How does the lifetime warranty work for the ignition coils for a defective one? Can a homeowner mechanic bring a bad one in, or does a qualified Husqvarna shop have to diagnose and repair it? If it is the latter, then the bench time cost negates the savings from getting a free coil (assuming one still has the receipt). My Shindaiwa C242 coil just took a dump, and Shindaiwa also has a limited lifetime warranty. I ended up buying a new one online because there are no longer any dealers where i live.
The equipment must have been registered to the original owner and the claim can only be credited to him. A dealer must confirm the failure and submit a claim and make the repair. If the equipment is still under warranty then the labor is included. If the equipment is out of warranty then the labor cost is the responsibility of the owner. The reason is because not all coils that don't produce spark are defective. Sometimes its a kill switch, wiring short, bad ground, bad plug boot, flywheel problem, poor testing methods, etc. For Husqvarna, we can check a database and see if it was registered so no reciept needed if it was. Labor flat rate for a coil is usually about half an hour.
In my case, the coil actually had a decent spark. Every five (5) or so pulls, the engine would do a single pop. I pulled my hair out in frustration on this one, but a new coil fixed the brushcutter. This was a rare occasion where I couldn't find a RUclips video that covered this issue. According to the 1995 Shindaiwa Workshop Manual, their coils were Transistor Controlled Ignitions ( i.e., TCI), many Echos are Capacitor Discharge Ignitions (CDI). Do the internal electronic components degrade over time and that in turn throws off the Ignition timing?
I got a letter in the mail about this recall finally after first hearing it in march. My closets service dealer is a Russo equipment dealer that will service it as long as I provide the original receipt from when I purchased the unit at Lowe’s. (Hopefully I can find it!) it’s around a 2 week turnaround and could be longer if they don’t have the part.
We run a system where people are put into a queue and get a call a few days before their equipment would come up in the lineup. This allows equipment that still runs to be used until their turn comes up.
Thats a great idea but i'm not making videos. I'm recording actual customer repairs while on the clock. The best I can do is talk about symptoms during an air leak repair. Thanks for watching!
There was a stop sale on these units months ago. I suspect the long delay between then and just getting the coils now was the wait for new coils. Parts backorders are getting less frequent.
It is a factory recall for a safety issue so I did it by the book. I never heard of rejuvenating a coil. How do you deal with the rev limiter or spark advance circuitry? @@steveriggenbach90
Not sure. They come with a lifetime warranty to original purchaser. Does that mean you make them cheap so replacement costs are low or do you spend more money up front on all of them and hope for less failures?
Thanks for the great vid. The torque values really help a lot.

Good video, sound a little under the weather?

I'm only aware of the Husky models as we are not a Redmax dealer.

I would think any component, whether it be electronic or not, is subject to degradation when exposed to a lot of heat cycles. @@w6qd

Good stuff sir! See ya next time!
Thanks!
Did they send out a recall notice to customers? I purchased mine at Lowe's, end of 2022 on a sale. Thanks for the video
I'm not sure. We posted a sign in the showroom and contacted everyone we sold one to.
Due to reported fires caused by arcing is my understanding. 👍🍻
Thanks, I heard that as well but not from official sources so i didn't repeat it.
That’s what my recap notice said as well.
Hey Scott, sounds like you got the crud. hope your better fast. is there an easy way to test a husqvarna coil off the unit? Do you have a video?
Sorry, I'm unaware of an easy test for those. Crud is geting better 🙂
could make video to demonstrate symtoms of leaking 2 stroke crank seals for your amateur viewers thanks

I bet theirs a backlog on parts for replacement. Have you had any difficult or backlog on warranty parts. Thank you

Thanks for another great video Scott.
You sound a bit off voice wise Scott, hope you're feeling better soon
Seems like you used a torque wrench a lot. Studying about rejuvenating coils. Any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks, I am feeling better. @@alans.4658

The 130l is a beast machine has performed very well with no problems until someone stole it from me just a few days ago
That stinks.
I been told it's because they been shorting out an causing it to catch on fire just had mine fixed at my dealer
Yes I read the service bulletin fully after I made the video and you are correct.
I wonder why Hysqvarna has had so much difficulty with coils.

@@TheGreasyShopRag Well, at this point the "cheap" theory is biting husky in the arse as there are a huge number in the recalls.
