Bro I'm trying to deny my depretion. Give me sign that I'm not depressed. I'm a 14 year old boy, and i don't want to be that 14 y old that fakes depression for attention.
@@havardl4495 if you are afraid of faking an illness for attention, you're most likely not! I got my first depression when I was 14, I had no idea what was happening to me and it was completely overwhelming and I felt completely alone in it. Please know that it's okay to feel this way, it is not your fault and you are not alone in this! Please talk about it with someone you trust, you don't have to suffer alone. There is hope, you are young and times will change and you can feel better! Take your time, don't beat yourself up for feeling a certain way.
Ha ha ha! Yeah. My favourite contribution to The Red Green Show was The Man's Prayer: "I'm a man. And I can change. If I have to. I guess." Probably the mantra for the whole series!
Nice one Rick. It snuck up on me so insidiously that it seemed life had always been so bleak. When I did get help I was amazed that it worked! Who'd have thought? 🤣 It's never too late, and it's definitely never too soon to get help folks. Listen to Rick!
Thanks! Glad you liked it. Yeah, it's kind of insidious the way you sink into it. And no one other people recognize it sooner than we do, because they have perspective. They remember when every conversation didn't turn into complaining, bemoaning, bitter, or just cynical dismissal. Woe is me.
Very good examples! I'm glad you're feeling better! It is really hard to pull yourself up again but you did it! For everyone who may be struggeling with some symptoms: I would recomend to call a therapist asap because it takes so f***ing long to get an actual apointment. I had to wait 6 month before I could start therapy and I was already a wreck when I finally realized I can't get out of this hell without help and searched for a therapist.
You might also look into a coach. I've used both and a coach can be as powerful as a therapist is you're not dealing with something like deep childhood trauma or unresolved issues. If it's about work, friends, socializing, money, or getting stuff done, a coach may be the answer. A good coach doesn't necessarily have answers, they help you find the answer that is right for you. Many work by phone, Skype, or zoom so you don't have to find someone local.
Another great video from Rick, his typical, tension-easing humour when dealing with a very serious, unfunny topic and his use of a relatable, everyday analogy helps break down the overwhelm and weight of negative feeling that depression equips you with. I've had a few pretty profound spells of depression in the past, but now I've learnt - like many of us here having followed Rick's previous TotallyADD work - that it was in fact a comorbidity of ADHD. I no longer experience depression. Knowing why you think and feel the way you do you makes all the difference... Love and best wishes to everyone in this ever-expanding community. You are amazing. Believe that.
I'm so sorry to ask this on another video, but what happened to your '10 signs' ADHD video? It really really helped me and I wanted to watch it again and I can't find it anywhere which is a little distressing. You had one, I think? Did it get deleted or is it on your Patreon? I hope I'm not bothering you with this question! Thank you very much for all your fun educational videos!!
I have dealt w depression my entire life. I lost my job and didn't get a new one immediately bc Covid. And I am fortunate enough to be able to afford the break in work (for the first time ever in my life. I've been broke most of my adult life.) Since I was home and alone and it was socially ok because of quarantine, I had time to breathe. (And, gotta say, TikTok is a treasure trove for your mental health, I've learned so, so much about myself and other people in the world.) Back to my point: I had the time to get to know myself and learned I have a.d.d. and autism. It was like a light switch. The pieces fell into place. I've been doing a lot of work on myself and it is certainly paying off. This video is a great reminder that I am NOT depressed right now. I can even say I'm happy. I have joy and gratitude and communicate openly with those I love. Being able to isolate has literally been a gift for me. And now I understand why. And I don't have to feel bad about wanting to be alone because I can explain to others what is going on in my mind. The freedom from depression is the best gift I've ever gotten.
Since i was diagnosed with depression and anxiety 8 years ago, my sleeping pattern is horrendous. Id rather be awake at night than in the day. I can easily sleep 15+ hours straight. I dont feel i have anything to get up for so just keep turning my alarms off and go back to sleep. I often get the "everyone would be better off without me" feeling and thoughts. I just dont enjoy life the same way anymore.
You're not alone. I hope you're getting help. I know a good therapist, journalling, exercise, and seeing friends (which was the last thing I wanted to do) made such a difference. And yes, medication gave me the jumpstart to do the things like exercising and socializing.
I used to be depressed. nothing to look forward to, too shy to make friends as I had been picked on and criticized most of my life. I forced myself into situations where I knew nobody and would likely not have long term connections with, and I slowly started getting over my shyness and started coming out of my shell. It was a long journey, but the depression slowly dissapeared and I developed hope for a bright future. Be strong, and find your motivation. You don't need love, you ARE love.
Thanks for the video! Currently I am doing good! Anxiety about the thesis I am writing, but that is to be expected. Just keeping blinders on and going one day at a time. Also getting outside when it is not pouring down rain and walking. I can still feel the endorphins from my walk today

Great video! I would love to hear more on the connection of adhd and ASD. How they overlap and how they don’t. How to distinguish the typical co-morbidity traits. 🤔 I isolate for other reasons but I can always tell when I’m depressed I don’t even do the things I do at home to stay busy. I shut down and nothing interests me, as apposed to cleaning, reading my books, waiting for a show like you said, researching things.
I guess im depressed because i could only half focus on this video and got aggravated at the constant queens gambit remarks. Im pretty sure ive had high functioning depression for years.
Pretty sure depressed is a personality trait for myself . But … reaching out .. getting an appointment.. going through the symptoms.. having been on antidepressants.. suggesting or asking about trying something again .. having any hope at all in some subtle change in weeks or months to come.. only to realize a year later being right at the same place… and only Thing to do is look for help.. decide to come off the med in hopes that maybe that helps … just don’t see any real hope in medication from here .
Just want to say you're still doing a great job even if on some days it's a struggle to do anything or see the hope. Recognizing when you need to reach out is an amazing step. On the days when it feels too hard to do anything, just do the least you can do. Snack a little, sip some water, walk around your home, change your clothes. Even all the small things help build to stronger days. It is sometimes a lifelong battle but you're not alone in the everyday struggle 💕
Yeah. I suspect the book club might still work on a zoom call, but a BBQ not so much. That said, we do webinars with our Patrons at least twice a month and after the guest speaker has given their presentation (tomorrow we're doing Chair Yoga with Jackie Gaulton) and said goodbye, I switch off the record button and everyone unmutes themselves to socialize and catch up. Some times folks are still chatting an hour later. About anything and everything. Great recipes, interesting products or strategies or courses, where to find stuff... I always thought I was an introvert, but man, I am bursting to talk.
Thought so, my doctors were SOOOO quick to say I was suffering from depression, but heck, whenever I have a depressive episode, it absolutely does not last. There's soooo many things I love, and even though, yes, I don't play chess that often, the few times I do play it, I enjoy it. Even when I'm losing (which yes, bugs the pros, but I don't care, having fun is the most important thing!)! I definitely have ADHD and Autism though, because mah brain's like scrambled eggs XD Still to get the ADHD diagnosis, but fairly sure it's there.
Already dx with major depressive disorder. My meds kinda bump it to the background, like a voice in my head telling me I'm a waste, not good enough, etc, but with my meds I can be like, yeah, yeah, I know, but I'm too busy to pay attention to you. Most of these for me are autism/ADHD/PTSD/social anxiety symptoms and as long as I'm actively working on them, the depression voices stay in the background. So a lot of times people see me doing activities or trying to be social and think my depression is gone. Oh, it's still there waiting for the slightest crack, or one missed dose of meds.
Hey you changed your channel name. Great video. I used to think about my death a lot, still do. Haha. But at least now I'm putting a future in between. Have a great day bro. Love your videos.

❤ oh my heart, Rick just makes you smile 😊 bouncing off his energy like a pinball table 😂 also hooray for a sequel to Napoleon Dynamite ❤ thank you so much for sharing
Well, now I am pretty sure I actually have depressions. The problem is, our doctors do not see mental illness as illness, so going to clinic is really not an option here and seeking a professional is also not very helpful. I can deal with myself now, I can deal with thoughts that the world would be better without me or to get away from thoughts about selfharm etc., it's not easy, I had to find my own way because no one helped me ever. I was told that I am just emotional, drama queen or weird and get over it. I went to professionals a few times in my past, the last one told me that obviously I only make out problems to get attention, I do not trust "professional" psychologists ever since.
Hm. According to this list I'm not depressed. My psychiatrist (and myself) would disagree. Of course that doesn't mean this can't be a useful tool, but if you don't recognize many items from this list but still feel like something is wrong, please please please get help
Yes, these are not proof. They are signs. And if I've learned anything since making ADD & Loving It?! in 2009 it's that nothing in mental health is clear cut and simple. It's complex, everything overlaps, few symptoms are unique to any disorder, and diagnosing is so much harder than diagnosing a broken bone, allergy, or appendicitis.
@@rickgreen4131 I understand that nothing is 100%, but just wanted to mention it for if someone doesn't recognize much and thinks 'guess it's not that bad then'
I'm watching like 4 shows on these streaming services. now I'm really interested in the queen's gambit. As for depression, I've struggled with it my whole life and I've never sought help. I don't know how to, without making it seem like a big deal... I don't think I want medication, I do want therapy but it's probably expensive or some other inconvenient reason. I'm still in my "just for now" job and it's been 6 years. I don't think I'll ever get my life together, It might be too late for me.

Ugh. The video ad I had to kill was about prayer, and there was also a Jesusy image-based ad. Why? I'm an atheist. I guarantee that RUclips's algorithm didn't gather this stuff from my brosing habits!
One time I randomly received in the mail this poster/prayer rug thing that was a really freaky image of Jesus. It was kind of like those hidden pictures, in which Jesus' eyes could appear open or closed. Really weird and random. I think we snuck it into in my housemate's room as a prank.
Too depressed to watch this video. ;) What would you say to middle age male who has lost almost all interest in doing anything but watch TV and sleep? I am overwhelmed by everything and just retreat to avoiding doing anything but the most barebones of tasks. Some people just stop eating when they get depressed, as food becomes as bland as life. That used to be me during my lowest days
well this video has confirmed that I am in fact very depressed. love your content xo
Whew, that's one less thing to worry about.
Napoleon Dynamite 2! That's a sequel I didn't know I was waiting for. Thanks, I guess?
7:52 not me literally munching on random foods for the past 3 hours o_o
Ha ha. Milf Magnet has his poles reversed. (I have no idea what that means but didn't it sound clever?)
I didnt like the feeling of feeling sorry for myself I’m glad it went away. Just the restlessness in anxiety I can’t stand I can’t stay talking with anyone if not I start moving get dizzy
Well, I have no interest in watching this show, but I know I'm not depressed from the list. Good video.
Good to know!
Great video! I would love to hear more on the connection of adhd and ASD. How they overlap and how they don’t. How to distinguish the typical co-morbidity traits. 🤔
I isolate for other reasons but I can always tell when I’m depressed I don’t even do the things I do at home to stay busy. I shut down and nothing interests me, as apposed to cleaning, reading my books, waiting for a show like you said, researching things.
Yeah. When the stuff I love makes me feel... m'eh... I know something is not right.
I guess im depressed because i could only half focus on this video and got aggravated at the constant queens gambit remarks. Im pretty sure ive had high functioning depression for years.
It’s a tough one! Thank you 🙏🏻
The Queen’s Gambit motif kept my laughing for this tough subject. I was able to laugh while actually learning about my mental health : )
A very good video !
i ticked a lot of boxes, but i now have more insight : ) and i am working on it
Pretty sure depressed is a personality trait for myself .
As a minor too I know how tiring it will be to talk to my parents and explaining everything and…
Just the thought of it makes me tired
Maybe you didn't have the proper medication for you. Most anti depressants do nothing for me
Visibly that's something else
Just want to say you're still doing a great job even if on some days it's a struggle to do anything or see the hope. Recognizing when you need to reach out is an amazing step. On the days when it feels too hard to do anything, just do the least you can do. Snack a little, sip some water, walk around your home, change your clothes. Even all the small things help build to stronger days. It is sometimes a lifelong battle but you're not alone in the everyday struggle 💕
Number one: when youre at your book club, a barbecue or dinner with friends and -
Ok nevermind.
I am dealing with depression and anxiety. #5 really hit home with me. I don’t go out unless going to the food store or drugstore. Don’t visit folks.
Excellent Rick ❤
Already dx with major depressive disorder. My meds kinda bump it to the background, like a voice in my head telling me I'm a waste, not good enough, etc, but with my meds I can be like, yeah, yeah, I know, but I'm too busy to pay attention to you. Most of these for me are autism/ADHD/PTSD/social anxiety symptoms and as long as I'm actively working on them, the depression voices stay in the background. So a lot of times people see me doing activities or trying to be social and think my depression is gone. Oh, it's still there waiting for the slightest crack, or one missed dose of meds.
great job Rick 👌 for real bud
Hey you changed your channel name. Great video. I used to think about my death a lot, still do. Haha. But at least now I'm putting a future in between. Have a great day bro. Love your videos.
I have to wear hats more often being bald. 😂
Hey Rick!
I'm trying to find this video that you appeared in where you were explaining how dopamine works. You used examples of a bus that wants to cross a river, but it needs a ferry(dopamine) to do that. Any idea where i can find it?
I'm so sorry Katja, but that video is no longer available.
Thank you.
I'm up at 3am watching this video. But this is an exception, I swear.
❤ oh my heart, Rick just makes you smile 😊 bouncing off his energy like a pinball table 😂 also hooray for a sequel to Napoleon Dynamite ❤ thank you so much for sharing
I like your content man
What about the Marble expensive wizard chess set? It’s Harry Potter!!!!!!!
When I’m depressed I watch reruns of tv shows named after primary colors to snap me out of it!
Please people, don't think of checking out, my little brother just did 😢
@@rickgreen4131 I understand that nothing is 100%, but just wanted to mention it for if someone doesn't recognize much and thinks 'guess it's not that bad then'
TY 💙
Yes, We're all in this together! I grew up watching the Red Green Show on PBS and appreciate your YT videos!
It was a lot harder to follow for me than the not adhd video... but, it might have been intentionally cause it wasnt suppose to be for adhders?
I'm watching like 4 shows on these streaming services. now I'm really interested in the queen's gambit.
As for depression, I've struggled with it my whole life and I've never sought help. I don't know how to, without making it seem like a big deal... I don't think I want medication, I do want therapy but it's probably expensive or some other inconvenient reason. I'm still in my "just for now" job and it's been 6 years. I don't think I'll ever get my life together, It might be too late for me.
Nahhh that's just your Depression Brain talking 🤔 Listen to Rick and reach out to someone to give you a hand finding depression resources, a quick google for things in your area will be a great start 🤗 You can do it ❤️
I think i might have The Queen's Gambit
Interesting! Say more about that?
I've been looking for Sharknado 5. I can't find it. Is he just kidding?
yep. i was depressed. Thanks gluten and ADHD :(
Did you only shave 1/2 your stash?
Half of those symptoms sound like ADHD &/or autism. How do you tell the difference ?
the suicidal part gives it away usually
You have placed your guitar in a wrong position. It will bend it's neck.
yes, come over to germany for lunch one year later🤣
I think we snuck it into in my housemate's room as a prank.
where did you get your nipper dog?!
Too depressed to watch this video. ;) What would you say to middle age male who has lost almost all interest in doing anything but watch TV and sleep? I am overwhelmed by everything and just retreat to avoiding doing anything but the most barebones of tasks. (like mim required to keep my job, eat, sometimes buy things to feel better or to give me motivation to get a project done, that never ends up getting done) How about that? What do we call it when you HIT THE wall and have no mojo to do a damn thing? Is that depression? (just kidding, I'm watching the video by the way)
I have unsubscribed because the fact you deleted all your helpful videos isn't fair. I really needed them.
@@normietwiceremoved Have you considered that they may not have had a choice in ownership of the videos? Not everyone is in it for the money.
@@normietwiceremoved YES!
Rick will be bringing the videos back in time, they just aren't available at the moment during the transition of TotallyADD being taken over.
That's my understanding anyway...
Best wishes all.
hm, guess I am
Is Steve Martin a relative? Lol
Real basketball is played with pucks.
Let me say I so appreciate your videos. That being said, you're promoting a series of shows in which a girl abuses stimulants to get ahead as a chess player. Really?! Kindness and love to you. Perhaps dig deeper.
Why the queen's gambit? I don't care about it and hearing about it is irritating me!!!
I am clinically depressed 😔
You’re cute lol. 😊
