This episode, more than any other, has the most in common with the original inspiration - TNG 7x15 Lower Decks. In which the story was told from the perspective of 4 ensigns, doing tasks on the periphery of a secret mission without any idea of that mission.
Rutherford was just like Moon Knight in this episode.
Mariner is bad ass. I have a soft spot for the unassuming but deadly Tendi, this little green pixie stole my heart ^^.

Yes, that is John deLancie as Q. Any character they put on this show that has previously been in Star Trek, they get the actor to come and do the voice for them, every time, even the really obscure characters like Sonya Gomez and Leah Brahms. THAT is why we love this show most of all, the attention to detail and the respect and reverence for what has come before.
And one of the reasons we love Star Trek is that when the ask the actor to reprise the role they are nearly all happy to do so.
Guinan and Mariner... the only things in the universe that Q fears are strong black women that don't need no man.
This is my favorite S1 episode.
And Tendi's story 100% fact.
Kat you’re going to love the later seasons they really flesh out Beckett’s character and her arc and growth is amazingly written and performed.
Tendi. A ray of sunshine, optimism, and science!
And she's a martial arts master, capable of defeating multiple armed guards solo...

An early, literal, outing of Tendi with her unwanted Orion heritage of being such a badass. Thank goodness she is a sweet, nice person...

As a former lower enlisted person, this episode hits home lol
the 'so done with weird shit today' looks on their faces while Mariner rants at Q gets me every time. the way she talks to him without consequence implies they've have previous encounters where Mariner came out on top, if anyone else spoke to him like that he'd snap them out of existence so i'd love to know what's happened between them
One little scene and you know how badass she is when she actually tries instead of just goofing off with her friends. She could easily be a Starfleet captain or be doing secret squirrel missions with special forces but she'd rather get drunk and party on the holodeck with her mates.

The comic (Sons of Star Trek) really shows that she would be a great Captain.
@@ChibiHoshiDragon The show hints that she was on the fast track for promotion but burnt out from stress and is now just enjoying life. Such a real character for a goofy animated show.

I’d say this was the episode that made me fall in love with Lower Decks
I really do feel it’s the one where it finally found its voice. It’s my go-to for which episode people should watch if they want to try out the show.
Same here. This episode is where I realized LD was my favorite new Trek production since the end of DS9.

Magistrate Clar was the voice of.. Kurtwood Smith! Most familiar to me forever as the villainous Clarence Boddicker in Robocop, but probably familiar to others as Red Forman from That ‘70s Show. BUT.. he’s also played 3 other different characters in Star Trek VI, DS9, and VOY, so he has a history contributing to the Star Trek universe!

Once the Gals are done with Lower Decks (or just want a break for something different), I would suggest Star Trek: Prodigy. I feel like it would fit _right_ into the Galifre Gals' type of content.
They will lose their minds for what happens in season 2.
DS9 is still my favorite Trek, but this has become my second fave.

The salt vampire was a call back to The Original Series (TOS or Those Old Scientists)...
One thing I like about this episode is that when you think about it Starfleet really is (mostly) the best of the best out of trillions of sentient beings. Even the goofiest lower-decker tends to be hyper-competent in a variety of things.
That reminds me, I need to stock up on eels for my next party.
And NOW we know the first name of all of our crew. So Klar is voiced by Red Foreman himself Kurtwood Smith In his third trek based roll. The other two of which being the federation president In star trek six the undiscovered country and in a Voyager 2 parter. Now there is obviously event. A joke about only having 22 minutes for the ceremony. And of course, We get the return of john delanci as q. Also I am surprised that she did not recognize the name Veritas.Given , it is the facsimile episode in season with twelve, Nardole and bill( Notable points in that episode is him telling bill that he has permission to kick the Doctor's ass And then he mentions a holodeck)
I'm loving your reactions to this show! This episode is one of my favorites in S1; it's such a fun spin on Star Trek's alien trial trope!

I mean... Sisko socked him across the face but good, and he didn't come back after that.
The only live action show I know that acknowledged the length of its episodes was Stargate: SG-1, when they kept saying that a gate can only stay open for 38 minutes max
Neat thing I only just learned today (that everyone else probably already knows) Rutherford's VA (Eugene Cordero) was Jamie the Mailman in Steven Universe!
This was the episode where I realized Lower Decks was my favorite new Trek thing since the end of DS9 (Prodigy has since tied it).

What gave it away for me was that at the beginning of the episode, look at the castle, or tower that the 'trial' was going to happen in.
There's a balloon hanging off the front bit. THAT told me some sort of party was about to take place.
Kat, Doctor Who series 10 'Extremis', the text that basically told everyone they were in a simulation was called Veritas.

I love this show so much! I watched all 4 seasons for mmmaaaaybe my 8th time, a couple nights ago, and had so much fun!
Mariner is certainly one of my favourite Starfleet Ensigns, amongst my other faves: Ezri Dax, Pavel Chekov, Ro Laren, Seska, and Harry Kim.
Ezri is great. I think there's a lot of her character in the Lower Decks DNA. She'd fit right in on the USS Cerritos.

I know it's a comedy, but this is a legitimate Star Trek production. Any cameo or guest star is going to be the original actor. Just like it would be on any other Star Trek show.

oh yes another great videi. i wondering if the frequency of these videos might increase when u finish watching other series, you ladies are such a good fit for sassy, irreverant trek. i love that mariner talks to q like a misbehaving dog lol, the season finale is amazing and more serious than the average episode and might hit pretty hard
I wish we could, but unfortunately I can not keep up with that pace of video releases. It's just me behind the scenes editing and running all of the production shenanigans. I hope to one day reach the point of being able to acquire some outside help!

I hope you're considering watching some of The Animated Series from the '70's between seasons of Lower Decks. LD has a lot of references to that series.
I'm very glad that the Animated Series from the '70s exists. That said, this happens to be the one and only example I can think of, that a head-to-head comparison, a contemporary Trek series blows away one from 50 years ago. (Technical and visual effects, is the metric that's most immediately obvious. But the LD quality of writing - how they think about the characters, what they were aiming for, story arcs and genuine surprises - No contest. ...The Animated Series had one truly SPECTACULAR episode (("Yesteryear," by D.C. Fontana)). But judged as a whole... if it were a boxing match between the 2 series, it wouldn't be allowed to proceed once the contestants stepped onto the ring - think 'Clubber Lang' from Rocky 3 against a toddler.). :)
The time of Gallifrey Gals is better invested in Lower Decks. I would watch their reaction to "Yesteryear," but not to any of the other Animated Series eps.
It's not really about any kind of quality or content comparison between the two but about replicating their pattern of watching TOS episodes in between seasons of TNG. LD has a lot of references to TAS, Doctor T'Ana being a Caitian like M'Ress, the Edosian director of "The Farm", the Vendorian in "Envoys", the artwork of Kirk and Spock that we'll see in a couple episodes. I'm not advocating for a complete watch-through, just one or two episodes to give a little breathing room between seasons of LD.

@@Vipre- I have very recently posted the first of a 3-part series on Tendi, to YT. I would like to have people watch it (including parts 2 and 3 when they're posted), but for Kat and Paula, the timing is wrong: the video would spoil too much for them; they're better off watching it when they've caught up thru LD season 4. Yep, context is everything!... :)
Please, watch Star Trek:Strange New Worlds S2E7 "Those Old Scientists" at the end of this season. I don't care if you watch any other episode of Strange New Worlds.
