In a way almost “postmodern”, but at the same time Haydnesquely playful, Brahmsianly melancholical - and, considering what the composer was living through at that moment, Schubertianly tragical. The abrupt shifts, the sudden silences, the returns, the false starts, the epiphanical conclusions... How great is this music, and how terribly isolated - and wise, and innocent.. You brought your enormous insight in this masterpiece to your playing and you delighted me and you taught me new meanings for many passages.
That you for posting this and also for explaining the sonata to the audience, by playing it, how you played it. Easily the best performance I know. And when you play it, there is no miracle about it. It is just a little different from the others, probably needed a different approach only. Your tempi work so well, also how there is more weight almost everywhere. I really enjoyed this. I'm glad I stumbled across this wonderful performance. I'm learning this sonata and it's an incredible construction. I wish it was played more often.
