Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this RUclips channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
I just want to say that we need more of these kinds of videos! Such enlightenment about the Middle East and Iraq. As an American I feel like all we are taught about that part of the world is negative ☹️ You guys just keep sharing the love and opening some minds ❤️
Taylor White while this video was great, I’m a big supporter of the Kurds, there’s no denying it ain’t all sunshine and rainbows in the Middle East. Especially if you’re a woman in Iran or Saudi Arabia...
Well it is dangerous to go there especially if you don't do research and women should never travel to those places alone. Same with India and many other countries.
Kim D you are wrong my friend i am from kurdistan and it’s completely safe for women to go to alone , if you don’t have enough information about kurdistan please go check it out , it’s different from iraq , it’s an autonomous region we have our own parliament, culture , language, etc. under the name of iraq that is the only thing connected with iraq even we have our own army called peshmarga i hope you search for it too and erbil is one of the most safest cities over the world
If you Come to turkey, you can be my guest
Ramyar Rwandzy I'm sorry I didn't clarify I was referring to Iraq in general not Kurdistan. I know Kurdistan is different than other parts of the ME, but if a solo female were to end up in the wrong area it may not end well. The US embassy shows a level 4 danger alert because if someone crossed the border into areas of armed conflict they could be kidnapped, injured or killed. I'm by no means implying the Kurdish people are rude or violent or threatening, only that some female travelers (even in Europe) may face increased danger for traveling alone.

I always hear wonderful things about the people of Kurdistan. I am sure they appreciate tourists and are eager to show some hospitality.
Look at their faces they are glowing in happiness and from all the love and generosity they received from the Kurdish people. How lovely people!! Greetings from USA.
shame
That same happiness was on my face before I migrated to the US , now turned into a depressed Person like 90 percent of American people , if only Americans would treat us they way we treat them I would have been happy here too but unfortunately as a very skilled engineer it is almost impossible for me to get a very good job simply because that job is reserved for their fellow white Americans , here in America people are racist in a different way , they would nice to you but never give you the same opportunities given to Americans , not even close , the worst decision I have made in my life is that I quit a very good paying job in Iraq and came to this miserable country that is treating every skilled Iraqi as shit, basically America wants unskilled people to make them work in factories , they don’t want skilled and smart people to compete with them , especially if you are from Iraq , here everybody thinks we are stupid people who ride camels , so sad how a country was my dream turned out to be a nightmare for its own people let alone Iraqis
@@jang8826 I'm so sorry to hear this. There are good people in America, and we love and appreciate you more than you could imagine, but greedy people run this country. Before the war in Ukraine I'd been watching you guys for a few years. I was on the country 86/100 in the playlist. After a 3-month power blackout, I continued with the playlist. Every next country you went to was affected by war. As someone who unfortunately happened to know what is like, watching your experience there is still tremendously eye-opening and something I now can relate to. Everything we may hear or see on the media is often far from the truth. And most importantly, what everyday people are like. It melts my heart knowing that one day we can all live in peace again, travel safely, leave the prejudice behind and face a different reality from what we expected. Thank you so much for everything you do. Thank you for showing people the reality of life in different countries in the world! And thank you for your respect and kindness.

You brought tears into my eyes. And yes, how little we know about each other..😞
Stop watching the fake news media and the so called right wing media go out see for yourself.

Now let me change your attitude towards the region again. Google Louisa Jesperson and Maren Ueland. They had the same "attitude" and decided to wander off to the beaten track where the true hospitality of the locals was shown.
Karen Gibson, you are very welcome to visit our country and meet our generous people. Daniel Da Iraqis as general has always brother 😉❤️, from the Arabs to the Kurds back to the Assyrians, Ayzidis, Shabaks, etc.. , Iraqi people will always remain like that ❤️🇮🇶🇮🇶
Abdulrahman Abdullah why are you being so friendly?we don’t like you, neither does the yazidis neither the Assyrians
Your racist government prioritize the arabs ahead of us and if we try to speak for our rights they genocide us
Sugon dese My brother, first of all everyone treats the other in the way he was raised up by, and i was raised to love everyone, to love my country’s people, to spread peace and unity, that’s why i’m so friendly, unfortunately you weren’t raised in this way, but it’s okay, the most important is that i know what’s right and i love no matter what, now coming to the second part of your reply, our government is very bad, we as ordinary people don’t like our government, they’re corrupted and they’re the main reason behind the destruction of our country, but keep in mind that our government is bad with everyone, literally everyone, they don’t care whether you’re an Arab, Kurd, Yazidi, Assyrian, they just don’t care, the most important thing for them is stealing, and let me tell you also that the Arab population in Iraq suffered the most, and they took almost 80% of the pain and destruction during centuries, so saying it prioritize Arabs is nonsense, i mean even our president must be Kurd according to the constitution, so??? Are you still convinced with the nonsense you said?? And what’s irony is that the regional government of Northern Iraq (aka Kurdistan) is using very racist and sectarian behaviors toward the Arab and other minorities like Turkmen, like forcing them to vote in the ridiculous referendum, must to obtain a residence permit in their own country, an entry visa in their own land!!! Can you believe that?? That’s disgusting! I mean even Catalonia and Basque regions in Spain don’t even dare to do such things, because they will get in reward what’s really painful, but unfortunately our government is too weak to react to such nonsense and disgusting acts, so in the end my brother please don’t throw others’ houses with stones and your own house is made of glass, may God end this pathetic conflict and unites us under the name of Great Iraq ❤️❤️🇮🇶🇮🇶🇮🇶🙏🏻🙏🏻
Abdulrahman Abdullah that’s almost the truth(you didn’t talk about many important things)
First of all when you talked about suffering,no arabs suffered unless they were against the government during sadam’s and the regimes before.
Meanwhile when kurds didn’t even do anything, neither support neither be against, they suffered as much as the arabs and more just for being kurdish.
And that you talk about how your government doesn’t prioritize arabs then explain what’s happening in karkuk right now,all those kurds suffering and being killed and being stolen just for being kurds and giving them to other arabs
And if not that what about the arabization that still exists today?the kurdish region of iraq is twice the size of the kurdistan regional government and it’s all gone..that half barely have any kurds left in it and the kurdish culture of those places faded away to the point it’s just like any other arabic part of iraq.
And also they never forced them to vote,my dad didn’t vote in the referendum for example.
You say they’re racist but in many like MANY places of kurdistan the arabs say that they’re more welcomed by the kurdish government than the one of iraq.
And what’s the point of being a president while not being able to do absolutely anything?
It’s just a way to fool arabs to make them think they’re equal with the kurds, and also to fool kurds to make them think they have central power.
And about the visa part, you have to remember you will only be charged if you stayed longer than 30 days in the KRG,and hello?do you want that part of kurdistan arabized too?maybe yes.
We kurds the only thing we wanted throughout history was to have our own independence and live in peace and that’s not too much to ask is it?
But nooo the west and the east and the people of middle east can’t agree to such circumstances because of the oil of baba gurgur that should belong to them because you know, it’s oil it should not belong to kurds psh what a joke.
And one last thing, you do seem like a cool guy but that’s not the majority of arabs, for example go check out some of the comment replies that are arguments between kurds and arabs and that’s what the majority of arabs are like(not even mentioning some arabs claiming it to be just iraq and not kurdistan)
that's the true picture of the Kurdish people .. and how kind and friendly people they are
all the love for you guys ❤
yaah the north is safe but the south r ummm what i should i say Broken

Thank you so much for making this sweet and wonderful video, my family are from Iraq & Kurdistan :-) It's nice to get another view of it away from all the war and destruction that we usually see in the media. P.s. the beads are known as Tasbih (prayer beads) usually made up of 99 beads for the 99 names of Allah. We use them in the recital of Allah's names which each hold a specific sound healing frequency when recited. Each bead is 1 count, some chant a different number for each of Allah's names depending on what they want to heal. This is also known as Dhikr in Sufism (the mystical spiritual religion of Islam) :-)

There are at least a million Ezdis and Christians (mostly Assyrian) in South Kurdistan.
Flora Isam I know there are other religions living within the country and I understand where you’re coming from, but come on.... what’s the first thing that pops into people’s head when they hear Iraq? “Muslims, Terrorists,ISIS, and etc.”
Actually the islam is a problem in kurdistan 🤦♂️
kurdistan is not a muslim country.

Sorry I missed this important, fascinating and educational video! People are much the same throughout the world, they want to be left alone and let their work be rewarded. This is a GREAT video!
This just goes to show you shouldn't always listen to the government or news media! Such lovely people ❤️
Kurdish Woman 'shot dead at wedding for refusing arranged marriage to her cousin'
"A man claiming to be the young woman's father has posted photos on Facebook which show her body covered in blood, surrounded by horrified wedding guests".
(From) The Independent (newspaper), (authored by) Siobhan Fenton @SiobhanFenton
Wednesday 16 March 2016
STORY READS:
A Kurdish woman has been shot dead in Germany after refusing an arranged marriage with her cousin, it has been reported.
Images have been posted on Facebook by a man claiming to be the girl’s father and depicting her lying on the ground in a pool of blood, surrounded by distraught wedding guests. In an accompanying message he writes that his 21-year-old daughter was an aspiring engineer who had refused attempts by members of her extended family to agree to a marriage with her cousin.
He writes that: “This murderer would not accept that! They decided to take revenge, to continue the tradition. At 10 AM on 13 March, she was killed with 3 shots to the head by her own cousin.”
German media outlet, Bild, reports that German police have confirmed that a young woman was shot dead earlier this week and that they are investigating her death as a homicide. They have reportedly recovered the gun which was used as a murder weapon but the murder suspect is allegedly on the run.
Due to stigma and fear about speaking out, it is unknown precisely how many (Foreign Migrant) women are intimidated into arranged marriages every year. However, at least 3,500 (Foreign Migrant) women seek counselling and support services for the issue every year in Germany.

On my first visit to Iraq on a working assignment with Shell it was my observation as well. The local people are so friendly. It was hard to believe if you think of all the hardships they've been through.
Welcome to Iraq my friend. We have nothing but love for people from all around the world and want nothing but peace, love and prosperity. Regardless of where someone is from, we share this planet together and have same goals an ambitions.
Thats Kurdistan not iraq

Ok, I had to write another comment because the first one I have not watched the video yet. I'm literally in tears with this one. See these people being SO nice and giving things for free it's not only amazing but inspiring. Don't let the news blind you, guys. This video is proof of that.
Yeah thank you! People argue they don’t let the customers pay! even at restaurants I get bullied online for being Muslim and that I live in Kurdistan so I really appreciate this comment!

As an American war fighter that fought side by side with the Kurds /Peshmerga they were a people that we always believed in , that always fought for good , they jsut want to live in peace and love , to have a right to live and they were the groups we believed so strongly fight with and for!
Erbil has changed a lot now in many Arabic cities is more beautiful and pleasant and guests are friendly

I involuntarily smiled throughout this entire video. The Kurds are so amazing.
What a happy vlog! Your joy is so evident and overwhelming that it brings a smile to everyone who sees today's program! I can't think of anyone who is more deserving of receiving such an all encompassing warm welcome than the two of you. I guess that the Kurds, who have been through a nightmare, are so eager to show their traditional friendliness to everyone who visits their homeland. Thanks Kara and Nate for taking the chance to visit this part of the world which has suffered so much. By doing so, you have given these incredible people an opportunity to show all of us how truly kind humans can be even in difficult situations.
Very well said!

Aaroncolorado, thank you for saying it! this is exactly how I felt watching this. Greetings from Denver :)
Thank you for your feedback. We are constantly looked at as a “dangerous country”. I believe ISIS had ruined IRAQ - the fall of Saddam Hussien has done quite a lot of damage too. Anyone that came after Saddam Hussien was a thief/corrupted leaders

Couple of things i learned from this video: 1st, don't believe the media. 2nd, hospitality there is more than courtesy, it's tradition. Especially if you're a visitor. 3rd, I WANT TO VISIT IRAQ. Much love from the USA.
Dude Iraq is a shithole, Media doesn't report it for no reason, this is not Iraq, this is Kurdistan, it's an autonomous region north of Iraq, you could say it's an country since they're pretty much independent on everything except trading, Iraq itself tho, from Kurdistan borders to Basrah is a shithole.
