A Radical Approach To Gratitude & Positive Affirmations

  • Gratitude and positive affirmations can feel really nice, but they can also be unkind and disrespectful towards ourselves by suppressing parts within us that don't agree with the affirmation.
If you have doing gratitude or positive affirmations, I invite you to be really honest with yourself. Is there any part within you that doesn't agree with the gratitude or positive affirmations? Is there any belief or feeling inside of you that resists or doesn't align with the gratitude or positive affirmations? It can be much more valuable in the long-run to be honest with ourselves rather than deny whatever inside us doesn't agree with the gratitude or positive affirmations.

One of my mentors taught me how to do affirmations when I do not believe by tweaking it a little bit. Instead of saying, "I am healthy" when I feel unhealthy, I say, "I am getting healthier and healthier". It gives me hope that I could be getting better and there is less resistance here. Making it an ongoing present continuous instead of a definite avoids making your subconscious say, "Hey! You're lying!". Works for me. ☺

Your videos are always brilliant, so on point, so full of wisdom and compassion above all. I feel like you get me and you don't judge me. I explore my feelings at the same time you are talking in the video and I feel like it's ok to experience whatever I'm experiencing at that time, like you wouldn't judge me if you were right beside me with me through it. You always explain something I need to learn, and you do it always on time. I feel like when I'm ready to dig a little deeper, and heal a little more, you come through with a new video that hits the nail on the head. I feel like you light up a path of true healing. Thank you so so so much for your content, you are really generous sharing your "methods" and deep discoveries with us, and for free. Really, thank you.

I tend to feel this intuitively when I do affirmations and have found just to hold that part that doesn’t feel or believe it and give it compassion and acceptance is way more helpful then forcing it. Love your work as usual Noah!

Thank you for this video. Here is my experience:
I always hated affirmations because I also felt like lying to myself, since I did NOT believe them, which ultimately make them useless and cause more damage than good. Everybody was telling me to start feeling better NOW and I even felt worse because of all the conflicts that were going on in my head.
Whenever I feel bad now, I allow my negative self perception and feelings which stem from negative beliefs and tell myself that I am okay exactly the way I am. I allow the negativity, I say "yes" to it instead of thinking there’s something wrong with me.
The interesting part is, my negative feelings started to shift automatically once I acknowledged their existence rather than denying or getting around it by overcompensating through affirming positive things. I recognised that I never needed to affirm myself that I am worthy, wealthy, good enough, handsome or anything like that because it is already me. I do not need to look outside to get it because it is already ME. The problem is the conflict that I had with the stuff that contradicted it because I was never taught on how to deal with it. Instead of rejecting and judging them or thinking I am supposed to do something about the fact that I believe XYZ, I now own the fact that it exists so I am not attached to the problem getting solved to move on with my life which ultimately releases the conflict on its own and I naturally start to believe the positive things that I was trying so hard to believe in the first place.
I hope I could properly express myself since English is not my native language :)
    Take care

Honest assessment of positive affirmations instead of "blowing smoke" and "faking it." This is a missing piece of the puzzle for me. I have always had this uneasiness and disbelief because nothing is perfect in my life and it probably never will be. I am in the early winter of my discontent, and I am trying to enjoy the time I have left instead of ruminating and am trying to learn how to appreciate the life that I can make and that fate serves.

There will always be some small parts inside of you that will resist a statement. This is a normal process of exploration, built in to the self. It's not a big deal, just give that part love and relax into your true being as a complete whole.

Completely agree with you on this Noah! I love affirmations and they changed my life for the better. Sometimes I dont feel my positive affirmations and doubt some them. I’m aware where the resistance was coming from and I knew that was where I need to dive deep in and heal it. I introduced positive affirmations to a family member. They said, they hear but don’t feel good about and don’t believe that it’s true for them. I will continuously use positive affirmations and gratitude event if I don’t believe it completely sometimes. Someday I would believe it and make it all my truth. It is guide to heal and to affirm

@@NoahElkrief the reason being that the author, Thaddeus Golas, says, basically, that in every situation we are either expanding or contracting. That everything in the universe does this and we are made up of the same thing as everything else that exists. That the only thing you ever need to do is love whatever it is that you are experiencing right now (e.g., if you hate yourself, love that.) When you accept yourself fully wherever you are with no resistance, then you can move up. Etc. a lot of what I hear you say reminds me of it. Confirms that it’s true, coming from difference sources. Thanks.

Can someone please help me with this question it might not even make any sense. These past couple of months I keep having a repetitive thought or image in my head about a feeling in my body but I don't know if I'm imaging the feeling or not. It's kind of like a black shape in my stomach. I don't know why but it comes into my mind all day every day and I know it sounds stupid but it's true. It's kind of like an image where I'm looking at my stomach and it is a black round shape of anxiety. It's making me feel dissociated from my body. It's making me want to escape in my mind. Can someone explain if this sounds like ocd or not? Has anyone had any similar experiences?

So since you believe investing in the stock market is immoral, do you have any investments at all? Gold or housing or anything? Or do you just keep your savings in cash? If your answer is cash, doesn't inflation creep in and your money loses its value sitting in the bank.? "Cash is trash" as Ray Dalio says. Do you invest in anything to counteract that?
