  • Trying something new, Im reviewing the FY6900 Frequency Generator, I looked through many different reviews on RUclips and no one actually took it to the max frequency on multiple different waveforms. I go through 10KHz to 60 MHz on the Sine, Square, Triangle, and Trapezoidal.
    The over features are covered in other reviews, so I wont review that part.

    Thanks for the look at the arb gen. This clears up the spec sheet question as to whether the 60MHz version is max 5Vpp on all ranges (No).
    PS - you are using a 50 MHz scope so it 'should' read 3 dB down at 50 Mhz (0.707V) so your reading of 3.8V looks reasonable for an actual 5V output from the generator. The scope input will also integrate square and triangle waves into sine waves at higher frequencies. In addition you need a 50 Ohm termination at the scope to avoid ringing (reflections). Cheers

    Hi, great video thumbs up !
    The distortion on the square wave is from using the BNC .
    Connect oscilloscope probes and the distortion will disappear.

    you got to adjust your scope probes for those frequencies before you can condemn the frequency generator

    Would it be possible to show an averaged FFT over multiple triggers for both sine and square waves to show DDS noise?

    Is it just the camera angle or the rolling shutter? Are those higher freq sin waves skewed? It looks like the peak is just to the right of where it should be.

    Have you tried to to sync a sweep frequency to an oscilloscope? Or perhaps found a work around?

      Select ramp on channel 2, with the frequency as fast as you want the sweep. Set the centre frequency on channel 1. Set up FM on channel 1 selecting the source as channel 2 and set the span using the bias parameter. Take the ramp from channel 2 and input it to channel 2 of the scope. Trigger the scope from channel 2 using the falling edge of the ramp. Adjust the timebase and x position of the scope so the centre frequency is in the centre, and one cycle of the ramp is a convenient length. You could also use X-Y mode on the scope, using the ramp from channel 2 on the sig gen as timebase on the scope, by making it the X input.
      I've found that works pretty well. A slow step waveform with five levels as sweep and a frequency counter, showed it was accurate. Feeding the ramp from channel 2 into the VCO input was much more fiddly and didn't work as well.
      When using the sweep function on the 6800, it didn't output either a sync pulse or the sweep waveform, so I thought the feature was useless. I don't believe the 6900 is much different from the 6800 in terms of functionality.

    It's 1 MegaHertz, not 1 MegaHert. The z isn't for a plural form, it's because the unit is Hertz.
    Anyway, I've spent way too much money this month, but I want one of these. Function gens have always been too expensive for my home use up til now!
