    Very nice landing. This might be stupid, but I fly the DC-9-32 on x plane. It seems like a lot of youtube approaches involve high N1s, this approach is being flown at an N1 of 60%. But there are some on YT in the 70s where it appears to be constant power on final. Is that due to a high nose up attitude? Even at max landing weight and flaps full with the nose roughly horizontal, an N1 of 60% will result in acceleration to over 160 knots quite quickly. Even at max landing weight, you would have to be at least 2.5 degrees nose up to maintain constant airspeed at an N1 of 60%. I was thinking this approach may have been as high as 5 degrees nose up prior to the flare, or was the plane just heavy?

    • @BollocksUtwat
      @BollocksUtwat 7 лет назад +2

      Inconsistencies in required power on approach is a common inaccuracy in flight sims, even stuff like a PMDG which is considerably lower in power required than a 737 pilot has said he needs on the line in a -800.
      Ultimately its far easier to make systems work according to computer logic than to create a realistic dynamic representation of engine power curves and aircraft performance. In that case the right way to sim is to apply technique and not hard numbers and just pretend you have a different engine installed than the real pilots have.
      That said N1 isn't an absolute description of thrust output. EPR is so if your EPR is the same as the real ones then the engines are nominally producing the same thrust in that phase of flight and its technically accurate in its own way. It also depends on the engine of course. N1 is only a number that means something to a particular engine. EPR is much more accurate when dealing with dissimilar tech as far as I understand it.

    • @LeonelEBD
      @LeonelEBD 7 лет назад

      2 questions:
      1- Are you using the same engine type ? many 30s have JT8D-17s which produce more thrust than other older variants also used in the DC9, maybe you are using JT8D-9s .
      2- Are you approaching with Flaps 50 ? Pos. 50 is rarelly used nowadays because of the high engine thrust needed (noisy / expensive) for keeping Vref, usually niners land at flap 40. Flaps 50 is used only in emrgencies, also, many DC9s have some sort of lock preventing the pilots for selecting flaps 50. Maybe only use 50 for very short field landing, runways < 1500 meters.

    • @LeonelEBD
      @LeonelEBD 7 лет назад

      And btw, this approach aat final seems to be @3.00 ° my friend, look at the VSI in short final, couldnt possibly be 5.00 ° ;)

    • @stevebond727200

      I know when I flew the 727-200 simulator at then Continental in Houston, my Sim instructor said they use fuel flow numbers for the various parts of the approach.
      I was a new flight instructor at the time and paid $800 for a two hour ride. That was back in 1988.
      It was a two axis sim.
      Great staff...lots of fun. I even requested if we could do the flight profile of DELTA flight 191, an L-1011 that became a victim of a micro burst while on approach to KDAL.
      The sim pitched up when hitting the ascending air of the MB and I reduced thrust and pitched down to recapture the glide slope. Then I flew into the decending column of the MB and rapidly applied full power to get back up to recapture again the glide slope.
      It all happened pretty quick, and I was familiar with the accident details and the NTSB analysis and probable causes.
      It was the 2,500 fpm decending column of air plus spoolup time that brought them down. Had to be a frightening ride for both crew and Pax. So tragic.
