Hi Shari! The yellow pan pastel color is the exact match I believe of a painting I’m doing right now. Could you send me the name of that yellow, please? Thank you ever so much!!
I'm just starting with encaustic... can you tell me what glue you used to adhere the print and can the print be from an inkjet printer??? Thanks so much!
Thanks for your videos! Are you using a small sponge to apply the pastels? Its hard to tell and i dont see anything like that on the list at your blog!
Hi Shari; ethereal work. Clicked on the link above to your blog to see what you used to adhere the photo, but it took me to last week's project instead. Could you tell me what you used? Many thanks!
Thank you so much and thanks for letting me know about the link . I have changed the link now and it should be all fixed . Everything that I used is on this weeks blog post :)
Thanks so much Angela ! You can use something as simple as a pancake griddle with a thermometer so that you can keep the wax at the desired working temperature. There is also an encaustic hot plate available from R and F Paints. Have fun !
I just found you this morning and blown away with your beautiful work! I have never done this before but do have pan pastels. Do you have a beginners video??
Hi Judy, and Thank you so much ! There is a full series of the Encausticology online workshops on Sharireplogle.com. If you are looking for photo encaustic techniques , the original Encausticology Image Exploration has lots of projects as well as beginners set up at step by step instructions :) Have fun exploring encaustic !
Hi Patty ! The paper absorbs the encaustic medium beautifully , and yes it is matte finish photo paper. I have a list of exactly what I used on the blog :)
Hi Judy ! I have a link to the blog post in the description box where I post of the supplies. This week I posted this exact set that I used for the video that I got on Amazon. You should also be able to get them in any Art Store like Jerry's and Blicks. They are not available in the craft type stores unfortunately .
Beautiful! Could you use a glossy photograph? I have some old photos that I was thinking of using. Would they work or would the wax not ahere properly on the glossy surface? Thanks for your great videos.
Hi Sylvie so sorry I didn't see this one. It would be better to make copies of these photos onto matte photo paper. This way you can use them with encaustic in a variety of ways without ruining the originals . The Encaustic Image Exploration workshop goes into every detail of the photo encaustic process :)
Hi Ann ! Practice Practice , patience and practice :) It just takes getting used to your heat tool. I do give a slower walk you through everything videos in all of the "Encasuticology" series workshops as well ,but it really comes down to being comfortable and slow and steady . Your "swirling" tells me you are keeping your wrist moving constantly which is exactly what you are supposed to be doing :)) keep going !
Your photos are lovely! The pastels enhanced them beautifully.
Thanks Rae Lynn ! Yes I love using pastels with the photo encaustic :)
Amazing! This is just too cool and even triable!
Thank you Juliana and yes it definitely is , hope you give it a go!
Shari Replogle I hope I do it too. I already do Encaustics and this gives me an idea for a few of our many cruise photos.
So beautiful to watch. I've never tried my hand at encaustic yet but find it fascinating and love to see you work. Thankyou
Thank you so much Rashmi , I hope that you give encaustic a go !
What did you use to adhere the photo to the board
Your work is beautiful! I can't wait to try this!
Awesome Vicki ! I hope you give it a go!
Beautiful shari.

What are you using to melt the wax? I didn't see it in the supply list. I never would have thought to use pan pastels in encaustic. So beautiful!

Splendid!
Do you need to spray any type of varnish or fixative over the layer of pastels?
Hi Rita ! The encaustic is its own finish so all you have to do is lightly fuse the pastels into the wax surface and they are set :)
How well does encaustic medium adhere to the photo paper? Are you using a matte finish paper?
Hi Patty ! The paper absorbs the encaustic medium beautifully , and yes it is matte finish photo paper. I have a list of exactly what I used on the blog :)
Where do I get these pan pastels?

GORGEOUS!!!
Thank you Laura !
I cannot seem to get a smooth wax layer even after swirling carefully with heat gun. Any tips? I would really appreciate. Thank you

I have never been able to put such a large photo on a board without it puckering after waxing.
HI Carol ! This may be the adhesive you are using . There are several options , what is the adhesive you are using to tack the photo down ?
I've been told to use a couple of things: 2 coats of clear encaustic wax seems to be the favorite, and I've also used Mod Podge and Golden medium.
