I've just removed the starter on my son's car. Custom 4-into-1 headers, which I had to loosen and detach on the lower part of the exhaust just to be able to remove the starter... The knock sensor was almost impossible to get to... After all that, the starter he bought has a slip on solenoid connector and not the screw one....
I've just done mine.. assuming stock exhaust manifolds, the knock sensor and tyre do not need to be removed at all.. the heat shield, I did need to remove mine, you are working with millimeters of gap so it coming off helps that extra but if room.. And a tip putting the starter back, as I experienced, be careful not to pinch the crank sensor above the starter .. I forced mine a bit too much and ended up cutting some of the wire and shorting the sensor causing a no start.. not fun
I'm doing this now to my G8 and it's gotta be the biggest pain in the ass I've done on this car. Thanks for the video though. Nice knowing how the cables are ran
great video i was told you have to unbolt the steering rack to get starter out is this untrue as i am about to do mine on my ve clubsport r8 many thanks
@@LG-gz7dl I went on airtasker and paid a guy to come to me and replaced it. 150 labour and he also went and exchanged the starter I got for the one with the right plug. I got a Mitsubishi style starter not the Delco. From memory. The Delco has a blade terminal and heat shield the Mitsubishi has bolt styling and no heat shield or the whole the instal one.

my uncle and i are feeling your pain
May I ask why it was so hard? I’m going to do mine soon, does the video make it look easier than it really is?
Good video, thanks for sharing. Trying to understand why the wheel and knock sensor needed to be removed, though.🤔
Very helpful mate thanks
Good video mate!
How hard was it to undo the knock sensor? Looks hard to get at.
Is that to give it room to wiggle out?

I didn't have to ... 👍
Hey was removing the screw for the heat shield necessary? Also is it just a Phillips head?
I found i needed to remove it so I could get the starter out. and it was a torx screw .. cheers
I am about to tackle this job myself did it take long
1-2 hrs cheers
How’d you go? Need to replace mine. Any tips?
