- Joan's (Tina Lifford) ex-husband (Vondie Curtis-Hall) pays an unexpected visit during Tasha's (Tasha Scott) 14th birthday party. This was the Episode that only aired once
These 90s shows had so much substance. This was an amazing show. I remember watch it when it debuted and it was gone just as quick as it started.
the world wasnt ready for a show with the brilliance that South Central had
You know it's real when you see the vcr static!

How did Paula pass away?
Joan killed me with her speech at the end. She wanted to be appreciated by Tasha but she never showed appreciation to Tasha for looking out for Deon who she adopted without even telling her.
What she gotta tell her for? She ain't paying no bills
@Lbree1077 Joan obviously wasn't either because she had to get that food from the Co-op ended up working at. And she took more care of Deon than she did, by always dumping him on her.
@@PeteMcCorvey but she's the mother. She raised them they don't raise her
@Lbree1077 she shouldn't have adopted Deon if she couldn't care for him. Like Tasha said in another episode she only got him to fill the void of her oldest son getting killed.
@@PeteMcCorvey Shit like this proves Tommy Sotomayor right about Black Women.
Tasha's a fool! Giving her two years in a visit dad more love and credit than her mom! I've been waiting for this episode too. It was powerful. And seeing and remembering some cast members before Moesha.
Her mom always dumped Deon on her
Girls be like that with their Dads
Tasha is hurting. She lost her older brother and her father left the house. She is being nice to her dad because she misses him a lot and wants him to come home so they can be a family again.
In the argument, there was no mention of his cheating, drugs, or alcohol abuse. neglect, and him being a dusty The mother kicked him out because it was about her.
@@starlightrocks7 clearly you didn’t hear, he was chasing some pipe dream and not providing for his family. That’s clearly why she left. He doesn’t even have a stable place to live or phone number so his daughter can contact him.
Probably the most interesting episode of the whole series…underrated show

This show was too real for tv in the 90s. They wasn't ready for shows like this exposing the struggle we go through in the black community.

The irony cause white people created the struggle and enforced it but want to act clueless

Moms was a little unreasonable here. Although providing those daily essentials are obviously super important, you can’t expect a child to truly appreciate it at the time. Although her father wasn’t there everyday, him showing up for her birthday and taking her out was super special too. The writing and acting was pretty dope on this show.
I agree, and the words of the father were pretty powerful too telling the mother that she didn't believe in his dreams and what he tried to do. Also, the part when the mother admitted to kicking the father out and the kids didn't even know that she did that. He was just portrayed as a father who abandoned his family, but that wasn't the case.
That's Bullshit
@@Dynasty-Star Yea its straight BS when a mother kicks the father out, and plays victim and has her kids thinking that the father just left the family.
@@robertfranks665 Nigga he could still come see his kids. She's not stopping him!
@@robertfranks665 This show was too real, and it showed how trifling Joan was.😂
This show was to real for TV. Hollywood got scared 😳 too many people started talking about wow does this really happen in the hood??? Next thing....... Cancelled so they turned it softer and turned it into moesha
You never lied this show was way before it’s time. Just like folks were asking, “does this really happen in the hood” several years later when “The Wire” debuted I used to hear all the time about is Bmore really like this and is Bmore really like that smh lol. Sometimes I didn’t mind it but I remember especially when I was in the military it became a pain in the ass being asked about my city and the negative shit that we had going on. I bet anything this show would probably be one the highest rated shows on tv long as they didn’t try to water it down and kept it 💯 like other hood shows. Definitely get rid of the laugh track and turn it into a comedy/drama like ATL or turn it into a 100% drama with a little action in it like Snowfall or other shows like it.
I agree Hollywood chicken out, however, this show was no different from "Good Times,' it wasn't watered down like "Moesha."
Meanwhile they’re the ones who put drugs in the community yet wana act surprised
You just don't know what peace you are bringing me and my spouse it's 3 am and we're watching just giving relaxed vibes as we throw our kids old clothes away🤣Thank you from the turner family here in Htown ☺️✨

I agree and this episode was as real as it gets, idk why they never aired it. Glad I still had it.
There was another episode "Men" that TVOne didn't air that I just uploaded
I agree with Joan on this . She does all the work and the dad waltz through every two years and Tasha acts like hes the greatest on earth
At the end of the day, that's the man that she chose to procreate with, and children should NOT be collateral to their parents' feelings and messes with one another--even if those feelings are justified. That's not a child's burden to bear. Adults create these messy situations, and people like to place the burden to "proportionately honor parents" on innocent children who had no choice in the matter. She has every right to to love her dad no matter what type of guy he is. She's entitled to HER feelings about her father. The mom is entitled to her feelings about her ex, and the son is entitled to HIS feelings about his father. The daughter is not required to share her mom's and brother's anger with the man. That doesn't mean that the girl loves her mom any less. And as unpopular of a reality as it is, parents aren't owed their children's gratitude for doing what a parent is supposed to do. Children may appreciate it when they mature, but they typically don't see it in the moment. People who need their egos stroked by children should not become parents, teachers, mentors, or any other thing that puts them in proximity to kids.
@@tincredible You're completely right. As a parent, you're supposed to take care of your child. However, I can only imagine the pain Joan must feel to see her daughter act like the father is just the greatest thing on earth when he WASN'T doing what he was supposed to be doing.
@@aaronsass9265 Joan's feelings are legitimate. But, at the end of the day, children are not responsible for their parent's feelings, especially when considering that children never ask to be placed in these messy predicaments. A part of being a parent is "sucking it up" and dealing with your own feelings, not putting the burden on an innocent child.
@@tincredible LOL I just said that I was agreeing with you. I just said that I understood her pain.
@@tincredibleI get what you mean but her dad has done nothing for her really. Her mother has been there for her everyday. She threw her the party not her father. Being a parent is often a thankless job. Children do have a responsibility to be thankful for what their parents do. When I think back to all the times I took my parents for granted, I’m ashamed.
Tasha does more wrk holding tht family togther than Joan. Taking in a child she couldnt afford to look after & expecting Tasha to pick up the slack. Tasha loves her mom but it pissed me off tht it seemed Joqn never cared about where Tasha's hurt feelings were coming from. Her dad showed her the type of love parent to child & Joan treated her like a sister wife. She coddled Andre because the other brother died & took on Deon to take his place & needed Tasha to pick up the slack of a 2nd parent. It was her bday, let her have tht one day.
Not to mention that she probably took in Deon to also get some money from the foster care system. Some people are like that and don’t actually care about the children they take.
EXACTLY 💯

I understand that the mom put a lot of responsibilities on Tasha at an early age where she literally should have been focusing on being a little girl but the mom is right she does everything for her children and showing gratitude shouldn’t be so hard. I understand that the father gave her time and space to be the little girl but that’s what fathers do. But she can’t just act like the man shows up when he wants to and supposed to forget everything that her mother does in spite of how her parents split
Imagine a person setting fire to a house in secret and then wanting credit for being the person that put the fire out. That’s what the writers were trying to convey. It’s the father who was forced into a position to get all the quality time he could.
@@johnlovestosing04 that was a good analogy I didn’t think of it that way
@@johnlovestosing04I know this response came late(I just watched this episode for the first time) But your response was what I was looking for. She broke up the family, couldn’t control the older son to the point he got killed in streets, and has tate’s character Andre set to go down a similar path.
I thought she was about say she kicked him out for chasing skirts but when it was for something that would’ve benefited that household, her decision to divorce came to her from a selfish motivation.
She won't forget everything the mother does because the mother is there every day. But it's not her job to share her mom's anger with her dad. The child is innocent in the situation and has every right to express her love for both parents, even if one parent is trifling. Good or bad, children should be entitled to their own perspectives of their parents. They shouldn't be burdened with a "responsibility" to share in their parents' feud that they didn't create. And I think that the son was equally entitled to his feelings of his father.
She probably gave him time to straighten up financially and see if his dream would fall through, but in the meantime, those children needed financial support. Sometimes parents have to put aside their dreams when they see their children have immediate needs. Being in the same house is great, but children need money, too. It is hard to ascertain everything will happen before marriage and children. Some secrets go to the grave. He could have perhaps had a stable job and invested in his family until the pipe dream came along.
Holy shit, thank you for saving this recording. Subbed

Tasha is overjoyed when her father, James, unexpectedly shows up for her 14th birthday party, but her mother and brother are less than thrilled. Despite Nicole's pleas, Andre refuses to behave civilly toward his father. Andre confronts a group of gang members who try to crash the party. He is furious when James comes off as the hero by defusing the situation peacefully. Andre tells him off and starts a shoving match. After James criticizes Joan's parenting skills, she screams and throws him out of the party. Tasha follows her father and spends the rest of the day with him. Andre discovers some surprising information, although he had assumed that James abandoned the family. Joan actually ended the marriage. When Tasha returns, Joan tells her she doesn't have to turn her back on her father, but could show her mother some appreciation.

This was a good sitcom..I guess this show didn't sugarcoat anything and that's the reason they pulled the plug. I see where the mother is coming from, but also see where Tasha s coming from. She needs to appreciate her Mom, but there seems to be a lack of appreciation for Tasha too. The mother brought the little boy in the house, only for Tasha to mostly take care of him, while she pays most of her attention at home to Andre. So her father get’s romanticized, and is like a fantasy in her head. Though he isn’t shit, her mother not really paying attention to her, makes her long for her father.
That's the problem. It;s the stereotypical narrative f the father's ain't shit predicated upon what the mother said about their baby daddies. The Single mothers are the one's who ain't shit and Kevin Samuels exposed that narrative. Joan was a single mother by preference, The father did commit infidelity, he was laser focus on his purpose and his purpose seemed to be more intangible than just Joan and that's that Joan hated, Blk Men in amerikkka have been taught to put the woman first like Jahiem and that distorts what's more consequential to him. Single mothers teaches their kids, particularly their sons that their fathers are no good so the sons assimilated the brokenness of their mothers without knowing the facts. There's a video in social media of a brutha who's 26 years of age and all this time we was taught by his broken single mother that his father wasn't shit and he never written his letters, send him birthday cards, etc until he met his real father and his father showed proof of all the letters and birthday cards that his mother purposefully concealed from her son so she can sustain the false narrative that his father is garbage. My sister is the same way, that's why I cut that bitch off 3 years ago. She wants the make a mockery of The Most High and her baby daddy, she's gonna get exactly what she deserve. A Punishment that's cataclysmic and that goes for all the single mothers out there
The mom was definitely wrong here. The little girl just wants to see and be around her father. She put him out, and tore apart her own family. Not to mention the mom works her like a dog, and has her take on responsibilities that she shouldnt have to take on, while letting Andre off the hook. Of course Tasha is going to choose her father over her mother. He allows her to be a kid, and gives her that love she doesnt recieve from mom.
I'm sure Tasha appreciates her mother but her mother didn't see it at that time but the mother gotta understand she hasn't seen her father in a long time I can understand wear larenz tate is coming growing up with an absent father can scar a kid mostly a boy learning how to grow up to be a man that's when a boy needs his father the most to show him that.
Out of all episodes I have seen…. I have never seen this one 😭
