One of my very favourite actors being interviewed by one of the very best interviewers in Brian Linehan. Thanks for uploading this and allowing us all to watch. “They say you do that, and you did it!” Duvall to Linehan, complimenting him on his research.
@ I'm in MO, USA. In 1983 I was in the 3rd grade and my parent's wouldn't have watched anything like this. It wouldn't have been on the channels we had, in any case. I never had a television myself after about 1997, or 98.
@@inspectorfunk THX 1138 and Rain People are two films he did earlier before The Godfather I and II. Other performances he did in 1960s are including Countdown and True Grit. If you want earlier acting there are TV series he did in early 1960s. He appeared in one episode of Route 66 and The Twilight Zone
Amazing these golden kind of interviews are kept for posterity on RUclips. Lt Col Kilgore was actually a cleverly conceived character that should have got more screen time in Apocalypse Now.
I've always felt Duvall in "Tender Mercies", Denzel in "Malcolm X", DeNiro in "Raging Bull" and Daniel Day Lewis in "There Will Be Blood" are best male actor performances of all time. Denzel is only one that didn't win the Oscar that year.
Yeah, but Pacino got his Oscar that year, his only Oscar, which was given for all the years HE didn't win and/or get nominated. And with all due respect to Denzel, and Denzel's performance in Malcom X (which was fine, but not the greatest thing ever), Pacino definitely deserved his Oscar. That was THE story that year - are they going to snub Pacino yet again? - not that Denzel was robbed of an Oscar in an ok-biopic made for dummies too lazy to read the book.
Brian is possibly the best interviewer of all time including all the greats. Such a shame talents and like his and indeed Duvall don't exist anymore, no more intellect and depth and knowledge and no time given to these attributes in this modern age, now we have Will Smith slapping someone!
I was thinking about that too! Not only are Brian's questions in depth and knowledgeable but he gives Robert amble time to answer and doesn't cut him off, great to see.

@Jim Newcombe Harris worked with Brando on Mutiny On The Bounty and later, opposite Duvall in Wrestling Ernest Hemingway. Harris' judgement may have been clouded by Brando's unruly behaviour on set. Hard to believe Duvall is 90 years old!
I've always loved Bobby, surprised about a little thing that slipped through this interview where he's talking about being on set with DeNiro and mentions: I'm too prejudice to be married to a black woman, something in my past I might not do... Not really something I wanted to hear from one of my heroes... This is an old interview though so I don't know. I'd like to think otherwise nowadays...
I was surprised by his praise for Ken Loach at the end - Duvall doesn't act in Loach-esque stuff I would say. I'd like to know what a conservative republican like himself would think of Loach's other films. If anyone knows of another interview where he talks about it, link me up please.
Brian is one of the best interviewers I've ever watched--funny, dignified and focused! These shows of his are such a gift to watch!

Making all these great interviews accessible for us is hugely appreciated. Thank you!
I came here for Duvall, and found Linehan (whom I have never heard of).
Linehan is truly awesome.
where do you live that you have never heard of him?

Glad I fell upon these interviews! What a joy. Thank
Excellent interview. Duvall is one of the best, and surprisingly straightforward here ... no artifice!
Robert duval has a very captivating presence
He is The Great Santini!
These old guard actors are such treasures. Duvall, Hackman, Eastwood, Hoffman, JE Jones, McQueen, Newman early Stallone several others.
if Brian is reading this you have a great voice your a great interviewer you really know how to get the questions out of your target
Sadly Brian died in 2004
Wow this guy is a incredible interviewer. Bravo 👏.
thanks for this, I wish we saw more of him as a young character, so much of him is playing these senior roles
Watch 'To Kill a Mockingbird' w/Gregory Peck. Duvall is a young blond man (25 years?) in it. "Hey Boo."

Wow, Brian Linehan does his homework. What a delight.
Thank you thank you thank you! Love this interview.
Great interview, thanks for posting.
Part Barbara Walters, Part Actors Studio, Part Bob Ross. Could listen to Brian speak on repeat. Great interviewer.
I know Im pretty randomly asking but do anybody know of a good place to watch newly released series online ?
@Jefferson Yahir lately I have been using FlixZone. Just google for it :)

For my money the greatest American film actor.
Tier 1+ definitely. Interesting and not suprising he likes Hackman the best.

Richard Harris, whom worked with many greats, called Duvall the "greatest actor i've ever worked with, including Brando".
I love Duvall but better than Brando?! Nah.
Ps Harris hated Brando.

I’m just wondering if he’s still acting. He’s got to be close to 90 by now

I dont think Duvall is a classic conservative. He's much more nuanced than that.
Same eyes as bob de niro.
I think they did have a little bit of resemblance though. Explaining why they both were cast as brothers in True Confessions
Face looks a bit like De Niro in the thumbnail.
