i love how sohyang opens her mouth when singing- this sounds so weird, but in the generation that focuses more on "looking" good rather than "sounding" good. she just slays me so damn hard.

This is one of my biggest irritations with some singers. You can tell they hold themselves back because they're afraid to make a possibly ugly face but its like GIRL LET IT OUT, GET RAW WITH YOUR VOICE.
Hello. I live in Korea, We didn't know much about her because she only sang for God. But now I really love her and her songs.
I'm listening almost every day. She is a lovely, warm and humble person. One thing is for sure, there are so many more amazing songs of her. Thank you so much for the reaction video.

Tbh there was a time I hoped she release more of her original stuff. But after being impressed by her arrangements in every new cover of her esp. the massive avalanche of masterpieces she dropped in 2020, nowadays I’m just hoping she’s gonna cover as many songs as possible and hopefully most of my personal fav songs are included in there too.
She’s too good to be limited by the catalogue of a single or a few songwriters. Period.

In this Korean singing competition show 'Immortal Songs', the audience members are the judges.

Immortal Songs is not really a contest. The show invites 6 stars in their own genres (pop, traditional Korean, classical, CCM, etc.) who all are paid for their performance to an episode centered on a particular theme. Sohyang has participated in 6 episodes 2014-2018. The studio audience votes on their favorite to make it more interesting but there are no prizes nor advancement to a later round - just bragging rights. This was a special episode inviting singers who had been especially amazing in previous episodes (highest ever score, most career wins etc.) - all 6 performances were very good and several were spectacular. The audience favorite that night was a very popular singer who provided a sweet and flawless but to my mind not jaw-dropping performance.

that's just because his fan-club was there as audience😂 There were much better performances than his not to mention SoHyang's
@@fruityfudge Besides Sohyang's Everyone I also preferred several others to his - e.g. Ali's Binari and even Sonnet's song was as good. But even so he is an excellent singer - not like the winner in the Shane Filan special.

That is the truth, this was an Immortal Songs contest and no she didn't win. It goes on audience vote and whoever is most popular tends to win. Sohyang is well loved in Korea and was easily the best singer there but not as popular as the idols that she was up against.

Thanks for the reaction and analysis. I've been waiting so long for this. Sohyang took us on a rollercoaster ride with this performance. This was arguably the most technically challenging and emotional song she has ever performed. "Next level singing" indeed. She is a phenomenal vocalist and an incredible performer. Thanks again, really enjoyed the reaction.

This performance was from Immortal Songs 2 Episode 231 if anyone is interested. Immortal Songs 2 is a program where they get singers to compete against each other to gain the votes of 500 member audience. Sohyang lost to the previous singer before her, who had 410 votes. I understand music is subjective but it still blows my mind how she didn't win.
Unlike King of Mask Singer, Immortal Songs results are very much affected by the popularity of the performer, and also the composition of the audience.
Sohyang also did not win Arirang Alone. Her version was too modern for the theme for that particular episode.
i think this is her last performance in Immortal Songs 2.

It annoys me when people downplay someone just to ‘keep everyone happy’ or coz of their obvious af biases. Sure, Best might be pushing it but is it really so hard to admit she’s Second to None?
Best live to best live, even fancams to fancams, just how many out there has a track record as impeccable and consistent as her?
I honestly don’t know anyone of this generation, and neither have I heard of someone with a significantly better record in the past.
So Hyang has worked decades to master her craft and yes, today she’s just That Good. It’s as simple as that.
The skill level of a craftsman is never measured by their recognition and sales. Those might glorify it but can’t take away Nothing from it.

She takes part in a lot of these singing competitions like Immortal song 2 and doesn’t win. It’s mind blowing like yes all the other singers are great but she’s definitely next level.
You should understand at that time of 2012 I am a singer2, it was her first debut to mainstream tv show. People almost hadn't heard about her, only musicians and christian listeners knew her. Despite all those disadvantages, she made a record of highest average rank of 1.9 above all singers, which means she won or put in second place almost on every episodes. She might not be the final winner but she was in final top 3 with other most famous vocalists of the country. That's why people in Korea says her as the Queen of competition shows.

Thank you so much! She's amazing and thank you for explanations. And yes, it was a contest. She didn't win indeed. For a winner stage, she won with "Lean on me", her first stage there. Michael Bolton invited her on tour afterwards. And about the effect thing. Immortal songs but some effects on. In this performance not much (which can be heard in the fancam which sound still as amazing as this) but they do. To me, it increased over the years. The really old performances of the singers there sounded more raw.
Please please check more of her! Interesting would be a calmer piece maybe like "Love Poem" on begin again (it's perfect) or "Misty" (she sang it on concerts and begin again). This is technical perfection there. And seems so easy. ☺️

Welcome back and good to see you react to Sohyang's "Everyone". It's been some time. I knew we would get a thorough and technical breakdown from you on Sohyang's singing here but I have to say that it is a disappointment not to see you shed tears here after all your build-up :-) All the vocal terminology terms just roll off your tongue as if you were giving morning greetings. At the risk of being offensive, you come across as the mad professor of vocal pedagogy who spit fire about quantum physics, leaving the audience in awe but resigning to study for two more PHD degrees to catch up later. Listening to your description of Sohyang's singing is like hearing the dialog in the movie "Matrix" describing the sighting of a beautiful woman from the streaking green lights on the monitor :-) It seemed so unreal.
However, I do appreciate the affirmation you gave to Sohyang - "Interplanetarily great" is really something. I think you coined a new expression, and how appropriately so. Thanks for making this entertaining reaction video.
Tbh I cry at Sohyang often but this one didn't get immediate tears from me either when I first heard it. Bridge Over Troubled Water? Tears. Oh Holy Night? Tears. Breathe? Freaking BUCKETS, lol.

Interplanetary Great is my new favorite adjective for her, and you nailed it about her superpowers being used to help the storytelling which is what I think those of us die hard fans keep us coming back. If we REALLY want Sam to cry, the duet by Insooni and Bada singing Father on Fantastic Duo 2 is a must watch. Artistically, emotionally, and technically brilliant. Not that I like, want you to cry - but for the love of all that is holy is that a fantastic performance.
