I've seen this clip a few times and I always come back to view every so often. It's what turned me on into trying the medium and it's got me hooked like nothing else. I saw your show in Santa Fe and I thought it was amazing.
Wow your work is amazing. I love the way you make the marks on your surface and you seem to have such an even levelled surface at the end....beautiful.
Back looking and sharing for probably the 10th time or more! Still love your work and know that you inspired me to start using Encaustic in my work! Just amazing!
this is a beautiful video. The largest I have worked encaustic is approximately 8'x 6', but it is more of a wall relief sculpture. I enjoyed watching the way you build up texture....
I have done encaustic for a few months now. I am impressed by the scale of this work and your huge selection of wax. How many lbs of wax do you use for the largest painting? I love encaustic! It seems like you can do limitless things with it. Nate.
Does any encaustic painter out there know what medium she is using to rub on in order to bring scraped areas into relief? Would that be sapped oil paint or something? Answers, not theories, please. Many thanks.
I use oil paint ~ Just good old oil paint because I have a lot on hand. this last year I've been stepping away from oil on canvas and have explored and fell in love with Encaustic Hot Wax painting. I hang my work at a local gallery and the smaller ones sell well. Recently I've been working with 12x36 panels and sold a series recenlty. Love Love Love working with Encaustics.

In addition to the wax there is a resin to stabilize the paint. The pigments are all high quality but should not be placed in direct sunlight as any piece of fine art.
@@shawnafmoore thanks for helping me out here. I think your painting is absolutely stunning.💖💖💖 Being a painter myself, I just love to see the different possibilities of creating unique artwork!! 🤗
Your insurance company must love the fact that you have a propane cylinder in the studio/house! Illegal in most states not to mention ignorant....We had someone in my state do that....took down surrounding buildings 2 firefighters lost to this ignorance...VERY DANGEROUS!
Thank you for your concern. A propane tank for a BBQ or home use would do the same which is very common at homes where I live. Now I have a warehouse studio in a light industrial area and my insurance company continues to be gone with my materials and working methods.

Wish you did more videos. i love watching you work...very cool.
I'm also amazed at the size of your work. You need lots of energy to work that scale with wax. I agree, those are a great pile of wax colors you have.
Back watching again and sharing with my art group on Facebook. Still in awe of your work Shawna! WOW!
What a wonderful video of the art process.

oil paint directly or pigment sticks from R & F do that. rub off with a little oil.

how do these paintings resist changing room temperatures and direct sunlight?

Bravo!!!
I've heard somewhere.... that you should rub Coconut oil onto beeswax for a protection coat. Is that true??
Not sure. Try it! Let me know.
Bravo! Makes me want to work larger. Wax on Shawna Wax on.

I don't think it is canvas, it's not flexing like a canvas would with all that pressure. scraping, hammering etc. I think its a wood substrate.
Yes.
AND THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ART?
Yes but as all art it depends on what moves you as the viewer.
