@ The argument is that fighters sign long contracts because the UFC very strongly wants/forces fighters to sign long contracts if they want a contract at all so to act as though those contracts shouldn’t be renegotiated when circumstances change is a bunch of bullshit. That’s what the UFC wants the public to believe so they put pressure on fighters and back the UFC. Chael has his own opinions and will say certain negative comments about the ufc but when it comes to contracts or fighter pay Chael always has the exact same viewpoint which basically amounts to him dropping to his knees and and gladly blowing Dana and then telling us he’s never tasted anything so delicious. I don't think I agree with that. It's the same thing with movie stars. I don't think all movie stars sign contracts for residuals, but you could make the same argument of "without this star there would be no movie". That's why they negotiate those things up front. So I don't think the UFC is obligated to pay fighters percentages of the PPV. They could just get paid their show and win money/bonuses.
One thing I do hope is that Tom doesn't sell himself short here. For all the hype, Jon Jones has been incredibly inactive and I don't think he's anywhere close to the superstar draw that he's being billed. @ The argument is that fighters sign long contracts because the UFC very strongly wants/forces fighters to sign long contracts if they want a contract at all so to act as though those contracts shouldn’t be renegotiated when circumstances change is a bunch of bullshit. That’s what the UFC wants the public to believe so they put pressure on fighters and back the UFC. Chael has his own opinions and will say certain negative comments about the ufc but when it comes to contracts or fighter pay Chael always has the exact same viewpoint which basically amounts to him dropping to his knees and and gladly blowing Dana and then telling us he’s never tasted anything so delicious. He just changes the words a little but that’s what is actually going on. Chael is the #1 ball licker of Dana and the UFC he’s just more clever than most and does a pretty decent job at not being obvious.
@ also he says barely any of the roster earns their keep because they are interchangeable. That’s because the UFC designed the company to work like that. The UFC is great when it wants to be but they still put out shit Apex fight nights more often than anyone wants. They earn the espn money regardless of how the show turns out. Basically everything he says is either out of date or just made up nonsense. Of course Chael knows that, he is happy to say anything to keep the show moving forward.
If it's gonna be Jon Jones' last fight then why not? They could do an agreement that it'll be his last fight, otherwise, if he rights after fighting Tom, he won't be getting the same money...

I don't think I agree with that. It's the same thing with movie stars. I don't think all movie stars sign contracts for residuals, but you could make the same argument of "without this star there would be no movie". That's why they negotiate those things up front. So I don't think the UFC is obligated to pay fighters percentages of the PPV. They could just get paid their show and win money/bonuses.
One thing I do hope is that Tom doesn't sell himself short here. For all the hype, Jon Jones has been incredibly inactive and I don't think he's anywhere close to the superstar draw that he's being billed. He was all but forgotten about and most people had moved on. Now suddenly he's the only show in town? OK, if that's how Dana wants to market him, fine, but there's a simple fact that the only really big money fight for Jones is Aspinall. The HW pool is shallow, and it's the only unification fight possible.
Tom needs to understand that the same is true for him: the only really big money fight for him is Jones. Yes, he'll get a decent payday fighting Gane or Sergey again, but not f-you money. I really hope he understands this and doesn't just feel happy to get the opportunity.

As much as I like Tom, I don't think his star will shine much brighter if he beats Jones. The HW division isn't very exciting and Tom's a nice guy but he's not a big personality. He's not going to be doing media like Bisping or Cormier, and he's no Connor or Khabib, so he needs to make his money in the octagon. Win or lose, this will be the biggest fight he will ever have, unless he wins and Francis comes back to the UFC.
