it surprises me how many people don't understand the purpose of a cover. it's to put your own spin on a popular song. of course she's not gonna sound like Taylor Swift. she ISN'T Taylor Swift. simple logic. there's nothing wrong with putting a rock-ish spin on the song.

No one is complaining that she doesn't sound like Swift, nor is anyone saying she should sound like her. Maybe people do understand the purpose of a cover, but they are just reacting to Chrissy's take on the song. Just because it's a cover, it doesn't mean that it is a good cover to some people. They are entitled to post their opinions and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I don't understand what the hate on Chrissy and basically ATC doing a cover of this song with a rock edge is about because atc is a punk rock band, they are supposed to have a rock edge. BEFORE ANY OF YOU CLOSE MINDED PEOPLE SAY ANYTHING ELSE. Taylor Swift is a pop singer. Against the Current is an alternative band. So from that information, it's already given that the song will not sound the same. That is the whole point of a cover. It's different artists putting a twist on already made songs to make it comfortable for them to perform and to make it sound like what their audience expects from them. Each artist has their own sound because each artist has different influences. Taylor has a sweet voice because she grew up listening to country music, in which you don't really scream much, as opposed to Chrissy who grew up listening to bands, so obviously, her singing voice developed differently. So DON'T YOU DARE say Chrissy can't sing, or is trying to "sound like Hayley from Paramore," or all she does is scream, or she "ruined the song" because she didn't. She made it her own and that's what's so great about music. No matter what sound, the same song made over and over again by different people can reach out to different audiences. So if you don't like this cover? Leave. It's not bad music, it's just not your taste, so don't say anything about it. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. If you think what you're saying is "criticism," like, "She shouts the lyrics, it's wrong," or, "They should make it sound like the original," don't say it. Stuff like that doesn't help an artist develop in anyway. An artist should not be criticized by the genre they play the same way a person should be criticized by their interests. Art is supposed to help people express who they are and should not be held down by what people say. No one can be satisfied so if you think this cover didn't satisfy you, then that's okay. But that does NOT give you the right to say anything bad about this because ATC and Kurt WORKED on this. This did not magically appear out of nowhere. They put time and effort in making this, and judging from the video, they had FUN. So don't put down someone who enjoyed doing what they did to please the people they care about.

Why is christy's voice so rough? Im not sure if i pronounced her name correctly but yeah. I prefer her voice during the counting stars cover. Its more.. Soothing i guess? But great cover! Not tryin to hate or anything. :)
