Plus, his slow-cooker cooking is a running joke on the channel.
@@donkEEpunch85 hehe another Foresty fan here, he is great guy that makes very entertaining videos in awesome scenery and remote corners where almost no one goes
One thing that makes the three of you such capable mountaineers is your confidence and determination, which is clearly visible on the north peak. No hesitating or rubber necking. Christoph as backup, in case you might have an incident, was a good component. Thanks for an extraordinary excursion.
Another killer hike. I did about 8.5 miles and 4,000 ft of climbing in Wyoming in August, so I'm getting tired out just watching this one! I'm guessing these guys are about my age, and I marvel at how they still have the knees to do all the running that they do. (I gave up running for biking and swimming a while back.) Those trekking poles can really make a difference though.
My favorite days are the days that you guys post new content. I'll visit Alaska and Denali sometime soon but won't be able to experience it the way that you guys did. Thanks for taking us all along for the ride to see something we otherwise wouldn't have. Keep up the awesome vids.
North Pioneer Peak is "not just a little scramble", it is a serious climb, one that requires thought and careful consideration. As motivational and excited as this group of guys are, please don't fall into the trap of climbing this peak thinking that it is no big deal. And yes i agree, it is truly impressive what these guys did.
This is the type of country and terrain I used to love albeit in the Alps and Scotland but now at 81 I did my last ridge scramble a year ago and sadly, as bionic hips and knees have not arrived now I can only look back on it and enjoy these videos.
Omg you guys hit my old stomping grounds. Many times flying into base camp to climb denali in the 1990s. Also going to portage glacier usually to climb or ski on byron glacier. 3 attempts on pioneer peak over the years in the early spring till i finally summited. Im sure the alaska range is next for you guys !! Cant wait to see the video of that !
Awesome to see a fresh take on a classic southcentral scramble... I saw this in my feed and clicked right away!! And you're right... that was some great, non typical weather xD
Curses. That’s where I left my backpack. The one I carried the typewriter for the note and that damned PVC pipe. Some amazing footage. I’d been looking for bald eagles. Matt - look up. Don’t be so worried about the bears.
Christof I can relate, I have these friends that when you spend all day skinning to some remote hut and you just want to relax, have a beer and enjoy the view they try to squeeze in just one more run, exhausting but in the end always enjoyable! :)
Wow you guys are so amazing! Thanks for taking us in your pocket on these journeys! Love the humor and energy you have. Stay safe and keep sharing your adventures.
Your cinematography just gets better and better. I started binging your vids a month or two ago, just incredible and inspiring. And as a fellow filmmaker pretty darned impressive!
You guys are truly inspiring. This channel is so motivating. You helped me complete 6 of the 9 Idaho 12ers, and 3 state high points (Kings, Borah, Granite) this year. Many more planned for next climbing season. Much respect, you guys are nothing short of amazing. Hope to see you on the trails on of these days. Keep up the great content.

Stumbled onto your channel a week or so back, have been watching since then. Excellent videos, love your sense of adventure/humor and certainly appreciate the hard work that goes into creating these videos. Please keep it up, you are certainly motivating my daughter and I to train and to do a Grand Canyon Rim to Rim in February. I do miss Blake and was shocked to find an old video where he didn't complain about being sick.
That is one of the mountains in my backyard playground! Glad you guys hit up the Chugach Range; there isn't a single mountain back there that isn't a treat to climb.
I climbed this with two friends about 30 years ago. My friends did not attempt the true summit. I used a rope to rap down a short distance and reached the true summit alone. There was a set of moose antlers on the summit! Great memory.
*No, You! screamed like a school girl when you saw the new video update.* 😅 Either way I told the boss I'm going on break. I may some explaining to do when I get back. *Thank you for posting this video for us that are chained to the rat race at the moment.* Take Care & Safe Travels Everyone!
Wow that looked beautiful. Thanks for the awesome video. In the alps, we also had awesome weather for most of September. The allowed some longer outings in the past weekends, e.g. Hausstock by fair means (about 17 miles, 9000' vert, T5 scramble on the european scale). Now the weather has changed and it is snowing down to 2000'!
Thanks for making videos like this, its refreshing to get some nature in while in the depths of a Covid-19 pandemic with a 9-5 job. Keep up the good work!!
So fun to watch u guys play in my backyard..AK! I’ve hiked pioneer peak a couple times... luvv it! Glad u guys got to experience Alaska’s beauty!!:) You guys are awesome- luv your videos!
"You would need climbing equipment".. that choss pile looks any gear you put in would just rip out instantly hahahaha. Nice little summit, your video's are all great.
So that small river ford you do to get to Portage Glacier? There may or may not be a way to hike to the source. You didn't hear it from me. Food for thought for the next adventure up here. 😉😊
Love your channel & I have done this awesome hike too. Curios as to what trail runners you wear that are good for running and scrambling. I love Hokas but not for technical terrain. Thanks,
Hey if you guys ever get the chance there's a few hike/trail runs in the northeast I think you guys would love. The presidential traverse in the white mountains the pemi loop in the white mountains and the great range traverse in the adirondacks. All in the ballpark of 10 thousand feet elevation gain and if you did all three youd be climbing about 30 mountains. Presidential you climb mt washington highest point in new hampshire a full great range traverse you climb mt marcy the tallest point in New York and then the pemi loop is just incredible
As always a boomer video of your 'verts'. A friend of worked at Wonder Lake for many seasons. Her jobs included taking the rubbish out to the Park Boundry. When she came across animals on the road she stopped until they moved on. therefore photos abound! Did I see the Moose's Tooth?
Would have loved to see your times up mt. Marathon in seward...their annual 4th of July run attracts a special breed. We hiked it last month, and I met an old timer who said the record descent was last year: 10 minutes and 17 seconds from the top down to town square. I bet you guys could kill it!
Damn. Can't believe you were in my backyard. It would've been cool to join you guys for Pio. Amazing summit, indeed. Honestly, even after 8 years up here, I've never been to the summit in the summer. However, I have skied the North face in winter so you guys will need to come back up some March for that wild ass ride.
Hands down one of the most motivational groups of bros on RUclips.
Lol the 7000+ ft climb was one of their “side dishes” of Alaska . Y’all are on another level!
7000 not terrible most of mine our around 5000 gain. ELevation not terrible on this peak. But these guys are awesom
Mostly because it starts at almost seas level. I didn’t think it was over 6,000ft myself. Its literally visible from my house
