For a character that was introduced 5 years ago, Olaf has seen almost as many evolutions as the other characters have had in decades. Nicely done video, Dan.
or else things are just better documented now that EVERYBODY has a camera phone.. keeping in mind for the first 40+ years of the parks, most parents were still carrying pre-digital cameras, with film that had to be purchased, then developed, etc, meaning ppl were considerably more selective with what they'd photograph.. i'm sure there were probably dozens of variations of older characters that there just isn't any documentation of online..
I remember going to Disneyland the same week as frozen came out . My parents wanted me and my sisters to meet the frozen princess’s and watch frozen in-park. They found out the times when lines would be shortest.... but that meant meeting the characters before seeing the movie. I remember proudly walking up to Anna & Elsa, handing them my signature book and exclaiming “I don’t know who you are”
Huh. Never occurred how awful it would be if dirty kids stained the mascot outfits. Makes the whole idea of mascot costumes, especially white ones like Olaf, way more impressive to me
The problem with that is how are they going to design a cloud that hangs above him? Actually, they could just have a balloon cloud filled with helium that hangs above him.
He Dosent get the cloud till the end of the show. He melts multiple times in the show so if he already had the flurry cloud Elsa makes him it wouldn’t make sense
Let's face it, the moment "Frozen" became a mega blockbuster (it still holds the world record for the highest grossing animated film ever), Disney thought that this was their ticket to more profit. It's like back in the 90s when the Disney Renaissance was happening and each movie was a blockbuster and Disney added attractions almost instantly to bring in the new generation that was loving movies like "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin".
Me at 10:13: “Huh, that kinda looks like that shot I filmed that one time” Then I realized it WAS my shot and it made my day! Thanks Disney Dan for your awesome content, glad I could assist with B-Roll!
Yeti Man I agree! Maybe Frozen Ever After should move to Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom or a different building in the Norway Pavilion next to Maelstrom!
The first costumed Elsa in this video, to me she looked pregnant. Like and comment if you agree. Edit: Oh jeez I’ve never gotten this many likes😂 thanks you guys so much!
Olaf on broadway will always hold my heart. My theater professor is married to Elsa(Cassie Levy) so the show became a big part of our lives as a department.
frozen on broadway looks so cool, i really wanna see it. the way they have the puppeteer on stage in themed outfits reminds me a lot of lion king on broadway.
Tia Fogle YEAH! They could’ve built a new Frozen ride in a much different show building that’s across from the Maelstrom ride and its show building so it could be a proper ride retelling of the film’s story! I want that to happen and they should also put in a carousel with reindeer, polar bears, and other animals!
same here, but now that there are much worse things out there (i.e. Universal's Fast and Furious Supercharged, and more recently, Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy at Disney Hollywood Studios), the ride isn't so bad.
They closed Muppet Vision for That snowman?! The last work Jim Henson did, was replaced by a shoehorned, cheap, rushjob musical cash in?! Then, they closed Aladdin the Musical for the same thing... I'm not stunned or bitter, not one bit.
Replaced the incredibly popular maelstrom ride in Epcot too...I'm not bitter and sad that I'll never again get that awesome view over a waterfall/face a giant troll beast...nope, not at all. (It's a good ride though, but it really should have been a fantasyland ride..)
thankfully the hyperion show is pretty well crafted! definitely agree the singalong was rushed, but at least one of the replacements is something of quality. :)
6:09 You think this is funny? In a cosmic sort of way yes. Well Mr. Funny Man, is this how you get your sick kicks? What it’s just an ordinary Olaf puppe-OH MY GOODNESS! SQUIDWARD!
never had any idea character design so simple could have so much thought put into it! gotta say i looooove the puppertier design with the snow miser look- esp with the orange glasses? amazing. the showmanship style suit, the glam, its like olafs dream as a little performer as a human,,, so pretty. and the full white pupperier outfit is rlly cool too- a human snowman! so cute! but also gives the idea of a human made of of magical snow hehe
Wow after only just being released nearly five years ago, we never knew that Olaf’s looks had gone through so many modifications. I loved all of the designs. Except for the Hong Kong puppet show what was up with that? Anyway I got to go to Disney World nearly two years ago just so I could check out that ride, and I absolutely loved the designs for the characters. I always thought that animatronics were creepy. But that was just pretty cool. Thanks for the video. Could you do all the other characters from Frozen please? I’d love to see their revolutions too.
Olaf: HELLO! My Name Is Me: ELDER PRICE AND I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU - Olaf: Olaf And I like warm hugs Me: oh... Sorry I'm obsessed with Broadway Imagine Olaf in BOM
Now that FROZEN is now on Broadway, what's the fate of the production at the Hyperion Theater? If the Hyperion theater production closes, I know what could go in its place. NEWSIES!!
I love how the Olaf puppeteers costume in the broadway musical of frozen even has the orange Pom Pom on top to symbolize a carrot nose. Subtle but it definitely adds to the theme of the costume.
We've been getting quite a few recents so far. 2 CGI characters in a row. I vote the next video features a character with long history and segues from the snowman perfectly by giving us the history of Snow White. Who's with me?
I love the Broadway Olaf the most but I’m also very biased! I just think the puppet and costume are both soooooo gorgeous! I also love the animatronic on Frozen Ever After
I did a Frozen jr. musical one summer and for Olaf we just used a onesie for his costume. Problem with that is where we were preforming was a very warm place.
9:18 oh, I remember going to Hong Kong Disney land and watching that. The lines took forever to get into the theatre. And I needed glasses but, I left them at home. The reason I needed glasses is because the translations of the words they were saying that I could not understand were at the side of the theatre. We tried to zoom in with a phone in the camera app, but it kept going blurry and it was annoying.
Just saw the musical ! Olaf also does have a decapitated state in the musical as well, when they fall off the cliff. His abdomen, torso, and head are detached, spread out on the stage, and definitely a different puppet than the one attached to the actor. Anna picks up his head and operates his mouth while Olaf's actor says the lines from off stage. His "butt" also is remote controlled and finds it way off stage followed by Anna and Kristoff throwing his head and torso off stage for the actor to return. It was SO cute and so well done.
Imagine a robot looking like Olaf that can walk around freely, balance properly and interact with guests. Maybe be remote controlled by a performer who can see the guests through tiny cameras.
I remember Disney was doing a live action play of frozen with the actor who played Olaf, and the Olaf actor said these lines: In the winter I like to cuddle, But in the summer I like to be a..... and then this guy in the audience said: A PUDDLE! And then Olaf flipped out at that guy. It was pretty funny!
i recently went on a cruise on the disney fantasy ship, and the frozen show had an olaf puppet that works like the one used in frozen: live at the hyperion at disney california adventure; the person behind him even looked similar to that show's actor with a dark outfit
I saw frozen the musical in April and really think that’s the best stage Olaf. His organic look and string like connections between the feet body and head are much more enjoyable and fluid then the Hyperion.

I remember proudly walking up to Anna & Elsa, handing them my signature book and exclaiming “I don’t know who you are”
How did they react?
What reslly strikes me the most in this video is how much frozen changed and took over...
Huh. Never occurred how awful it would be if dirty kids stained the mascot outfits. Makes the whole idea of mascot costumes, especially white ones like Olaf, way more impressive to me
AnvilPro100 I imagine Olaf’s skin can be separated from the body pod for easy laundering, they must have loads of backups though.
I think the Puppeteer should have been a cloud keeping Olaf cold so he won’t melt
The problem with that is how are they going to design a cloud that hangs above him? Actually, they could just have a balloon cloud filled with helium that hangs above him.
He Dosent get the cloud till the end of the show. He melts multiple times in the show so if he already had the flurry cloud Elsa makes him it wouldn’t make sense

darthstarkiller1912 the classics are the best, no matter how many movies you make.
For me Frozen was really boring, it had too much singing
darthstarkiller1912 I want an Aladdin magic carpet roller coaster/dark ride hybrid ride along with a dark ride for The Lion King!
Exactly the same thing that happened with The Lion King after it was released.
Me at 10:13: “Huh, that kinda looks like that shot I filmed that one time” Then I realized it WAS my shot and it made my day! Thanks Disney Dan for your awesome content, glad I could assist with B-Roll!

Yep

I would like, but it's at 69
Wow, for not being around for long Olaf has gone through alot of changes!
How about the Evolution of The Lion King characters at Disney Parks? Please do it and make it happen!
I actually really like the style they went with for the Olaf-puppet in Hong Kong. It kinda resembles that classic puppet-look from those old TV-shows!
That first Hong Kong Olaf puppet looks like one of those bootleg disney dolls you find in dollar stores
I have no pupppet
Ppftt true!!
That olaf puppet looks like a abadonbed muppet from 1967
It looks like an offbrand Olaf you find in the clearance section of the dollar store, and it’s named “Happy Snowman”
Do yiu think you could do my favorite character Stitch next.
Fandom Random YES! STITCH!

would you ever consider doing lumiere and/or cogsworth?

YES I WILL
I wanna like but it's at 69
Decapitated Olaf is best Olaf.
Weegeemaker 320 iOS like Olaf if he wasn’t in that movie
Yes. Then it would be R rated and I wouldn't have to watch Frozen 3 times over for a school music assignment.
Weegeemaker 320 I have a soap bottle that requires beheading him every time I use it.
The real reason most people clicked the video.
Agreed
Would you ever consider doing a DIStory on Buzz lightyear?
Very soon! ;)
Ellen Barrett YEAH! Along with other Toy Story characters than Buzz Lightyear and the Toy Story Aliens!
Olaf on broadway will always hold my heart. My theater professor is married to Elsa(Cassie Levy) so the show became a big part of our lives as a department.
That puppet one in that truck thing you mentioned is just... 😖
The evolution of Disney on Ice would be interesting! And woah Olaf has got many changes over the past 5 years! Good video again! :)
Olaf's human puppeteer with the blue swoop of hair and tail coat was friggin' adorable. I love that iteration!
frozen on broadway looks so cool, i really wanna see it. the way they have the puppeteer on stage in themed outfits reminds me a lot of lion king on broadway.
And I'm not bitter at all about losing the Maelstrom ride in Norway...not. at. All.
I am too. The frozen ride is Awful!!
Spirit Kitten I’m not bitter about it either!

thankfully the hyperion show is pretty well crafted! definitely agree the singalong was rushed, but at least one of the replacements is something of quality. :)
I remember when Frozen came out. I was 7 years old. I would watch it over and over and over and over and over. I would sing let it go Non-Stop.

It will stay there for a solid 10 years or so. They dumped a ton of cash into it, and it’s a huge population absorber.

I can't help but feel like Olaf is patronizing, overmarketed, and just tries too hard to be cute and lovable. Great work on the video though!
Hyperspace Oddity Hell no! That's only the minions. They are used for every movie trailer for universal and it's annoying.
idk idc YEAH! Give the Minions a break and give the mascot role to another character like a pretty-much underrated character!
I still feel like he could go down that path if they're not careful.
I agree, to me he's Disney's version of a minion... Far from the best sidekick/comedic character they've done
So true.
I look forward to seeing these videos!! I’ve never been to any Disney theme park so I’m living through them!
Great video!!! Can you do stitch next? He’s my favorite costume character!!!
Animation Nation YEAH! Stitch from the Lilo and Stitch franchise along with Lilo and his cousins!

Your description of Olaf perfectly aligns with the general quality of Disneyland HK.
The head sticking out of Sven’s back is a little... unsettling to say the least
The parade of lights in Disneyland Paris had an Olaf animatronic in the Frozen Float too. I found him quite nicely done and lifelike.
Olaf is the best snowman ⛄️
Do the evolution of Guardians of the Galaxy at Disney parks, I love those movies!
Imagine a robot looking like Olaf that can walk around freely, balance properly and interact with guests. Maybe be remote controlled by a performer who can see the guests through tiny cameras.
Very interesting, he's still popular
Can't wait for more, think a trip to Wonderland's Distory is in the cards??
