    THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
    THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
    SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
    Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
    Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreetmap.org/copyrig...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
    Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
    Text version of communication - Made by Author.
    Video editing - Made by author.
    HOW I DO VIDEOS:
    1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
    2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
    3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
    4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
    5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
    6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
    7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

    Stop bothering them.

    Well handled by the crew. US ATC can be a pain to work with - non-standard phraseology and no information being passed on from one sector to another. Let them fly & land the plane. Unneccessary interruptions on final ("get off at the taxiway . . ") included. A single-engine landing is no joke for anyone so let them do their job. Controllers sometimes really ought to be put in planes in emergency stations to better understand what's happening up there if you get the lights, bells an whistles blaring in your ear while sitting on a s***load of fuel.

    These controllers ought to have a conversion table handy. They muddy up the radio for lack of basic multiplication skills.

    • @cageordie
      @cageordie 2 года назад +3

      Right. Because multiplying by 2 is so hard? 38 tons? 76,000 pounds... assuming short tons. Should be close enough and if there's an explosion the NTSB can do the accurate conversion.

    • @captainhindsight8779
      @captainhindsight8779 2 года назад

      Why? Americans are better than the rest of the world, everyone else should make things easier for us. We didn’t conquer the world to use metric.

  • @hack1n8r
    @hack1n8r 2 года назад +76

    Fuel onboard/remaining units can be specified as: Time, Pounds, Kilograms, Tonnes (tons is incorrect), and (US) Gallons. Of those, 'Time' is somewhat ambiguous, but it does help controllers better manage the emergency in their airspace.
    ARFF prefers volume or weight, but can convert Time to approximate volume or weight if they have the aircraft info.
    For weight, most of the world uses metric weights (Kilograms & Tonnes; One Tonne equals 1,000 Kilograms, not 2,000 pounds), yet America still uses Pounds. In aviation, either Kilos/Kilograms or Pounds are used for weight to avoid confusion, and if 'Tonnes' is used, it is *always* the metric tonne.
    For volume, 'Gallons' is used, and is always the US gallon.
    ATC controllers, especially here in America, need to be able to convert from metric weight to imperial weight ( i.e., pounds). This burden should be on the controllers, not pilots. The context for souls & fuel is almost *alway* an emergency, and pilots are busy managing the emergency, and are not likely able to convert.
    At some point America will eventually catch up with the rest of the world and go metric. Until then, the FAA should require *every* controller here in America to be able to convert metric to imperial, and vice versra. Doing so would cut down unnecessary chatter, and better allow pilots to do what they need to do.

    • @machloop5229
      @machloop5229 2 года назад +2

      @@andydaniel2 totally agree.
      For other readers, the crew are busy with handling the aircraft / coordinating the checklists. A third person in this communication loop at this stage adds unnecessary complication. Souls on board and fuel remaining should be well down the list of priorities. There’s a reason why nearly every response to this is ‘standby’, followed up by being pressed for it again.
      Regarding the MCDU/CDU. In the event of failure, the MCDU should not be relied on in case of a failure (many manufacturers state this). The CDU is based on a lot of possible assumptions which are likely to be invalid, plus it does not know the technical state of the aircraft.
      An assumption it has enough fuel for the flight it’s undertaking and once the crew states its intentions to land…then is a good time for souls on board and time remaining. By that time, the MCDU / CDU will be set up to give a more representative figure.

    It's been said before but not only do I think ATC should manage doing calculations like that on their own, in an emergency they should assist the pilots in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. Slightly worrying, in this situation they managed fine but there's plenty of examples where ATC distracted the pilots way too much in emergencies and it become more dangerous because of it.

    Reminds me of that BAW 747 that took off from a US airport, bound for home. They had an engine issue and needed to go back. Controller asks for fuel in grains avoirdupois or something, is told “54 tonnes”. He then asks back, “5400 pounds?” 747. Going across the Atlantic. Yeah, 5400 lbs sounds about right.

Asking the question of weight of ‘fuel remaining’ and insisting it being answered in pounds by ATC is ridiculous at a time why pilots are concentrating on the onboard emergency. Pilot…engine 1 down. • @superbaladur
    @superbaladur 2 года назад +1

    I don’t know if this will help but ATC Controllers should have 3hrs observation seat in a commercial airplane simulator per year to observe the workload associated with various emergencies for a departing aircraft. This is a mayday, give the flight crew a direct heading to fix as soon as requested where they can hold and move other aircraft away. One pilot will fly, navigate and talk to you while the other addresses the emergency, runs the checklist and both will troubleshoot. By giving turns left, right, descents or climbs, ATC interrupts either an emergency checklist being performed or a troubleshooting sometimes long happening in the cockpit, increasing the workload of the flight crew in an already hazardous situation.

    ATC likely is asking for the remaining fuel on board to help determine if a fuel dump is necessary for an emergency landing within the weight limits of the jet. The workload is heavy during an emergency for the pilots. Fuel dumps should occur at higher altitudes. Everyone is just doing their job....even if it means that they ask the same question over and over.

      the whole world uses time, 60, 12, 24 e.t.c, that's not metric. there's lots of non metric units

      Im American and we learn the metric system more than the imperial system in schools. It’s weird because at least I can convert the metric system better but only really know what the imperial system looks like

      @@jamescollier3 Actually time defined in metric system. Metric system cover all units of measurement. Metric system does not mean decimal system.

      Are we going to start using meters instead of feet for altitude? What about knots..is that more like mph or kph? I'm fine with lbs or kg.. but I don't get why people are so triggered by it. I agree that atc should be able to convert tho.. but actually they asked for time, but instead of repeating that request he than wanted the pilots to convert.
