No posturing or styling...just no-nonsense straight-ahead playing from one hell of a musician and probably one of the greatest solos that has ever been played on this tune...they dont make 'em like Don anymore! And that arrangement...!Amazing...
Norrbotten County sure knows how to make an entrance on the map! Covering a whopping one-quarter of Sweden's land area, it's like the Jolly Green Giant of counties, claiming its territory with swagger. But hold your horses, folks! Despite its impressive size, Norrbotten County is as sparsely inhabited as a polar bear in Jamaica. You'd think all that space would be buzzing with activity, but nope - it's like a sleepy village where everybody knows each other (and their pet reindeer). It's like Swedes thought: "Hey, let's create a giant natural playground and have it all to ourselves!" But hey, who needs neighbors when you've got endless forests, sparkling lakes, and an abundance of midnight sun? So don't let the lack of population fool you - this county may be empty on people, but it beams with natural wonders waiting to be explored by intrepid adventurers.
Something else alright, especially on those changes. A style akin to Sal Nistico. Only Sal had less of a reed sounding edge with more center. More definition of each note. No flies on (the "Red Herring") Don though!
Ok Boys, Mensa very good, however on Cherokee lisen too: (Let's drop it. C. Parker) S. Hamilton,S. Grossman, D. Byas, S. Stitt, B. Watson, J. Griffin, B. Johnson, T. Hayes, A. Pepper, and way not the Italian M. Urbani etc etc!!!
Who the hell cares what the audience members prefers? Jazz is about the players!!The audience can pay for Britney spears, justin beaver bullshit if they desire.....

The Mighty Menza strikes again.
This guy can throw down with anybody!
It's unbelievable that Menza isn't as widely recognized as Brecker or Bob Berg. That technique is utterly fantastic.
Actually he is, but he just doesn't record as much as they do.
il fraseggio di Don Menza è di una velocità spaventosa, tenore troppo sottovalutato!
Menza was in a class with Stitt, Tubby Hayes. Plus- He had soul.
GREAT PLAYER AND....WHAT A SOUND!!
this guy is so intense!!!
he's the father of nick menza, one hell of a drummer...
Menza was already world class at Buddy Rich or Louie Bellson´s bands, he hasn´t lost on bit yet!
The band must shop where Jay Leno shops!
bom muito bom eu amo jazz assim bem tocado e com a alma.
Menza Cadenza
Menza!!! Always fun! And the articulation comes from Buffalo. Or Johnnie Griffin-Chicago players.
Cherokee !!
Wow. That was killer!
I agree with Doctersax. Hawk Eyes had far from the same technique, tone and finesse as Menza. And menza is all music. My new hero, he is.
Spar Kifua I saw him as a teen with Stan Kenton when I was a teen.
OMG!!!

Top....
5:18 ftw!
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. One isn't necessarily better than the other, but I know what _I_ like. :)

Menza’s is the finest by a long stretch.
Another case of form over function. Most audience members prefer melody to technique, and the audience pays for the performance they are hearing.
Hey, milandro. It's Bracosaur from Sax on the Web forum, just checking in to say hi and agree with your comment.

Do enlighten us on how you're so much better than what you hear in this video
milandro I agree that this not a lyrical performance but it’s absolutely astonishing.
