After a lifetime of playing Bach I just discovered the cantatas, even got a notebook to track my favorite arias and movements, I really appreciate having someone else's opinion.
Wohl euch, ihr auserwählten Seelen from No.34 'O ewiges Feuer, o Ursprung der Liebe' is for me the most moving - yet the opening aria from 82 Ich habe genug is the one they always play .. It's the same with Matthaus Passion where 'Mach dich mein herz rein' always brings me to tears while Pater's Lament Erbarme dich does not
One of my favourites not included here, actually two - the alto aria and tenor aria from BWV 161 'Komm du susse Todesstunde' and 'Mein verlangen ist bei Christo'.
Not including "Mit allem, was ich hab und bin" from bwv 72 on this list is unforgivable. It's the most badass aria I have ever heard besides perhaps "Deposuit potentes" from the Magnificat.
About the "ratings" -- give the uploader a break! In this case, it's just another way to say "I like this aria even more than this one." Some people find using numbers useful -- Bach enjoyed numbers too.
+jsbrules Well said! Thank you.Nothing wrong with quantifying personal preferences--and FPC clearly put thought into it. I personally see value in prioritizing among favorites--helps me identify what I like most about this as compared to that. Anyway, it's just one person's list.. and a real pleasure to listen to...
He took the time to listen through all of these cantatas and came up with a personal preference.. This is not offensive, it is devotion, admiration, hard work and a great service to all of us Bach-lovers out there.
I guess I shouldn't be amazed that someone is engaged in exactly the same project as myself. Bach is worth every minute spent on it.

This is incredible, I can't imagine how long this must have taken you. If you want, you should try the chorales too! Brilliant work!
Thanks for your time with the formatting of this upload. It's appreciated!

Yes I Mache dich is incredible, I have trouble rating great music I prefer to say I like them all

Just amazing. It is a very hard task to classify all Arias, more that there are all beautiful. Thanks !
These are beautiful. Thank you for uploading these!

Thank you for great uploading!
Thank you very much for this!
Any reason the opening soprano aria from BWV 15, Süßer Trost, mein Jesus kömmt, is not on your list?
Grazie!!!!
I love cantata BWV 51 the most. I think we have similar taste.
Anyway, I wonder your opinion on Tenor Aria BWV 1 "Unser Mund und Ton der Saiten" ?? :D
This is a great upload. No sure about the gradings. What is your basis?
I'm going to guess that his basis for ranking is his own emotional response to the piece, which no one can question.

Great resource for beautiful arias, but the rating is a terrible Idea. much appreciated anyway
my LEAST favorite performance of BWV 78 'Jesu, der du meine Seele' - Duetto; the girls take turns indulging in bad intonation
That is a woman and a man singing. Not two girls
Rating great works of art with percentage points in this way is profoundly offensive.
I agree with you
Henry Wyld I didn't know say what you prefer is profoundly offensive. Maybe bigotry is.
That's your opinion? this is mine.
The rating is only ranking the hearer's emotional response to the music. How can this be offensive?
