Wow I like my car a lot more than I thought I would after reading all the horror stories about the DSG in the 2 litre AWD model. Drove it home from the country dealership on adaptive cruise the entire way, from speed limits ranging between 40 and 110 and it even came to a perfect stop in the tunnel then accelerated again. I have had no jerks with the DSG so far after just going for a night drive around town. The LED headlights (excite awd trim) are quite decent, the car has good steering, although it's perfectly clear, that unlike my Ateca, this is made for touring, not handling around corners. But the car does point intuitively within its limits and this is the car I will be taking with me on interstate drives. So comfy. Everything is intuitive, the ambient lighting is beautiful and the LED lights inside are plentiful. After watching this video I didn't need to do anything else or open the manual even once to figure out features. The only thing you CAN'T do on the HS is change tyre pressure monitoring to psi, the units setting in the display only allows you to change to miles per gallon or miles instead of KM for the display, but there's no setting for tyre pressures, so you need to learn BAR figures, which is fine. The dealership set mine at 2.6 bar or 38 psi which I think is a tad hi and I will be reducing it to 36. The 2 litre has PLENTY of power. Yes there's that initial DSG take off lag but even the Ateca has that and that is a 4.9 second 0-100 car, and the only way to avoid it is launch control which you really don't want to do everyday anyway as that will eventually eff up the car. Manual mode and super sport activated seem to be a way to mitigate lag as the transmission is not hunting what gear to be in. When there is a compatible throttle controller out for the HS I will do that and that will solve take off lag issue. In a year or so I'll probably get it tuned as well if there is ever a chip available for it - and there should be, as it's a nice engine and has a wet clutch trans that I am sure could handle a bit more torque. For the 37.5K I paid, 2 K under retail for metallic excite AWD (got a great deal, brand spanking new car), I can't think of a better family SUV for the money. Impressed! Good one MG!
There is a way to access the engineers menu to change the bar to psi settings, depending on the age of the vehicle and the software that it’s running. What year is yours?
@@RefinerOfTheQuarter 2022. I saw the engineer's menu on a vid yesterday and I didn't see anything about PSI but it's no biggie.. I can look for myself, you touch the 4 corners yes? Mine is Feb 22 build 22 model year. You can't get an AWD 23 anywhere, and I have been told by multiple dealers the excite X is being dropped as none of them were able to input an order for a new one into the computer, it just rejects it. A shame if so as even the base model with 115kw can easily spin the front wheels in the wet and that can be scary for new drivers.. My sister wanted an AWD for her 18yo daughter and her car is what got me interested in it, now we have located a 3rd one for her other daughter LOL, a demo with 3000Km/2022/33K! But from Brissie and she has to pay stamp duty and reg when arrive, heck they are even covering transport, so more like 35K but that's total price and for a low km demo with 6 years of warranty remaining, that's a GREAT deal imo, and oh it's metallic as well, black. So, 3 in the family LOL!
Great Jerry! I’ve had my ZST for a couple of years but wasn’t too sure about traffic jam assist. I do have one issue which I think is unique to my car : I can’t turn off the lane depart alert. Even when I mute it continues to bong as it turns on and off in stop start traffic. Makes me love the car just a little bit less. My husbands HS doesn’t do this so I am pretty sure mine is just being a duck.
Really appreciate your videos, your videos are full of useful information, I have a question regarding MG HS, one of the back door of my MG was not fully closed, then i press the Lock button on MG remote to lock the car and Car get locked but still one of the door was still opened. This is not a good because Car must get not locked when any of the doors is still opened or Car must give any Alarm. Needs your guidance or some sort of settings on the Car. Thanks in advance
Thank you for this video, it has answered a few questions on how to use the ACC on long distance travels. However is it advisable to NOT use the ACC in local city traffic where you are constantly stopping at traffic lights, roundabouts, stop signs and give way signs??? Should it be off??? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I recently purchased MG HS in country Oman, but it doesn't have features of Pilot mode or traffic jam assistance. Please let me know how active this menu
Thanks Jerry. Another of your great tutorials. It took me a while to figure the traffic jam assist myself; this video demonstrates it very well. May I add/ask, I've always wondered if/how when motor-cycles might affect the system? You had 3 or 4 motor-cycles zooming past you, not in your lane and I noticed nothing happened. Curious to know if anyone has had a motor-cycle actually pull into your lane and does MG Pilot react the same way? Follow the same way? Also, great that you were driving in the rain, because it gives me the confidence to know that rain doesn't affect the system "that much" either.
Hi Thomas, thanks for the comment. Yes the system will recognize motor bike or even push bike. It will recognize it only if the bike is driving in your lane. It works the same as a standard vehicle.
I rented an MG HS recently and the driver aids were terrible - the major hassle being the stalk is hidden behind the steering wheel and totally unintuative to use - terrible.
Thanks for the video Jerry. The thing I don’t like about putting the car in pilot is, you have no idea what speed your travelling at, it only shows you the set speed. For example, if I decide to overtake a slower car while on pilot, I use the accelerator pedal, however, you cannot see your speed! I mean, if your on the freeway or highway, with 100k speed limit, when you accelerate you can be doing 105 or 115 & you can’t tell your speed, you can run into problems with the law if they happen to be there at the time, that’s a disadvantage with pilot.
@@JerryPanandCars yes mate, MG HS 2021, not analog, digital speedo, same as the one in this video. This video shows the same thing Jerry, you cannot see your speed! Only the set speed! The car has some really cool features, however, it also has some silly ones too😂🤷🏻♂️
@@JerryPanandCars We’ve just had the car serviced & they upgraded the software, everything is changed now for the better! 😃 When I engage pilot the display doesn’t change, that is, the Speedo shows current speed😊 I think there are a few subtle differences from country to country. I’m in Australia.
Thank you. The best video about the MG Pilot I found at the internet 😊 Thank you

Mate, your videos are awesome, I have an older model, so not all features apply, but I'm enjoying the ones that do. Thanks heaps!
Yeah they are pretty much the best HS videos around!
Thanks Jerry. Just bought an HS PHEV and wanting to trust Cruise Control! Now I will try Pilot too. BTW : well behaved traffic on your roads !

All the ZST has audio alerts on no matter what you do. You just need to switch the function completely off if you don't like it.
Thank you Jerry
I am finding on the ZST the excelerator pedal and brake pedal to far to the Left.
Thanks for the video. Could we just switch on the traffic jam assist without turning on the ACC?
Nope
Hi Jerry love your videos, Can you tell me is it possible to turn off the automatic braking on bends when in ACC?
Useful thanks
Thanks for your support!
It’s a shame the indicator stalk is on the left hand side
Jerry please make a video on how to set km on cruise control zst essence
It is the same as this video shows.
Hi Jerry thanks for the great videos. What happens if I change lanes while using ACC on MG ZST?
It will just refocus on the lane you are driving.
Very informative an useful, thank you. *****
Thank you!
On my ZS the lka in traffic jams was dangerous so I would use acc but not lka, weirdly the lka was better in a motorway , not great but much better.
And it would be good to have some information on how to get he best economy possible.
This is hard to explain unfortunately. Gentle drive or highway driving will normally get good economy.
Can we use only the Traffic Jam mode without activating the Cruise Control?
Not on the MG cars

How about the music capabilities? Do I need to use apple car play or a usb thumb drive with mp3s (or either/both)
You can use either whichever you prefer.

Never heard of not using ACC in slow traffic thing. The manufacturer created this feature called traffic jam assist to help you in slow traffic.
You need to understand the difference between ACC and Traffic Jam Assist. The latter is EXACTLY there for slow moving, non-motorway traffic.
I recently purchased MG HS in country Oman, but it doesn't have features of Pilot mode or traffic jam assistance. Please let me know how active this menu

What’s the super sport button do? Which versions have this?

do you have any issues with Apple Carplay / Android Auto?
some people do.
What’s the red button on wheel mate?
Super sport mode for the MG HS.
@@JerryPanandCars ah 👌 thanks man
Im guessing Traffic jam assist doesn’t work with manual transmission?
Probably not. We don’t sell manual MG in NZ so I won’t know either. I know Honda’s adaptive cruise actually works with manual transmission

I didn't think you should use cruise control in wet conditions? Can you clarify, please?
Why not?
You can drive in wet condition then you can surely use cruise control in wet condition

Super sport button for MG HS petrol
Terrible gearbox for slow traffic, very jumpy and the stop/start feature is awful.
