Not usually the kind to leave comments on youtube posts, but Jay Z was an icon. Part of what made him iconic was his almost deity-like approach to things. The way he carried himself was almost mysterious. You were certain that he was above pettiness. You wouldn't see him aimlessly strolling through the school on a random day. He maintained a perfect balance between presence and absence, such that whenever you saw his face, it meant something. Something that you were certain wasn't trivial - he wouldn't be coming to ask for the list of noisemakers. He also had this father vibe around him. That no matter how bad things looked, he'd find a solution. Back at Alliance, when we'd face unreasonably difficult mock exams (and guys would wonder, will we do it?), people would say, "Jay Z has done it since forever, and if there was reason to panic, we would know." I think we were more confident in the fact that he still felt we were going in the right direction, than we were, in our belief that we were! Your flowers, Mr D.G Kariuki. You would do the world a serious disservice if you didn't write a book.

DG the OG. Mad respect. He was my principal @ Meru School, class of 2007. "In Understanding Be Men" is the school motto. He made disciplined men out of us and indeed turned the school into a top performer countrywide. Forever grateful. I salute you!

I was in Meru school when he was our principal and he taught me Biology he used to say 'Dwarfs see further when the stand on the shoulders of giants', in hindsight he was the giant we stood on as he spoke about our school Motto ' in understanding be men' . Discipline was a big thing for him, we stopped selling pigs and cows when he joined 😅

I was at Alliance from 2012 - 2015, but I wouldn't say he had a direct influence to me. However, I was always impressed with how forward thinking he was. Of all principals that have passed through the school in its 97 years of existence, he's among the three (and the only African) that played a huge role in advancing the school's development in terms of infrastructure. I would also laud him for the number of lives that he has changed, not just at Alliance, but in the whole country. This man's a legend, and 1000% deserves the HSC title that always accompanies his name.

Njay Z, we gave him that nickname as class of Bush 08 when he was trying to say Jesus Christ (JC) in a cool but heavy Meru accent 😂
I'll give him one thing, he can drill kids to read and perform.
But it is my opinion that since he shifted Bush from culture to results, the quality of the students coming out reduced (could be Khaemba syndrome but oh well).

Jay-Z if you are reading this make a fully integrated academic system. From kindergarten, primary, high school and higher education. At alliance you made big fishes but released them to small aquariums (Kenyan universities).
