  • This quintessential classic Holi song finds its roots in the folk culture of Uttar Pradesh. The refrain "Holi aayi re Kanhai" is a traditional composition sung during the Phagun month. Sakeel Badayuni carried forward the lyrics as per the demand of the film's story (another line at the end of the song "Lakdi jal koyla bhayi" has been taken from one of the couplets of Kabir Das). It's interesting to note that the tune of this song is attributed to Kajari, another form of folk music having its origin from Uttar Pradesh sung during monsoon, while the lyrics speak of Hori. A beautiful confluence.
