I don't imagine how good and effective is a sawed off shotgun!!!! I love it... but mine is in 12" gauge, you know a real man sawed off double barrel shotgun 👍🤣
Ithaca firearms made a series of sawed off shotguns in the 1920s called the Auto and Burglar that could be had in either 12 or 20 gauge with pistol grips and roughly 10 inch barrels that they advertised for home or store defense as well as for defense in your car from hijackers.
Ah the younger generation. He says: "If you want to Jack Sparrow this bad boy..." The older generation would say: "If you want to Mad Max this bad boy..."
2 things. 1-my question was answered as far as what length barrels are necessary to get a meaningful scatter pattern inside the close confines of the home. You need to get down to 10" for descent spread. 2- I would have to keep the full stock as I think they look better. BTW Great video!
I suggest having a gunsmith port the barrel to divert gas, reducing overall recoil slightly, and if diverted up, it of course helps reduce the powerful tendency to swing up and out of the hand. Just a suggestion from a guy who uses his 19" barrel 12 guage for everything. It kicked like a mule before I posted the barrel, afterwards it has what I would call a lighter recoil but it's still a bit harsh compared to a 45-70gvt. I'm considering porting slightly farther up the length to begin releasing excess gasses sooner. Plus since mine is break action, single shot, I like to fire gun darts from it, which are awesome and I would recommend using for any kind of distance shooting from a short barrel shotgun lol. Fin stabilized, shortened, and weighted crossbow bolts, fitted into a shot cup and secured in place with a custom plastic sabot. I'll make a video of arrows some day, deer season here though so not for a week at least.
I would prefer a short stock that makes shoulder contact. I had some pistol grip shotguns, but I ended up replacing the pistols grip with factory stocks and cutting the stocks to fit my shoulder. A much better deal all the way around.
What I'd like to know is, is there a process to go through where a fellow could cut down his own shotgun into a AOW, or are only gun manufacturers allowed to do this?
Regarding AOW weapons, my question may be moot at this point. Mossberg currently (2023) no longer makes AOW's with less than an 18.5" barrel. Shorter barrels seem to have gone by the wayside as have 'Bump Stocks', 'Pistol braces' etc. Well, at least in regards to pistols, there is still the 'pistol rest' such as the USAOneshot.@@erictripps125

@bert smith The iconic double barrel. If you just want a sawn off and looks doesn't matter that much, its much cheaper to craft one from a single barrel shotgun and spent a lot less.
The barrel release lever catches you right in the webbing between the thumb and the pointer finger. That's the only real bad thing about not having a full stock on a sawed off.

If a company were to produce these from scratch with rifles barrels, they would be considered handguns correct? I know that would make the thing useless past about 10 feet but itd still make a fun range toy without the tax stamp.
Aguila mini shells in 12 gauge. Come in bird, buck and slugs. Still throw 12 gauge loads but don't kick so much. Perfect for sawed off 12 gauge personal protection!
This is obviously a two hand weapon. It needs a guard on the front of the forestock to keep the hand from slipping forward and blowing off a good finger. Three-quarter inch bulge of cheap wood might save it.
