I just got my cat back from the ER from doing this very procedure. She is on meds now and she is functioning like her old self. I’m glad I got this done.
How's your kitty doing. What was the cost for the procedure. My cat is a senior, isn't pooping but had an edema done at the vet's. Still nothing. Only at the vet. It's been a week. No xrays done. I'm worried about the anesthesia part at her age.
@@marlenafina3481 I understand your concern but it needs to be done. You can’t not get the needed procedure done due to her age and her suffer. Do what’s best for them and think about quality of life
@@marlenafina3481So I ended up doing this procedure twice. First time was at the ER and that costed me like $3500 which I’m still paying off. I found a private vet who did it and only had to pay $500-800 the second time because she got blocked again within a few short weeks of it. So now after the second one, she is blocked again, I took her to get enemas done at the private vet which it’s so much she did like 4 full 60cc (huge syringe) of warm water and mineral oil. She is now on wet prescription wet food the Hills Z/D which I haven’t started yet because the vet was out so I was giving her the E/N for few days which she likes it thankfully so that mixed with half water and half of Purina pro plan Hydra Care supplement which is like gravy packets to add to food. She eats that good. Now she has still straining. The vet gave me a big syringe and said I can do enemas at home maybe have to do once or twice a week for her. So I just got the mineral oil, gloves, bleach, everything I need to do it and then I have to obviously give her a bath after. She sits on the couch when I’m gone and lays down trying to push cause it’s exhausting and it worries me so I have to schedule twice a week to do this now. It’s a nasty job but I have to keep her alive. The vet said if this doesn’t work than surgery to remove her colon may be the only option left last resort because her gut does not function anymore. It’s small in the front but as it goes back to her butt inside it gathers it all and feels like a ball. I palpate her each day to feel. It’s been hard in the back for a few days so i have to it 4 times maybe 5 if needed until stuff starts coming out. Another issue is she vomits after the enemas so I have to fix that too.
Same, bosses cat had this done after xray showed poop backed up and she wasn’t eating. $600 for this and an 8lb bag of prescription diet high fiber cat food🤦🏾♀️ she’s also in a stool softener and some other pill.

@@oracleofnaya4654 I am super worried about my senior baby being under anesthesia! Is your baby diagnosed with mega colon? Were ultrasounds done. Mine just concluded doing this procedure without xrays which I honestly find perplexing.
Thank you for sharing! My girl has been struggling for a month without results from meds and is with the vet overnight for this exact procedure. It’s scary to me but seeing what happens during it is very comforting.
My cat was diagnosed with megacolon and this is what I do and it works: 1. Buy a 5 ml syringe. 2. Every morning take the plunger out and pour in half of teaspoon Miralax directly into the syringe. 3. Hold your finger on the syringe tip and pour water in until almost full. 4. Cover both holes with fingers and shake until it dissolves directly in the syringe. 5. Put the plunger back and give it to your cat on the side of the mouth so that she doesn’t choke. 6. Buy some lactuloze and give her 4 ml every evening also. Do this every day and it won’t be any problems anymore. Don’t skip days. My baby hasn’t been constipated in over 6 months with this method. Putting everything directly into the syringe makes sure they get the full teaspoon but if you put in the food it might not work. Tip: buy some pet enemas at the vet or online and always have some in case of emergency. For the enema I fill up a 60 ml syringe with a dose of pet enema and warm water and I attache a long thin sonde to it that I lubricator and put half way up and gently press all the water in. Works every time.
My megacolon cat is currently obstipated. Im desperate to help her. I have the pet emas here. Can I ask what kind of water you use to mix with the pet emas? I have hard water here and am afraid to use it. Do you suggest distilled, purified or spring water etc?
@@blankmission5369 yes. Boil the water and then let it get Luke warm like pleasant to the touch. Then mix one enema with 60 ml of water and put it all in slowly. This isn’t really surgery. It’s basically an enema and manual removal of the feces with the pet asleep. It is much better for the animal to do it this way, and it gets immediate resolution to the problem.
You have to remember that unlike with humans, cats have absolutely no idea what's going on, all they know is their tummy hurts and suddenly a bunch of people are trying to pin you down and to put a tube in your butt and are making it feel even more painful (temporarily from the pressure increase), and you've got no idea why all these people are doing this to you. Instead the same thing is being done, but you're asleep through it and the additional manual evacuation. You wake up no longer in pain, the tummy ache you had all week is gone, and the nice ladies have just brought you some chicken to eat. You have to consider what is in the cat's wellbeing and is the least invasive and traumatic method possible. Here that is one big enema and his poop removed without surgery, and without trauma, vs holding the cat down for possibly multiple small enemas and waiting for the cat to pass the potentially painful movements naturally.
