Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed the signing of former Wales rugby union winger Louis Rees-Zammit.
Rees-Zammit shocked the rugby world when he announced at the beginning of the year he was stepping away from the sport to pursue a career in American Football.
The 23-year-old met with several NFL teams after completing a 10-week training camp as part of the league's International Player Pathway programme.

Shows the difference in scale that he'll earn more in a practice squad than he would in years of a rugby union
No he wont.
Doubt it but we’ll see
@@blairrobert3438yes he will
@@haruspex1-50he will
He definitely won’t.
Think kansas city chiefs got themselves 3 million new fans.
Yes I think so
Nope I'm still a patriots fan
I think Taylor Swift got them more fans
I'm still a Jets fan.
As a Chiefs fan I'm excited to see him on the team. Really enjoyed watching Wales in the Rugby World Cup this past year.
KC truly get a bargain, LR-Z is one highly talented individual. Hurts to have lost him in our Wales team, he was pivotal in a nations squad rebuild, but deserves this path. Incredible talent, go get em.
4.43 seconds 40 yard dash (not 4.46). Which is quick, but not super quick.
For his size it’s fast
@@hashbrown4278what the hell does his size have to do with it? Tyreke Hill is smaller than him and DK Metcalf is bigger than him and they’d both smoke him like a Philly blunt
@@kylerb2631 again for his size he’s fast.
Faster than the average WR (4.48)🔥🔥🔥
This is literally the dumbest thing I've ever seen a 4.43 and even 4.46 are stupid fast. Don't speak on subjects you are completely ignorant of.
Good luck to him.
That’s massive who would of thought a kid from Penarth wales would sign got one of the best NFL teams in the world atm
The Best*
He will be a very dangerous player in open play. All the best to him.
Congrats
Madness
As much as I appreciate these experts combine stats breakdown, that doesn't apply to athletes with the low sense of gravity, vertical shifts and absolute raw power that LRZ has. Let me put it this way, if he is alone against a marker with 30 yards to go, he simply ain't being stopped, I promise you that. He would carry them over to the touchdown zone on the floor dragging on his leg. The same way CMC bullies through, this guy will be like Adrian Peterson - if Punt return Devin Hester. Trust me on that, been saying it since January.
😂😂😂📸 I'll be back
Adrian Peterson.. my man can’t even get to 10 reps at 225 and you compare him to Adrian Peterson? Dude will be lucky if he is the next Chris Hogan
He’s joined the wider training squad. Unlikely to play, but good luck to him 👍
Don’t speak so sure. The NFL just changed the rules for the way kickoffs are played. The rule change ditches the trend of the kickoff being an almost ceremonial play to one where the return game is back on the table and is as vital as the punt return game.
LRZ will have a pretty good chance to fill one of those two kickoff receiver spots due to the rule change making his carryover skills from rugby relevant in this context and his natural running ability. He would slot in nicely in that return spot with teammate Kadarius Toney.
Also, the NFL changed the rules for IPP players on practice squads being able to get 3 games of actual game experience per season without having to have their contract terms changed. So there is much less risk trying him in a real game situation if the Chiefs want to give him a chance in a preseason game or a game against an obviously lesser opponent that they are likely to beat. He can get that chance, and then it’s up to him and his athletic ability to get it done.
Meh, not so true. Chiefs only have one proper running-back and they’ve listed him under that position. Good chance he will be one of three in the RB room. Plus with the new kick off rule, good chance he becomes the teams kick returner.
If he gets a proper chance, he will smash it. Rugby players should have great leg drive after contact. NFL players have below average tackling.
did you just say “see if he can take a hit” ? 😂😂😂 international rugby is way more physical than NFL. I think the princess will be fine.
@@bennwaters5851 On "New Heights" podcast Jordan Mailata The Eagles Left Tackle said NFL players hit harder by far than rugby athletes
That's bs lol. Delusional union fan. You're allowed to barge with your shoulder in NFL even if you aren't carrying the ball. You can't do that in union
If he can bulk an extra 25+lbs under professional supervision, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a TE type position......he's already taller, faster & has way more professional experience than Aaron Hernandez - other than his off field "antics" he was nothing short of dominant in the NFL for a while
He'll have a great mentor in Kelce as well.
Practice Squad is the key phrase along with around 90 other hopefuls that needs to be cut to 53, hope he does well but there’s a long way to go!
Practice squad and if he’s lucky possibly special teams player
Yeah..let's see if this princess can take a hit ..he is slow compared to NFL players..Go Chiefs Da 3 peat
hating on our newest signing? what a fan lol
He doesn't look like an NFL player
Lots of NFL players don't look like an 'NFL Player'. Look at Patrick Mahomes.... was waaayyyyy down the pecking order, now is on course to become the G.O.A.T. Lesson for you Boris - never judge a book by it's cover, eh.
He wont make it,,but wales should not pick him ever again should he come back to rugby, overrated player ,
And just what have you done with your life to be so negative and sound so bitter?
Smart move, he'll be on mega bucks over there if he's good.
Still Legend!🔥
