I just went back to watch this video again, Shara. I like it even more this time. I had saved it to my one of my RUclips file spots. Now that lumber has gone down a little, I'm going to build a tilting trash can enclosure for my younger daughter. I'm going to begin by copying your basic design. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Well done! Appreciate the video as i'm doing a tilt out corner cabinet for the laundry room. This video gave me some great ideas for the hinging of the tilt out.
I'm about to build something similar and was looking for how others approach this. I had in my head that I would use some kind of horizontal dowel as a hinge pin and hadn't considered standard euro hinges. Watching your video changed my approach. Using the hinges can also provide the added benefit of a soft close - thanks!
So glad you found it helpful! There are probably several good ways to do it, but so far so good...this has been working great for a couple years now 🙌😄
I'm looking to build a custom laundry chute hamper. Thank you for making this video and leading me in the right direction! All the techniques I need to bring my idea to life are right here.
Hi! You can definitely get creative with other ways of cutting down your pieces to limit the amount of saws you would need. The saw guides, bandsaw, and shelf pin jig are definitely optional. You can find more info on the build and the tools needed here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/diy-tilt-out-laundry-hamper/
You got this! You just have to start. The determination has to come from yourself and you just have to decide to try. I’m self taught so I just learn by doing.
@@WoodshopDiaries I feel like mistakes could be expensive. I will give it some thought. I have no excuses...I am retired and my father was a carpenter. There should be some of that ability on my blood. Lol. I want to make a hamper cabinet/tower for my bathroom. I would hate to screw up on good wood. Maybe I should try modifying an existing cabinet.
Hi there! Built this and LOVE it, but i'm having trouble finding laundry hampers that fit in it. Can you tell me where you got the ones shown in the video? Or at least what the dimensions of them are? Thanks in advance!
Kelsey Alcala hi! I’m so glad you built this project and love it! The link to the hampers I used can be found along with links to everything else I used to build this project in this post here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/diy-tilt-out-laundry-hamper-cabinet/
Love your videos, I made one just like the one on your video and it was really nice but I use compressed wood for top and sides but when paint it I didn't like the way it looks so my question is ...do you have any suggestions on how to paint compressed wood and make it looks nice???
I’m not sure what you mean by compressed wood? Do you mean plywood? I use plywood all the time for my projects and paint them just like I’d paint anything else. But, I use high quality birch hardwood plywood (basically cabinet grade plywood) and that makes a big difference. Regular rough pine or treated plywood won’t be smooth enough to give you a nice finish.
I’m not sure what your exact issue is to fix. You just said it doesn’t look like you wanted, but I’m not sure what exactly that means. I’d suggest priming if you haven’t already. And a thorough sanding between coats of paint.
That turned out great! I have been searching for a good video guide on how to make one of these! I am looking at making one with 3 tilt outs. Is this cabinet pretty sturdy? I was considering doing a custom walnut and epoxy piece for the top and just wanted to make sure that it can withstand the weight of the top piece if I take that route. Thanks for the video!
I couldn’t find any that fit, that’s why I used the fabric/canvas type. I can’t remember off the top of my head, but the plans have the door dimensions that you can try to match 👍
@@WoodshopDiaries I want to build this but I have a slight addition to it that I'd like to try and was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to do it. Would your website be the best way to reach out since I have a picture of the addition that I'd like to make to this piece. Thank you!
Just remember that using glue on end grain is almost rendered useless as the end grain absorbs the majority of the glue, hence why most people use some kind of joinery (half lap, mortise and tenon etc.) then use wood glue. Amazing build though, came out awesome.
when I do this type, I tend to use a router, rout a channel until about half an inch from the end, and wedge in another piece of wood. You can't see it once assembled, but MAN does it make a difference
I’m planning to copy your garage kitchen exactly. I’ve started ordering my tools. How would I modified this design to match those doors? Thank you for great tutorials.
Happy building! You could just cut half round molding and glue on the fronts of the plywood doors just like this project. Nothing else would have to change if you just glued that on top.
These are inset hinges. You can learn how to choose the correct hinges for your project here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/how-to-choose-cabinet-door-hinges/ And see the installation of these hinges in step 6 here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/diy-tilt-out-laundry-hamper/

I love that you have your work space and tools. I hope one day I will too. Thank you for instructions. On my to do list
I would love to do this, but it looks like I'd need a lot of equipment I don't currently have. Beautiful work!
Super project! Love the function!! I was thinking it would also make a good trash/recycling station in kitchen or garage!
I could watch your videos all day you do amazing work you are very good
I appreciate that! Thank you!

Amazing work can’t believe the way you handle the furniture weight ❤️❤️
Thank you!
Absolutely love this build! Great work
Southern Style DIY thank you!!
Hey audio sounds great! Good stuff. I highly recommend the kreg foreman if you do pocket holes all the time like I have to. Sped up everything a lot.
zteknon thank you!! I need a foreman for sure!!
After tearing the tendons and ligaments in my right elbow last year, I second this! If I could justify the money, I would get one in a heartbeat!
Simple yet elegant design...thank you

Bad ass!!
Great and accurate!!
Love it!!
Thank you for sharing!! 😊👍🏼👌🏼
I literally came across this as I was about to try to build something like this for the trash cans! You are so helpful!

It looks like this requires a lot of tools! Is there any way to make this with limited tools? Love how it turned out!! 😍

I’ve got them linked on the blog post here. 👍
How do you think it would work if I enclosed the entire back? I am going to do 3 tilt outs instead on the shelves in the middle.

Thank you! Yep, it’s sturdy. No issues with it so far after over a year of daily use. I’d say it should be fine with a heavier top.
@@WoodshopDiaries Thanks for the response! If I were to use plastic laundry baskets, do you know what size I'd have to get so they fit in the doors?
I couldn’t find any that fit, that’s why I used the fabric/canvas type. I can’t remember off the top of my head, but the plans have the door dimensions that you can try to match 👍

When you made the top with 2x10’s would it still be durable if I wer to use a 2” strip of other wood in between the 2 2x10’s?
If you use wood glue and/or join them then yes.
Good job !

Could you specify what hinges you used? I bought some concealed inset but they aren’t working with the design. I think it’s maybe due to the overlay?
