Burning the coffee grounds is not necessary.
All you have to do is collect the coffee grounds you have USED (after making coffee), and put it in containers dispersed around the house.

It is odd that so many people talk about using used coffe as well because I put all my used coffee grounds into a tub in my kitchen and if I don't keep the lid on then I start getting infested with small (fruit?) flies that seem to like the smell of old coffee and breed in there.
