    I actually went straight from student (not a lot of money) to an anti-FastFashion worker (having the money but not wanting the slavery and the damage behind Fast Fashion).
    Most of the brand mentioned are expensive but are still related to fast fashion: yes some of them make good quality clothes, but they outsource the production in the countries we know.
    I currently buy the majority of my clothes on Vinted. And I admit that I often buy clothes by The Kooples, cause I like the quality and cut, but I only ever bought them secondhand via Vinted.
    The only brand I buy new is "17h10". It is a French startup specialized in tailors (tailleurs) and work clothes. They produce in Portugal and source their fabrics from Italy.

    • @Leila2023_

      a lot of brands produce in Turkey or portugal, but unfortunately a lot of these super expensive 'quality' brands are producing in china and like you say, you have to check the labels to see where things are made... the reality of the luxury brands is shocking. actually i buy a lot from the uk and pay for postage especially my kids clothes, stuff is made in Turkey and much cheaper than buying in france.

    I wouldn't call those brands affordable per se... they're certainly the "cool" brands, but
    they're not exactly inexpensive, and not everyone can afford them.
    I'd say the vast majority of women will be found wearing brands like Promod, Camaïeu, Etam, Kiabi (the cheapest) - as well as the ubiquitous H&M, Zara, Mango... or even Monoprix which actually makes reasonably priced, good quality clothing.

    I always loved these French brands as they have great mix for menswear which is classic but still with an interesting design. I would say though, with first hand experience; the Kooples quality is hit / miss for the price. If you compare it to its peers like All Saints or Zadig, it definitely wears out quicker. Also, a brand that’s usually expensive but has great sales is Isabel Marant, I got amazing deals including a Portuguese made Virgin wool winter jumper for like €120. Which isn’t bad consider what Zara and H&M sometimes charge for their “sustainable” range which if you watch Justine Leconte video, is all a ball of yarn 🧶 Also, there is a ton of those Scandinavian brands that can work for French style just by styling the items differently. They tend to be simple good quality items, perfect for a classic wardrobe.

    • @mgparis
      @mgparis 3 года назад +1

      I agree, the markup for those "cool" brands like The Kooples or Ba&sh is huge, I once saw a report about how they're cheaply made and hugely marked up because of the "it" factor...

    • @sams3015
      @sams3015 3 года назад +1

      @@mgparis Very true. I wouldn’t mind the Kooples quality issues except for the fact their main competitors have superior quality. All Saints for example has a similar aesthetic and price range & you always find them next to a Kooples store or concession and it’s a 100x better made. ZV had a bad rep years ago but it seems like they fixed it.

Funny, because I think in the many years since then French style has definitely influenced me, even though I live in Western Canada in a mountain climate! Sezane is a go-to favourite of mine for quality, more affordable romantic looks, and yes Rouje too. The higher-price point brands you mentioned were not as familiar to me, so thank you. I bought a beautiful 50-50 wool blend camel coat for only 100 euros from Poland, while that same coat would've cost me at least 200 euros in France. How do you feel esoecifically about their handbags , I ask this because in my last trip to Paris I got a Zadig and loved but now I feel a little unsure because the RUclipsrs who buy luxury don’t buy Zadig. They do buy longchamp or Demelier London two brands I saw at Galleries Lafayette but why the luxury RUclipsrs don’t support bags from Maje, Sandro, all Saints or Zadig the contemporary brands from France.
    Are they good quality or you don’t like their bags. ? It can happen you like a brands clothes and shoes but not their bags. How do feel about the handbags of those brands.

      The most beautiful clothes a person can have is to have them custom tailored. Forgot about those very expensive luxury name brand ready made clothes because if they don’t fit your body properly and don’t match your skin tone, they still look awful and not well put together. A lot people from western countries, where the labor costs are high, get their tailor made clothes when they travel to Asia. Hong Kong and Singapore are well known destinations for foreign tourists to obtain affordable custom tailored clothing.

You just had a idea of what quite rich women can afford nowadays. Those brands make beautiful clothes (though really not plus size friendly, last time i checked....) don't get me wrong. I'd say that french women (i mean, the other 90%) just look for really good price AND quality... so, not in those brands :) and our "je ne sais quoi" is rather the art of making something that can be quite cheap look chic, rather than expensive. by ajusting it, "upgrading" it .

      That’s down to your perception. Yes they are not the cheapest but for the quality that most of these brands offer, they are good value. Bare in mind in France you’re not trend chasing. So it’s actually cheaper to buy a good quality staple because it will last you 6 years, not 6 wash cycles. €135 jumper (possibly on sale from €200+) that goes with everything, that’s not going to rib on you, that actually keeps you warm in winter and let your skin breath in autumn and spring is going to be worn more than €35 jumper that starts ribbing and doesn’t regulate heat and cold properly.

    • @sams3015
      @sams3015 3 года назад +4

      @@Hide_and_silk firstly I want to say, congratulations, that’s sadly a skill that is dying. However I would ask you take into account, you are a single person buying materials at cost. You’re not paying staff (if so it’s hardly a huge work force of thousands of people), you’re not paying a corporation tax and insurance. You don’t have global offices and you’re not paying rents to landlords in Rue de Ravoli, Regent Street or Soho as well as in hundreds of locations in malls and department stores. You don’t have investors to pay dividends to either nor are you shipping items to every corner of the world or holding them in storage. Your not paying money to magazines, RUclipsrs and Instagram influencers to get people to buy your things.
      There is no way a global fashion brand can price a well made item at €40 with out using crap materials or slave Labour. I am sorry, it’s not possible. We lost touch with economics and we forgot what clothes are meant to look and feel like. Instead we wear these plastic items, made by indentured slaves in far off lands. These garments don’t even keep us cool in summer or warm in winter, the shoes wreck our feet. I feel like while a lot of French do wear fast fashion there is a higher focus on longevity and people will invest in their clothes instead of buying from trend to trend. Especially if you compare France to markets like the U.K. or U.S.
