    The one thing i want to see is cannons to get massively buffed in power but also massively nerfed in how many you build. During the napoleonic wars the biggest battle was the battle of Leipzig where the french only had 700 cannons and the coalition had 1,500. Regiment size for cannons in eu5 seems to go from 50 in Renaissance to 1200 in age of revolutions. That plus the fact that cannons only fire once might help with the complete ahistorical nature of eu4 where you build 36k cannons in 1510 and they constantly fire down at the battle while your soldiers are head to head with the enemy. Cannons made up 0.00something% of the biggest battle of the napoleonic wars but in eu4 the ai is hardcoded to want 25% cannon armies before tech 11 and after tech 11 they are coded to want to build 50% cannon armies which is insane

    • @afridge8608
      @afridge8608 2 месяца назад +10

      @Kuba-Er quite literally. Imagine the logistics of going on campaigns with 36k cannons, each weighing around 9 tons by the 1600s irl. That's an army moving around with 324k tons behind it. Literal trains invented 250 years later only carried a max of 74 tons. I would need 4 trains at maximum capacity to move around the army i make in eu4 by 1520

      @@afridge8608 tbf the just because a cannon regiment is of 1000 sizes doesn't mean it has thousands cannons. It is just a representation of cannon taking more resources

    i love this, when you fight a big war and have a massive battle that will decide the fate of the war, the fact that you can slow down to hour by hour and watch the battle is great detail, but i hope since they're going to such detail they make it so that you can manually adjust different things during the battle, maybe moving regiments to different sections, order certain regiments to retreat and order a cavalry charge at a specific time, that would be amazing.

    • @skanderbeg152
      @skanderbeg152 2 месяца назад +13

      I do not believe that will be the case. From what the diary said, it will probably be very similar to eu4 where units just attack the same every tick, and will try to reinforce wherever there is a hole. The biggest differences are you can decide how many men start on the flanks/center/reserves at the beginning of a battle, and reinforcements take time to reinforce the battle like in hoi4

    • @grimgorironside
      @grimgorironside 2 месяца назад +2

      @skanderbeg152 that's too bad, perhaps it can be modded in, though I doubt it.

    • @skanderbeg152
      @skanderbeg152 2 месяца назад +3

      @grimgorironside I think Johan mentioned things like tactics could be modded in, but as something that happens outside of combat and just applies a modifier to the armies. I wouldn't have very high hopes for what you're talking about, although recent pdx games have been quite moddable so I wouldn't put it past a very dedicated person to be able to overall the combat system like that eventually.

    • @Bleiser3

      that sounds too tedious to do for every single battle that can happen simultaneously in the game. Doesn't sound fun at all.

    • @grimgorironside
      @grimgorironside 2 месяца назад +1

      @Bleiser3 as I wrote, for a big decisive battle you can micro it by lowering the speed to have it tick hourly and if you speed it up it just automates the battle like normal, it's just an addition not a requirement.

    As a hoi4 player, I see the implementation of hour-tick into Europa Universalis worrying. The system works well in Hearts of Iron, where you basically have one or two major wars throughout the whole campaign. But eu5 will have a plenty of such wars, and they won't be world wars! Imagine what happens on multiplayer, when France, Ottomans, Poland, China and Ethiopia all have major war after one another. The game is slowed down for sooo long!
    Another thing to remember is that hoi4's tick system is used only for 12 years of the game (1936-48) in contrast to 500 years of eu5. While I feel this is a neutral change for singleplayer (most ppl will still play on speed 4/5 as per usual), shit might hit the fan in multiplayer...

    • @Duke_of_Lorraine
      @Duke_of_Lorraine 2 месяца назад +6

      Battles in EU4 were ridiculously long compared to historical standards, as most battles were only 1 day (a few hours actually), 2 days were rare and 3 days (Leipzig) were exceptional. Unless outright stackwiping the enemy it felt more like WW1.

    • @KedAR_48
      @KedAR_48 2 месяца назад +3

      @@Duke_of_Lorraine Totally agree, but so is the case with almost every pdx game, and its one of those things I always accepted as casulties of having a balance between realistic and fun gameplay. But wars and battles are only one of so many aspects in eu5 (contrary to hoi4 which is a wargame), so having the whole time flow adjusted just for it to be more realistic seems like a risky move.

    I really hope they have a better logistics system in place for EU5. I shouldn't be able to support 10s of thousands of men in Sub-Saharan Africa in the 1500s... Also didn't like how you could have Egyptian troops fighting in western France a decent logistical system to limit things like that or at least have a supply chain I could exploit

  • @rotmistrzjanm8776

    9:45 agreeed. But I wish Paradox would keep their terminology consistent. If something works more or less like in EU4 then why change it's name? Like newbies will be confused anyway. But veteran player would loose some of "in home" feeling (like I bet you that every veteran player will recognize ducats and menpower and their purpose). It's not like EU5 won't be change a little so there is nothing to learn, quite opposite in fact.
    I have gut feeling that it just dilludes the game to seem like there is more content to discover by fans and everyone who played RPGs or designed them will admit - finding a treasure chest only to find it empty from time to time only leads to dissapointment, resentment and irritation as well as less care.
    To clarify - I don't think that will kill the project, ofc no but I don't see the reason to make expercience less enjoyfull and immersive for no apparent reason
