Kamakura is Sean Collins…son of Wade Collins…a crimson guard who fought in Nam with Snake Eyes and Stalker. This is his Devils Due GI Joe Comics code name. He was trained by Snake Eyes. In the IDW continuation of the OG comic he is now Snake Eyes…until issue 300
@@modeisin7 they can look him up online, there is a plethora of knowledge to be obtained there. Plus even if you don’t know who he is this is just a very good action figure in the end.
This figure plus Tiger Force Outback are my favorite figures dropped in the line so far, amazing head sculpts, great accessories, great articulation…how could you not love these figures. Gotta love Hasbro for dropping figures from all periods of the line, you never know who will get announced next, definitely wouldn’t have expected Big Ben. Wish they would drop the Oktober Guard. Only downplay to this figure is the artwork, you are right in saying they should stick to one artist but not the one who created this art. They should go back to file cards, not sure why they refuse to give us what we really want like more hands, file cards and stands for the figures!
The deluxe price is BS but growing up with this era of GI Joe I was floored when he got announced. Never expected to get this childhood favorite in Classified, one of my most played with Joe figures.
Just realiesd that you can technically give those guns to the 02 snake eyes - in particular the handgun to replace the one with the hole that so many despised
Kamakura is an awesome figure. I got mine yesterday and I've been having a lot of fun with him. However, I think the consensus is that this is NOT a deluxe figure. Part of Emily's BS justification was that it is an Amazon exclusive, as if they've never released an exclusive that wasn't a deluxe. It just seems like an excuse to charge a little more, wherever they can.
I pre-ordered this figure because I am a sucker for all things "ninja." With that said, like you, this character doesn't resonate with me. He was well after my time of Joe collecting. Now...as to whether this is "deluxe," not just "no," but, *"HELL NO!!!"* This is an egregious money grab. It seems like the idea here was, "if we throw in a bunch of accessories, it's automatically a 'deluxe' figure." That's fine...if the accessories are good and or new. IN this case, the "ninja" weapons are all re-issues from the Snake Eyes Origins figures. You know, those figures everyone hated and didn't buy? Well Hasbro is like, "You're getting these rejected weapons, sucker!!" Then, for diarrhea and screams, they opted to include the guns and knife from Snake Eyes & Timber Wolf Ver 1. Without the silencer too. Just, bad form Hasbro. So not ONE new weapon; not even the weapons he originally came with. Even the thing that acts as a backpack, is from Snake Eyes Origins Storm Shadow. Obviously, the hood and scarf are repaints from the standard release Retro Storm Shadow. The torso, pelvis and feet are repaints from that same Storm Shadow. Leaving only the heads, arms and legs as new sculpt. IN the end, 85% reuse...doesn't sound very premium. Premium, would be the Doctor Mindbeder set or Serpentor set, or the Three Viper Pack or even Snake Eyes and & Timber Ver 1. IN all those instances, you get NEW accessories and in the case of Doctor Mind Bender, a nearly completely new sculpt from head to toe. Kamakura...is Hasbro trying to rehash as many molds as possible and call it a new figure. Along with cutting out all plastic in the packaging, they've saved quite a bit of money on the production costs. A savings they did NOT pass down to us, but instead did the reverse and increased the cost. This is Hasbro kicking us because they didn't meet their financial goals. The good news though, he's pin-less. So, there's that. Now, that isn't to say that there aren't fans of Kamakura. According to other information I read or watched, he has a deep and complicated backstory that gives him more intrigue. He was never released as a direct Hasbro GIJOE figure. He was released under a different brand that licensed out the GIJOE brand from Hasbro. He was in the comics that were produced by IDW. So really Kamakura is a direct departure for Hasbro to release. In that regard, he's something of a miracle; an anomaly. In fact, I believe that is what they were going for on the box cover. Notice he is without the mask. That is how is portrayed in the comics. In his three versions as a figure, he was never without a mask. So the cover is portraying him in "comic" form.
The packaging doesn't seem strange, it feels cheap. They went to less plastic to maximize profits, not save the environment. Figure is good, paint details on guns I guess make it deluxe? Why do you not like the drop down hips? You don't have to drop them down unless you want a little more movement out of the legs. You can also offset the hips for some good stances. Is there better hips? Ligit question, but I'm sure you won't read. Peace
Not a fan as they get hung up and the plastic gets stress marks I’ve noticed over time. Hasbro is getting ahead of the environmental laws. You will see a lot less plastic across the board
I got my Kamakura a couple days ago. He's cool but I see no justification as to how he could be considered a "deluxe" figure. No extra hands, re-used weapons, lack of sheaths and holster etc. If they consider this deluxe, they could try to call any figure deluxe and at the price point, that would be ridiculous
Wasn't really a deluxe figure but just an Amazon only Exclusive !!! Reason for it being $33.99 (too high if you ask my opinion ) !!! But I still had ordered him, it arrived today !!!
Another one I'll wait for a discount on. Kamakura was created during the Devil's Due era of GI Joe so to me he is not a necessary figure for my collection.
I do dislike how Hasbro has handled the “deluxe” issue. Their responses have been just odd and dismissive. I’m passing on this one I was never a huge fan of the character anyway so not a huge loss to me.
Kamakura has the Boba Fett problem--because he's connected to Snake-Eyes, they figure the hardcore fans will HAVE to have him, so charge more for the completionists/diehard Snake-Eyes fans. Add that to the production run, voila, more money for this fig. Considering the recent report about plastic recycling (Google for it if you want), basically there is very little in the way of actual, in reality, plastic recycling. Therefore, it really DOES seem like a good idea to use it less/reserve it for things where nothing else is practical/works for the purpose.
The classified Toyline is junk.. they're all over the place with characters and releases.. tiger force, python patrol, kamkura, bigben.. the core of the 1982-1986 characters haven't even been realized, and they handing out junk. How many dreadnoks have been made to date?.. green shirts?(breaker, flash, grunt, steeler), Recondo, Dusty, Footloose???.. I'm good.. I'll just stick with 3.75 scale, already have them all vintage and have my favorites from the 25th-current retro line. This is really just a wasted scale for a Toyline centered around military vehicles and playsets. 👍
Speaking of the “ART” on the box Kyle… Did you see covergirl’s box?… Oh my god what a train wreck… Talk about silly and ridiculous… What did you think… I thought the person was high on peyote when they drew it…or you could say it looks like a Salvador Dali painting 🤣😂
I’m in the minority in the fact I like the plastic free packaging, makes throwing them away much easier as in I can toss almost all Hasbro boxes in the recycle instead of taking up space in the trash cans. And I continue to not get swaps or QC issues and that’s between multiple figures and lines. And as far as design I like it the box as a whole looks more fun then the old where it’s just a dynamic picture, same with like Power Rangers that box is the most boring nothing on the back except a picture of the figure which is boring but I do think figures NEED to come with a blurb of some sort on every line and if not on the box then do like Mcfarlane with a collectible card or something

This should have been the blurb on the box or go Mcfarlane style and include a card especially if it’s a file card.
@@modeisin7 Now why would Hasbro want to do that. Too much money and labor to make 5 different cards for each language. LOL.

I looked in the mirror, and much to my dismay, saw that I had Lust in my eyes 👀

I'm wondering whether the price is for the unique parts and the 2 and half weapons packs (which feels more like 2)
Kids don't invest 33 bucks in one figure.
I don’t think kids invest any money in figures. Parents do though for them.
A $33.00 fig is not for kids!
