- My newest project is finished and started break-in. They are sealed 2,5 way Scan-Speak beryllium Illuminator tweeters with 18 cm Revelator woofers. Sounds great already, I might lower a little tweeter level later on but for now just enjoying these really one of the best speakers available. Playing with new GEKT-88 tubes and now upgraded with Miflex caps Mingda amplifier. 😉
fb is too high in that concept, at least for me...the high and midrange for sure is superb with that drivers
Jak te kolumny maja sie do pylon jasper ? Tam tez wykorzystane scan speak revelatory.. pochylone obudowy w pylonach zapobiegaja falom stojacym.. roznica pewnie w zwrotnicy i wygluszeniu..
That sounds really terrible. Your room is very reverberant.
Unfortunately It sounds worse recorded on by my phone, but You hear Your speakers not mine they must be really bad.
Sound beautiful! Put me in a trance... : )
Greetings Artur - Wonderful build and they sound/look gorgeous. I am planning to build the Zaph ZRT 2.5 sealed and was wondering if you had to make any adjustments to the crossover when upgrading to the beryllium tweeter that you used. Thanks in advance and also for providing some inspiration.
Apologies and please disregard. I just saw that you posted the answer in one of your other
replies.
I adjusted the value of tweeter's resistor as it was little too loud for me.
How do you find these compare to your lii 10 crystal design, I cannot decide whether to build a speaker using lii driver or top end scanspeak drivers, your opinion would be greatly appreciated
They both sound great, Scanspeaks played for only few hours so they still need some break-in and it's too soon for final judgment but Crystal 10s are gone and these are staying that says something. They're are more universal for pretty much any kind of music unlike fullrange drivers. The only thing I might change in the future is to build a 3 or 3,5 way speakers with them. I'm really curious how they would sound with Scanspeak's dome midrange drivers.
They look amazing!
Where are your crossovers at? One at 3500 and one really low? Loke 200hz or something like that?
They sound amazing too!
It's a 2,5 way design one is crossed at around 1200Hz and another around 1700Hz. Everything is here: www.zaphaudio.com/ZRT.html
Great looking build. I am considering either 2.0 or 2.5, how did you decide to go for 2.5?
Since it's a closed enclosure, 2,5 way will have more bass and little higher efficiency for tube amp.
@@Artur19760512 I just built mines, and not too thrilled with the sound quality. Sound is too harsh, almost unlistenable. I had to drop the tweeter level with R0 increase from 2.2ohm to 5ohm. I am using original one, d3004/660000. We'll see if anything improves after break-in period. I have also built ZD5 long time ago which is still excellent.
@@DrZdravke I dropped tweeter level a little bit also, brak-in should help also. I'm also using them with SE tube amp which will sound different for transistor one too.
@@Artur19760512 which tweeter exactly did you use? They are playing much better now, I even shorted tweeter resistor completely.
Which tweeter exactly did you use?
Okay, well the Crystal 10's sounded really good, so you to ditch them after building these, does say something.
On top this , they are sealed which I would not expect! They do sound very good, even on RUclips, not mention look good as well. I think you may be partial to white ! Scanspeak drivers are top knotch.
Can I ask if you designed the whole project inc crossover and enclosure ? ( or is this a Zaphs Audio speaker kit ??? )
I have built the Troels Gravesen " Discovery 861 " DIY, my first. I now have 4 DIY projects on my short list ( its only going to be confusing, I know ) Though these Scanspeak drivers are not cheap, I would be keen to build these, can you shed some light ? many thanks. ( the Lil audio build would be much cheaper, one driver ( C10's now discontinued and reduced price, if still available )
Crystal 10s sounded really good but unfortunately only on some genres of music and on some like rock and more complex kind it showed it's weakness. These are more expansive but more universal for every type of music. Crystal 10s had this massive soundstage is felt like music is enveloping You from all directions which was vey special and on these soundstage seems like it's even further then the wall, but people's clapping for example which is very hard to reproduce realistically sounds way more natural on Scanspeaks and they also sound warmer, so might be more relaxing for listening for extended periods. I also substituted silk tweeters with beryllium illumintaros which are great and never harsh like some other metal tweeters can be. I modified Zaph's crossover with changing resistor on the tweeter from 2,2 to 3 as it was little to loud in my opinion. As with white color it's the only one my wife agrees on as it's our living room.😉
@@Artur19760512 Thanks for your detailed response. I will search the web for Zaphs Audio and see if I can make it happen. Regards
@@cruise2023 Zaph's Audio also have the same 2,5 way BR option if You want something with more bass and You can buy nice premade crossovers or whole kit with drivers on Madisound.😉
@@Artur19760512 Had a look at Zaphs Audio but found the site yrs old with no mention of the 2.5. I did find on Madisound the Zaphs Audio ZRT 2.5 kit so I assume this is it. Kit with options of upgraded crossover and acessories for either ported or sealed build. No mention on the BE tweeter!! Did you alter/change this yourself ? if I remember correctly with the BE tweeter, the crossover is the same as the Cresendo. Why the sealed over the ported?
@@cruise2023 yes I upgraded tweeter to beryllium and talked to Madisound and they told me as specs are very close no crossover modifications are necessary. I went with sealed as my speakers are standing pretty close to wall and my room is not very big so I didn't want too much bass.
This is the ones Zaph|Audio ZRT 2.5-Way, Revelator
Yes
@@Artur19760512 they sound amazing , I checked on line there’re is a two way but yours is three do they all sound the same
@@hamzatatta952 2,5 way have more bass as You have 2 bass drivers
@@Artur19760512 now I can understand why they are 1500 it’s got e. But people say that cross ❎ have interference with the acoustic n voices what’s your opinion on that.
@@hamzatatta952 every speaker in the world has some compromises, You have to choose which one sound the best for You.
