This is quite possibly Michael's greatest vocal performance. Just gives me goosebumps. Elegantly Wasted is a brilliant album that doesn't get enough praise.
I could not agree more with your statement. If I could personally bring this album back for everyone to reevaluate and reappreciate, I would. I truly believe that he was tortured in his final years. And like many people who become suicidal, there is a bipolar effect. The side that wants to live, and the side that wants to die. Beside that wants to die wins the battle permanently sometimes. Rest his soul and I will always keep him alive in my heart, mind ,and soul.

This performance is a testament to the talent that was Michael Hutchence. A unique singer, he did more than simply sing a song - he felt the words and gave his all...and this performance at the '96 ARIAs will surely keep viewers transfixed by his spell for years to come. Love you & miss you, Hutch. Peace.

he had just a razing row with Geldoff about not being allowed to have the kids for Xmas, yet he came on stage and delivered. Australia in the mid 90s didn't realise how lucky we were to have him until it was too late

"Right up until we walked on stage, Michael was in tears," Tim Farriss recalled years later. "Paula had just left the country quickly, something to do with custody of the children.
"All of a sudden, it was showtime. Michael had to wipe his eyes and go out there and sing Searching.
"It is one of the greatest performances we ever gave on television," he continued. "It was totally live, and Michael sang with such emotion: 'I am searching, I am not alone.' It's still too heavy for me to look at, even today."

I'm still left speechless....I've watched this performance dozens of times...I really just don't know what to say. I'm missing him more these days than when we lost him...I'm in my forties now. It's so insane to think I was still in my teens when they performed this. I cry every time I watch this..EVERY TIME. It will be clear tomorrow. But will it start again?
Elegantly Wasted is their best album IMO.I loved this track from first listen but this performance blew my mind

He was in a dark place when they performed this song. Lots of people were putting him down at that time and expected him to flop but he turned that pain around n showed them who was boss with this stella performance!!

@@SXI96 everyone, he was dating Paula Yates who was married to Bob Geldof and left Geldof to be with the hutch. Geldof is a very respected guy in England
I remember Oasis used to constantly put him down… though they did that to everyone, but it did seem around EW era that Liam really dug into MH.

One of my favorite performers he was such a poet and sensitive soul. I truly miss him forgot to mention a great songwriter and sexy too
This song is one of the best, and this performance was great. Their last album has this song on it, Elegantly Wasted. Was a very underrated album, but all these years later when you listen to it, it was probably one of their best considering what the band was going through during that period.

I'm ashamed to say that I've only just discovered the album, Elegantly Wasted. How I missed it, I will never know! One of the best rock albums I've ever heard! What a very sad ending to an amazing talent and you can 'feel' what MH was going through in this song and performance. An amazing singer with an amazing band.
@@EML462 I don't know how I missed this band & Michael Hutchence myself? I saw every big band of the late 1970s, 1980s & 1990s. I would love to had seen M.H. I can remember seeing them on MTV once. But I stopped watching MTV completely after high school.
10 months after this performance the next year he was dead. He probably felt his transition coming and sung this song searching.He was such a beautiful soul.....
If he didn't meet or have a relationship with Paula Yates & falling into her traps with telling journalists where she was and whom she was seeing. Journalists - magazines had a field day with . Uk hated him with Princess Diana one week and then Michael H the other . Paula Yates loved to be married or in a relationship with a famous rock singer. She even wore her wedding dress that she dyed black on Michael hutchence funeral. Paulas husband Bob Geldof wasn't even filling up Cafe. Michael H hated the paparazzi. I guess it all went down hill when he had his accident in Denmark & blamed his girlfriend - Helena.? I read the book

This is my favorite INXS song. The way he sings this has such depth and soul. I believe Michael had so much more beautiful music in him and may have even branched out on his own at some point. He was such a gift! There is no one like him, not even close! I will listen to his beautiful voice until the day I die. Yup, even if I live to be in my 80's...57 now.

@@byelosergore6436 tenía una adicción,y es triste saber lo que estaba sufriendo por su lesión cerebral,las drogas fueron una insana y hasta egoísta elección en su vida y más sabiendo que tenía una hija por la cual preocuparse, él la amaba,pero las cosas se salieron de lugar,y creo que no estaba preparado para ser padre,más allá de que disfrutaba serlo y ahí por más que duela decirlo Bob Geldof se lleva todo el crédito como padre de TigerLily,esos dos brillantes hombres enfrentados terminaron unidos por el corazón de una inocente niña que tiene dos padres,el que le dió la vida y el otro que le dió su vida y su crianza, ojalá Michael nunca hubiera partido tan joven, ojalá se hubiera dado cuenta de que su adicción era gravísima y hubiera pedido ayuda a tiempo,fue una gran pérdida

I vaguely remember this song in 96 but the doc Mystify made me come here. I grew up listening to INXS in the 80s before falling in love with hiphop and rnb in late 80s. Sad when he passed. RIP Michael Hutchence-thank for the blessing us with your talent .
